SETTING INFORMATION
Structure Name: The Grey Monastery

Accessibility: Approached by a causeway to the mainland or accessible by boat or air, the Grey Monastery stands as a testament to the diverse nature of Force-users and alignments within the Confederacy of Independent Systems, open to all who wish to commune with and grow in their abilities in the Living and Cosmic Force. Security is tight, however, and CIS personnel vigilantly ensure the island remains undefiled by any who would disrupt or distract from the studies which occur there.
Description:
Located in the vast lake near the City of Theed, the artificial island was built with agreement from the denizens of Naboo and is situated over the entrance to the Force Nexus known as the ‘Cavern of the Depths’, which lies close to the planet’s core. A massive underwater elevator descends from the artificial lagoon located on the island which terminates at the underwater station where pilgrims can take a bongo sub to visit the Temple inside the cavern. The island consists of a large artificial lagoon on one half, and on the other, a large natural area surrounded by dormitories, training facilities, libraries, alchemical forges, and other Force-related facilities for both Light and Dark-Side Force-users.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Alchemists’ Laboratory - A laboratory for Sith Alchemy and Magic, comprising a synthesis of technology and magical accoutrements wherein all manner of Dark Side works might be wrought. From Sithspawn to Alchemy, studies into all manner of Sith mysteries are performed here.
Hall of Passed Masters - A serene meditation chamber, where Force-users of any alignment may go to commune with the ‘Force Ghosts’ of their traditions to learn and discover.
Duelist’s Courtyard - A place of training for all lightsaber forms and practice in dueling. Statues of famed Jedi, Sith, and non-aligned dualists are placed throughout. Training drones, simulations, and an array of single and double-bladed training sabers are found here. It is not uncommon for Light and Dark-Side Force-users, their apprentices and acolytes, to duel against one another as they hone their skills here, and this courtyard has been the scene of some of the most thrilling demonstrations of dueling and Force-combat skills seen anywhere outside of the battlefield.
Temple of Light - A tranquil garden with a small temple situated at its center, where Jedi and other Light-Side traditions may meditate on the mysteries of the Force and where small classes are held outdoors. Classes in Force skills held here are many and varied, and it is a usual sight to see several Masters holding classes in different skills here simultaneously.
Institute for Force Studies - A state-of-the-art research facility intended to promote the scholarly study of Force Traditions throughout the galaxy. Equipped with laboratories, libraries, and lecture halls, scholars of Force Traditions from many worlds gather together to debate and discuss the Force, its philosophical, scientific, and cultural impact on galactic society, and the history of Force traditions.
The Lagoon - A massive artificial lagoon, with marinas and docks located around it. A narrow bridge to a smaller inset artificial island can be found, and here is the surface terminal of the underwater elevator which descends to the station below where subs depart and return from bringing pilgrims to commune in the Force Nexus – The Cavern of the Depths.
School of Light - A training complex for Light-aligned Force-users, with special apartments for visiting Masters, archives, libraries, training rooms, and much more.
School of Dark - A training complex for Dark-aligned Force-users, with special apartments for visiting Masters, archives, libraries, training rooms, and much more.
Dormitories - Residential facilities for students of the various Force Traditions, as well as visiting scholars, researchers, and pilgrims using the Grey Monastery’s facilities, working at the Institute, or visiting the Force Nexus below. Recreational and auxiliary facilities include swimming pools, gymnasiums, meditation chambers, workshops, and more.
Security Barracks / Facilities - Security Forces patrol the island and its surrounding waters, maintain the tranquility and neutrality of the complex, and protect the Force Nexus below. Here they have housing, mess halls, a large infirmary, armories, command-and-control centers, etc. to foster their efforts.
Other Amenities - A physic’s garden, growing various herbs and plants used in several Force traditions is commonly maintained by members of both schools. A circular pond boasts a large statue of rare white kyber crystal, symbolic of the “Accord of Tolerance” which prevails across the island stands amid the training centers and dormitories.
SECURITY: High
Confederate security forces guard the island and patrol the waters around and beneath it, ensuring the serenity and unspoiled beauty of the facility and enforcing the Accord. They are well-armed, and backed by powerful sensors and scanners, security turrets meant to defeat threats by air or sea, a fleet of military subs and surface marine vessels, and several squadrons of interceptors. A powerful deflector shield protects against attacks, able to withstand even orbital bombardment. Of course, the usual planetary security of Naboo redoubles the safety and security of this facility also.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
Symbolic of the diversity and coexistence across the Confederacy, the Grey Monastery may be one of the few facilities of its kind anywhere in the galaxy. Here, Light and Dark-Side Force-users come together to train, study, and contemplate the mysteries of the Force. An “Accord of Tolerance” prevails here, and ensures that members of a variety of Force Traditions can come to learn and grow in the ways of the Force as equals and without fear. Baran-Do, Fallanassi, Dathomirian Witches, Aing-Ti, and many, many more have established training courses and areas on the island. A strict edict, issued by CIS Vicelord Darth Metus reigns here: Anyone who would violate the Accord forfeits his or her life, declared anathema to all Traditions, Masters, Apprentice, Acolytes, and is branded a criminal across the Confederacy.
A contest was held, inviting the youth of the Confederacy to help to design the island, and its majestic white kyber crystal sculpture shines bright there – a symbol of the highest ideals of the Confederacy. Deep below, subs depart the underwater station to take the dangerous trip into Naboo’s core regions to visit the Cavern of the Depths, a neutral Force Nexus where pilgrims report a profound and powerful connection to the Living and Cosmic Force. Gungan architects built the temple there, open to all who wish to visit and commune.
