Enyo Typhos
Control
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To give Enyo a personal war beast.
- Image Credit: Here. 'Cyborg Rancor' concept art from 'The Old Republic'. Found on kotaku.com.
- Role: War beast for Enyo.
- Links: N/A
- Age: Adult
- Species: Cybernetically augmented Rancor.
- Height: 6m
- Length: 3.5m
- Weight: 2000kg. Weighs a bit more than the average rancor of this size due to the metal.
- Appearance: Very big and heavy, with brown skin covered in scales. Has a mouth full of sharp teeth and large arms that sport claws. Grash would look like a typical Rancor, were it not for the cybernetics Enyo saw fit to endow him with. His skeletal right arm is made out of durasteel and has very sharp claws. In addition, his shoulders, spine and part of his left leg have been replaced. The creature is a hulking giant of mass, raw muscle and metal. His body is covered in scars that were inflicted upon him during various fights. His teeth and claws are made out of durasteel. He also possesses robotic eyes. The portion of the skull the brain implant is located in has been reinforced with plating.
- Name: Grash der Schlächter
- Loyalties: Enyo Typhos
- Huge suit of heavy durasteel battle armour scaled to fit his considerable bulk. Putting it on takes a while, so it cannot be done in the middle of a fight.
- A very big war glaive made out of durasteel.
Personality: In a number of ways, Grash is a reflection of his master. To the outsider, a Rancor would appear to be a dangerous, brainless monster. While they are undoubtedly dangerous, they have shown themselves to be far from brainless. Grash is a ferocious, territorial predator and aggressive towards strangers - or those he considers prey. But he's obedient towards his mistress, Enyo. He will warn her with loud growls or pretend aggression if he is being pressed into an uncomfortable situation. He feels something like pride and has an ego that can be bruised by a loss in a fight. This can also make him rather vengeful. He's been conditioned to feel something like loyalty towards Enyo's siblings, but while he will protect them if they're in danger, he will only take orders from her.
Training: Initially, Grash was trained to be a simple beast at the beck and call of his master, Voron the Hutt. During this time, he served his wurm master by crushing opponents in a fighting pit or devouring individuals who had antagonised or offended the Hutt in some manner. Thus he was a simple beast and often proved difficult to control, as he went through a few trainers before learning to obey. After Enyo 'liberated' the creature from the somewhat sadistic Voron, she retrained him as a war beast. It took a bit to get the aggressive creature to obey her, but brain modifications helped. Grash has been conditioned to smash his mistress' enemies and obey her orders. These are often transmitted via his implant, but he's also able to follow verbal commands. Enyo treats him well and makes sure he's got plenty of meat to sink his teeth in.
Combat Function:
- Height and weight: Same as any Rancor, Grash is heavy, big and the sheer size can be intimidating. The visible cybernetics help. Moreover, his size allows him to use his body as a weapon, for instance by ramming or crushing opponents.
- Extremely tough carapace. Skin of a rancor is tough enough to deflect blaster bolts. Most of the war beast's skin is incredibly hard and virtually impenetrable for small arms. Grash's toughness and durability have been enhanced by extensive cybernetic modifications. This makes him extremely durable in combat. However, the creature is obviously still vulnerable to heavy weapons, turbolasers, artillery, explosions, personal mass drivers, and so on.
- Extremely strong and ferocious. Durasteel claws and fangs can rip off limbs and inflict damage damage even through armour (heavy armour, power armour and the like fares better though).
- Predatory cunning. As shown by the creatures the Witches of Dathomir tamed, Rancors have the potential to be quite smart for beasts. Grash's intelligence is enhanced by a brain implant. He is vicious, but able to follow commands from Enyo, make use of melee weapons appropriate for his size and think tactically in combat. He also understands that it's best to retreat when you're outmatched.
- Size. His huge size and weight are strengths, but also weaknesses. It makes him slower than smaller species and difficult to hide, especially in an open field. It also means he's no good at sneaking. If he's moving towards you, you will hear him coming. This makes the creature an obvious target.
