Greetings, new writer here.

Hello all!

It feels good to see a well put together community for role-playing within the Star Wars universe, it's only unfortunate that my only experience with role-playing is through tabletop games and virtual universes on various platforms (mostly minecraft admitidly), but that wont stop me from taking a good shot at this as I consider myself an avid lover of the genre (though most likely not as well informed as many of you surely are). However due to my lack of experience with forum role-play, as well as due to the experience I have with other forms of role-play, I have some questions to ask just to be sure that my first step is safely planted upon the ground and not upon another's toes.

  1. Are characters who have not had training prior, allowed to have a small grasp on their force abilities before being taken by a teacher?
  2. As long as it makes sense for my character to have, is there a limit to what equipment they can have?
  3. In terms of residential living and such, is my character able to simply live upon any planet?
  4. How does one have their character join a faction, and get involved in a group?
  5. Any advise on how to jump into the fun that is here?
I may have more questions after this, however for now I am content, and I appreciate any help given.

Thanks for reading.

[member="Morgan"] hi! Welcome to Chaos.

Answers:

1: not quite sure.

2: None whatsoever. As long as it's logical.

3: any planet you choose.

4: if you go to a faction, there'll be a button that says "join faction" hit that.

5: just roll with it. I'm kind of new here myself, but I found it easiest to watch people and see how they did it. If you watch them, you should have an easier time here.

Welcome to SW Chaos! Buckle up, because it'll be one helluva ride.

1. Yes. Force Sensitives can kinda discover their powers I guess and train themselves. I've seen biographies in Character Creation topic where people have put their characters trained themselves. But only to get a small reasonable grasp of the Force. Usually though, they run into a Jedi Master who takes them in, their parents/friends are Jedi, ect. It works the same for Sith too if you want to go down the Dark Path. For my rogue Jedi, [member="Crix Halcorr"] , I had him born and raised at the Jedi Academy so that's that.

2. Nope. For the ships, I suggest you look through the Starship Creation topic if you want some cooler looking ships rather than the ones on Wiki. But those have limitations on which people can use them. Some are open to the public market though and anyone can buy them. That's what I did at least.

3. [member="Jai Katan"] for that answered for you. Any planet you choose. I also suggest that you look through the Planet/Species Creation topic to see what interesting planets your chars can come from. This smuggling fella right here @Khrelan Arke is a half Manahaim, a species someone created here. He's got cool hearing powers cause of his heritage.

4. You can go to a faction (click faction directory) and click join faction through there or have your character start out with no affiliations. I find it more fun that way since your character can get in trouble and be forced kinda to join a faction at some point. That's my opinion at least. Also, to find groups simply post in the Looking for Group topic.

5. Basically number 4. Plus, you can respond to other people's threads in Looking for Groups. That's how my first RP started: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/103624-things-uncommon-in-mind/ if you want an example. Or, in the Open Roleplay topic, you can always join the ones that are public or the ones that specifically say open or join at will or the like. Be brave!

It's ok if you don't have much experience. We all started out without experience at some point. I've had around three years maybe? Four at most? But I am very much a noob here. Only joined at most a week ago? I'm also apart of another multi-fandom forum on another site if you want to check that out.
I don't know as much about SW as the rest of the guys or gals here either. Still learning, always learning. I recommend you check out the timeline too. We're on the Omega Wars I think? 49 ABY. You'll find the timeline under Resources. Check out the map too. That way, you'll know which planets are under which faction.

If you'd like, once you create your character, maybe we could set something up?

Again, welcome to Chaos!!

Heya bud. Welcome to Chaos, enjoy your stay...
To answer you questions:
1 - Yes, they can be aware of their force aptitude and have some natural ability before taking on a master. This doesn't mean you're Vader from day one.

2 - As you suggest, there isn't a defined limit, as long as you use common sense. Obviously some merc isn't just gonna go on his merry way with a fleet of Star Destroyers or Death lasers from the get-go.

3 - If your character can breath and sustain their life on that planet, go for it. You can just OOC say that you're residing on a certain planet or just put it in their bio. The other option is to create a living quarters in the Location Creation Codex, but either all is fine, the Codex is more so to refine your characters story.

4 - Factions have their own separate pages and you are able to join any open faction. You may join as many minor factions as you wish, however you are limited to one major faction (you can read all about it in the Rules).

5 - Usually you just advertise in the Looking For Groups page and specify what it is that you're looking for. Alternatively, you can PM somebody and express your interest in RP'ing with them.

Hope this helps, enjoy the board! [member="Morgan"]

Welcome to the boards. Explore, browse, ask questions, and just verily enjoy your stay. Personal initiative is everything. Cheers. :D

Thank you everyone, it means a lot.

[member="Jay Scott Clark"], if I may ask, am I allowed to submit a 'Codex' submission before I start role-playing? I ask because I would love to be able to set the aesthetics, and possibly define a new species to suit

Yes.

Nope. Unless you're a force sensitive, anyway, then you can't start with the ability to utilize a lightsaber.

Yes.

Simply navigate to the faction page (via the Factions button up top) and click Join Faction on the corner of the page.

  1. Start a Looking for Group thread here or respond to one.
  2. Join an on-going Public thread here (probably a good idea to ask if it doesn't say Open in the title and such)
  3. Join a dominion thread ran by a major faction that you decide to join, or faction thread.

Yes, you can submit things to the factory and codex without starting your first character (unless you are requested to do development for your submission).

WELCOME TO CHAOS!!!

I'm glad all your questions were answered for the most part by the community. Everyone here is pretty down to help people navigate and get started. What sort of table tops do you play? I recently just got into board games and table tops because of my boyfriend. I really like board games like Eldritch Horror and Dead Winter :3

[member="Spencer Varanin"] you my dear have just did a very dangerous thing, mention Eldritch Horror. I own every single expansion of both Eldritch and Arkham horror, the cthulhu mythos games are my favourite and I am currently saving up money to pay off a downpayment for a custom built board game table for my garage, which I plan on using to open up a local place for people to play games because there are a few people who are avid gamers but the 'local' hobby store is a two hour drive (which we all go to on a weekly basis haha).

Welcome to Chaos, [member="Morgan"]! Hope you find what you're looking for with us.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! I'd be happy to help, Codex or otherwise :)

Enjoy your stay!
