Description: A mishmash of features that GenPal scientists say resembles the mythological Griffin. Created first as a special order, and then as a personal security companion, Griffriends and Grifflets are the smaller, more cuddly version of GenPals other offerings.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Breathes: Type 1
Average height of adults: 35cm/5cm
Average length of adults: 50cm/10cm (including tail)
Skin color: Pink
Fur color: Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ come in a wide range of fur and feather colours, from earth tones to jewel tones and everything in between.
Distinctions: GenPal’s Griffins are an amalgam of features. Wings, fur and feathers, beaks, clawed talons in front and equally clawed paws in the back. The long tail whips back and forth even when the rest of it is perfectly still. Unlike their larger cousins, Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ are lighter of build and bone and capable of true flight.
Races: Griffriends ™ are the larger, longer lived line, about the size of a large house cat. Grifflets ™ are significantly smaller, able to fit in the palm of a hand.

Strengths:
(+)Trainable: Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ are clever and can learn a variety of commands and even tricks.
Weaknesses:
(-)Sterile: Like all GenPals animals, Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ are sterile to discourage irresponsible breeding.
(-)Proprietary: Like all GenPals animals, Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ require GenPal brand food to remain healthy and within warranty. GenPals animals fed non-branded food will eventually weaken and possibly die, as they are engineered with certain nutrition needs only their proprietary blend contains in the right ratios.
CULTURE
Diet: GenPals Brand Griffin Chow. Can be supplemented with GenPals Brand Griffin treats to treat your new best friend! Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ should not be fed off brand food or it will void their warranty.
Communication: Chirps, squeaks, squawks, growls, and body language.
Technology level: N/A
Religion/Beliefs: N/A
General behavior: A Griffin is loyal and affectionate. Bred specifically to bond to its owner, it has a strong desire to be near, though these smaller Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ are *very* content to crowd a bit. They are never happier than when curled up in a lap or shoulder, and the smaller of the two will often quite comfortably occupy a shirt pocket. While they enjoy physical affection in the form of petting and head scratches (possibly even the errant belly rub), they largely prefer those affections to be performed on their terms. Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ are much more physically desiring of affection than their larger cousins. They are wary of strangers by nature, but are more skittish than the larger sort and will avoid confrontation if they can- however, if cornered can offer a nasty bite or swipe of the claw. A Griffin may clack its beak in warning before hand, but only if it is unsure of someone’s intent. All Griffins made by GenPals, both personal defense and those in the pet lines get along well with each other, but are warier of other animals, though this can be overcome with training and familiarity. While Griffriends ™ are generally fairly sedate (while playful, they prefer to nap and purr), Grifflets ™ are more prone to antics and *zooming*.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Cass thought they looked ridiculous. Which of course, she reasoned, meant they’d likely be insanely popular. Created as a special order originally, the Griffin is a hodge-podge of features, more suited to mythology than to reality. But the implication of its wider appeal became clear as they worked on the prototype for Miss King. It would eventually lead to multiple offerings for public sale, and spearhead the entry of GenPals into the ‘Private Security’ sector.
The newest offerings, Griffriends ™ and Grifflets ™ were a smaller, friendlier version of the standard size, created due to the popularity of a children's cartoon program offered by the company, about a pair of the creatures. The show, Griffriends, proved the popularity of the idea enough to make it worth perusing on a larger scale. Tie in marketing combined with children's insistence made the creatures an immediate hit. Additionally, costumes and accessories, based on the characters in the cartoon, are available for purchase.