- While the carapace is tough, weak spots exist. Examples would be the mouth and eyes. Of course, trying to exploit those in close quarters is incredibly dangerous, though sniping the war beast from a distance is viable. Sufficient damage to the legs can also unbalance him.
- The same augmentations that improve his strength and intelligence also make Grash vulnerable to standard machine weaknesses such as ion, electricity and EMP. While Damage to the brain implant is particularly dangerous. For one, it could cause the beast to go on a wild rampage, attacking friend and foe alike.
- For the same reason, he is vulnerable to mechu-deru and magnetism.
- Sonic weapons are a vulnerability for him. Extreme high-pitched noises have an averse mental effect on him. They can disorientate, confuse or even drive him mad.
- Needs to reach melee range to be any use in combat. An opponent can use this to their advantage...if they can stay out of range and avoid being smashed, struck by claws or the rancor's huge glaive.
Grash's original owner was a crime lord called Voron the Hutt. The mafia boss procurred the Dathomiri rancor from Trandoshan big game hunters when Grash was still very young. The price was rather steep, as the rancor had been rather difficult to capture, for his herd mother had reacted in a highly aggressive manner.
Indeed, Grash turned out to be rather unruly and went through a few trainers before he was broken in, though he did not respect his owner much. Voron was a cruel, venal and somewhat sadistic Hutt. Disinterested in using his pet as a war beast, he found other uses for it. An avid gambler, he pit the creature against other Rancors or entirely different beasts in a huge fighting pit. Such fights were always great hits. Thanks to his pet, Voron made a lot of money, which helped him sustain his opulent life style.
Sometimes he unleashed Grash on disobedient slaves, treacherous underlings or sanctimonious do-gooders who'd made the mistake of waltzing into his palace and making presumptuous demands. One example would be a Jedi knight who demanded that Grash abandon the heinous practice of slavery or face the consequences. Unfortunately for the Jedi, Voron was fond of the classics and had installed a trap door. Thus the valiant knight ended up being eaten by Grash, as he was no Luke Skywalker. Yummy. At least he put up a valiant fight.
Grash would have probably continued serving his master, if Enyo Typhos, leader of the Iron Fist Consortium, had not popped up. The Terminatrix witnessed his prowess in the fighting pit during a grand party his master threw to impress his rivals and allies with his might and wealth. The celebrations were characterised by wanton debauchery. Being a Machine, Enyo remained abstinent. Instead she plotted murder. Things soon turned violent as her minions infiltrated the gathering. Not remaining idle, the Hutt's minions attacked. Enyo was seemingly killed in the melee...only for it to be revealed that it had been a droid disguised as her.
In truth, the Cyborg had used the commotion to sabotage security measures at the fighting pits, allowing wild beasts to escape. As a consequence, Grash went on a bloody rampage. It helped that his trainers had a habit of pumping him full with adrenaline and drugs to put him in a state of berserk rage prior to a fight. The havoc he wreaked was quite lovely, at least unless you happened to be in his way.
In a bloody rage, he smashed Iron Fist and Hutt minions alike. However, he also suffered serious injuries. Inevitably, he came across his master. Enyo had overcome Voron's security, but had been damaged by EMP and ion weapons. The Hutt commanded his pet to destroy her. Instead the Rancor proceeded to eat him. He then attacked Enyo and even managed to rip one of her arms off. However, the maimed Terminatrix used her superior agility to her advantage. His injuries got the better of him after she gassed the room and shot him in the leg with the mini ion disruptor in her palm. The Hutt's palace was looted and Enyo decided to claim the Rancor as her personal trophy. The creature was delivered to her pet mad scientist, Doctor Zakarias Vont, with orders to heal and augment the creature.
Over the next couple months, Grash was reforged. Physical augmentation was paired with mental conditioning. The creature was very willful and defiant, but eventually came to obey and respect his new mistress. The Terminatrix applied a strategy of carrot and stick, taking a personal interest in the beast. Enyo did not want a pet she could show off. While the beast would occasionally serve as a prize fighter, his primary duties would be those of a war beast. This was reflected in its training and cybernetic augmentations. Grash experienced his trial by fire when he helped Enyo and her associates demolish an Archangel outpost, using his formidable strength to smash war droids.
