COMBAT INFORMATION
- Availability: Rare.
- Deployment: Limited.
- Cybernetic implants: Like many members of the Iron Fist Consortium, the Gespenster have been cybernetically enhanced. However, their implants do not give them superhuman strength or durability. Instead their augmentations significantly enhance their speed, senses and reaction time. A Gespenst can move quicker and quieter, see and hear further than a normal human. In addition to that, they posseses night and infrared vision. Brain implants improve coordination and allow them to communicate nonverbally.
- Very stealthy due to training and equipment (personal cloaking devices, Reflec coated armour).
- Proficient scouts, infiltrators, saboteurs and snipers.
- Their implants are hardened and they wear reinforced duraplast armour, which is resistant to ion and EMP attacks. However, powerful blasts can still damage or disable their implants. Damage to brain implants is particularly dangerous.
- Lightly infantry. They're lightly armed and admoured. No heavy weapons. They are ill-suited for prolonged fights and out of their element fighting heavily armed troops, storming fortifications and so on. On the battlefield they're a support force.
- The coverage provided by the personal cloaking devices they often use is not all-encompassing. It produces an oscillation effect and sonar detection and magnetic detection is still possible. It also does not nullify sound. Taozin nodules blur Force senses, but Force-users who are used to the cloudy, fuzzy feeling generated by them will have an easier time detecting the wearer.
- Small units. Due to the nature of their work (and the cost of some of their gear) the Gespenster have low numbers and are only deployed in small teams. This can become a problem, as they're easily outnumbered if detected.
- Armour can resist a glancing blow from a lightsabre, but a full-on impact will cut through it like paper.
Description:
As Enyo Typhos' power base expanded, she saw the need to diversify her forces a bit. The Iron Fist Consortium is a criminal mafia, but she runs it like a paramilitary organisation, which is a reflection of the fact that Archangel conditioned her to be a soldier.
The Gespenster are a force of infiltrators, scouts and assassins. They perform poorly during pitched combat, but excel at infiltration, recon and subversion. Thus they fill an important niche in her small private army. In that regard, she based them a bit on the Imperial scout troopers, along with similar units that exist in various galactic militaries and paramilitary organisations. The composition of the unit varies a bit. Many of the 'spectres' are veterans of the various 'Great Galactic Wars' that have broken out since the end of the Dark Age, especially of the One Sith-Republic conflict. But several belong to a younger generation that was brought up and bloodied in the slums of Lower Coruscant and Vorzyd.
During her time on the smog-infested world of Vorzyd, Enyo brought a number of street gangs under her control, utilising a network of street urchins to gather intelligence on her rivals in the local mafias. Those who performed well accompanied her when she left the planet. They were inducted into the Iron Fist Consortium, endowed with cybernetic implants and put through a gruelling training programme. Not all survived the experience. Operating on a carrot and stick principle, she punished disobedience and incompetence, rewarded merit, bravery and initiative. In addition to being proficient in long-range precision shooting, demolitions and recon, they also received training in knife fighting and martial arts.
Thus the Gespenster were born. Deployed in small squads, they can act alone, or perform support and recon duties for the more conventional forces of the Iron Fist Consortium. They are supervised by Johanna Tyrone and Alexia Zarides. The first is a former Cor-Sec agent and a lieutenant of Enyo's, the second one of the Cyborg's clone 'siblings'.
