GE vs SJ - Hex 27-AJ Invasion Live!

Hello all!

Another day, another invasion for the Silver Jedi to face.

We must be popular to warrant such attention, so see it as a good thing. We will give just as good as we get.

Join the Hex Invasion here - http://starwarsrp.net/topic/115874-its-time-for-the-jedi-to-end-imperial-invasion-of-silver-jedi-hex-27-aj/

This seems to be a more fleet-based invasion which should be interesting and refreshing from the ground based FO one. This will be set IC AFTER Ossus, so take part if you wish, have fun and take some risks out there in deep space to repel the Empire once and for all.

Focus on good story-telling, emotive drama and exciting development! Any issues, come straight to me.

Good luck Silvers, and may the Force be with us!

So...question here.

Rules state that an invasion has to have a minimum of 100 posts for victory to be declared. They also state that a major faction can only start one invasion at a time, cannot start another until the original has been completed and judged. GE is currently invading Kessel and that thread is not near 100 posts, active posts were made to the thread as recently as yesterday and today, and I see no IC indication of a pullback from Imperial forces (which would be abandoning/forfeiting the attempt). Something change that I missed while away?

I will take it to the OOC board....thank you!

EDIT:

Are you happy for me to bring it up and clarify - naming no names of course?

Kessel is a skirmish, not an invasion. Same deal as the TSO attack on Midvinter or the Mando raid on Ossus.

A skirmish can be launched any time and any place. It also does not affect planet ownership (which is why many of them don't go anywhere and eventually die off or get ignored from the get-go, but I digress).

[member="Moira Skaldi"] Thank you.

If this is a Skirmish, then it does not affect the invasion [member="Audren Sykes"]

ALL:

As we failed to hit the 5 member minimum post count under 72hrs for this invasion, we have since lost to the GE by default.

This has been noted that we were stretched with the FO invasion, that the GE was fleet based, and we had Event prep.

However we have the member base to more than hit over 5, but we didn't, and we may have repercussions due to this.

NOW - it's not a blame game and I will not force you to be involved in invasions or doms etc, but we need to ask ourselves WHY we didn't his this quote that resulted in a loss.

Please discuss as you wish - all welcome.

:)

Even if I had time to RP this one, I had no avenue to enter it due to being fleeting based.

This alone takes out a large percentage of writers from the start.

Not sure why there was not an opportunity to allow those that could join the means to be able to do so. I don't know if this was agreed upon by both sides of the admin teams.

One doesn't have to fleet. Anyone could have joined this invasion and participated. For example: Things to do in a fleeting invasion:

1) roleplay a boarding party
2) roleplay starfighters and small support craft
3) roleplay a counter boarding party
4) roleplay jedi members icly planning how to deal with said sudden fleet
5) roleplay interacting with other sjo outposts to call for reinforcements or gather Intel on said fleet
6) roleplay discussing which allies are nearby to help defend icly
7) roleplay the deployment of scout drones, scouting teams
8) interact as people inside the ships becoming aware of what is happening and react accordingly.
9) attempt to start diplomatic talks.

There are many things one can do. It doesn't have to be fleet vs fleet battle.

It cannot be overstated that the invasion was called at a really bad time, when we were already going into an invasion with the First Order, and had the board event go up. I wouldn't have had an issue with the invasion if the GE staff had been more cooperative about rescheduling the start date so that we would be able to put up some real opposition. Seeing the way this all played out on and off-site, it's apparent to me that the GE cared more about claiming that W and hex (as neutral) on the map rather than actually trying to collaborate with us in writing entertaining stories.

Anyway, the GE and other DS factions are going to keep ganging up on us, so if we're going to try to stay major then we need to start going on the attack and put pressure on them for a change. As an attacker, you get a a lot of leeway in controlling the flow of events, so that could encourage more participation on our end. We also need to work harder at cultivating alliances so that we aren't isolated like we are right now. With some fresh faces leading the SJO, the staff can do that now. CIS, FWC, Metal Lords, etc. Neutral factions with more favorable relations with the GE like Commenor or the Iron Empire could be used to lean against them using soft power.

On the OOC front, it would also be a good idea for the SJO staff to begin a dialogue with their counterparts to maybe try planning out some arcs to reduce the salt levels. Without question, any kind of PvP event always goes better with some coordination. I had a good thing going with the Sith Assassins for a while, actually giving them the idea to attack Ossus in a planned skirmish as part of an ongoing storyline.

I'm dropping out of the board event so I can spend more time on personal development, so I'll get back to the GA diplomacy thread this week.

Basically what Arisa said.

It is possible most people thought roleplay would be prioritized over some kind of competition and therefore this would be solved in roleplay and we wouldn't be disqualified for not being there actively yet. Although I joined the invasion, I too was one of those people believing this, I do express my disagreement with the rules.

The darkness lays ever near the light.
I didn't join simply due to the salt beforehand - and what I've seen from Graf's writer on many occasions. I have many strong opinions about him that I simply can not post on Chaos - you guys know that - so I'll leave it at that.

I also agree with Arisa. It was called at - quite frankly - a stupid time as they knew this would happen. Graf knew beforehand that we wouldn't have enough people join in order to actually progress in the invasion, he did it on purpose for OOC reasons.

I'm going to stop talking before I start ranting and get penalised for it.

All points taken, thank you.

I know there is a clear line between those who excel in writing fleet threads and those who do ground threads.

You rarely see writers do fleet work and ground work to the same level; some simply find it un-engaging, un-interesting or too challenging compared to their skill-set, or simple desire, to do ground battle/planning.

I think it opens up chances for us to focus on helping others "learn" how else to tackle fleet threads and maybe do a Rogue Squadron style thread; to take some of the dread away and enjoy getting in a fighter and blasting away NPC craft or escorting others etc.

Just an idea, but I hope to work on it.

Thank you all again. :)

  • I agree that the invasion was called at a bad time.
  • However, if bad timing is enough to kill our activity in an invasion then instead of pinning all the blame on the GE we should be worrying about how we're making ourselves exceptionally easy prey.
  • I don't think launching an invasion of our own is a good idea. So long as we're a Jedi faction, it makes no IC sense. Furthermore, even if we found a way to spin it, we should focus on trying to successfully defend an invasion before we set our sights on attacking planets.
  • Making more alliances is a good idea.
  • Alternatively, if we want to avoid the dramafest of invasions/major factions altogether, we can always go minor.

[member="Lina Renning"] Jedi factions can go on the attack just fine, but only in response to invasions. Also, any IC rationale for this should include retaliation for Charros IV.

Given what [member="Cira"] said, I have a set of questions:
  • What makes writers so reluctant to go duel enemy PCs stationed in spaceborne facilities, but would readily duel the same PCs if they were stationed planetside?
  • Why is it that writers still think that spaceborne threads have to involve fleeting or, to a lesser extent, dogfighting?
