Bombshell Genius
A Guernica fitted with three bombs the size of a medium Deathball
Intent: To provide an ordnance launcher capable of fitting multiple sizes of ordnance for a future starfighter submission
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Ringovinda Systems
Model: Guernica ordnance launcher
Affiliation: Open market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-Produced.
Material: Quadanium, standard missile launcher components
Classification: Proton bomb launcher
Size: Starfighter-mounted
Length: 4.3 meters
Weight: 2 tons (empty)
Ammunition Type: Starfighter-mounted ordnance
Ammunition Capacity: One of the following:
- 2 heavy Deathballs or Tearstunners
- 4 medium Deathballs or Tearstunners
- 8 standard proton bombs (light Deathballs or Tearstunners)
- 16 standard proton torpedoes or concussion missiles
Rate of Fire: Single action, once every 2 seconds
Special Features: Can fit any starfighter ordnance up to 3.8 meters long and 533 mm wide: if it fits, it fires so long as the entire launcher is loaded with a particular type of weapon
Strengths:
- Able to fit a wide variety of ordnance, both in type and caliber
Weaknesses:
- Can only fit one type ofordnance at a time
- Targeting options are limited by the ordnance loaded in it and those of the launch platform
- Bulky
- Limited to bombers, in which case it counts for 2 standard bomb bays
Description: This ordnance launcher is designed in order to mount the medium and heavy Deathballs and Tearstunners internally, rendering their launch platforms less vulnerable by virtue of presenting smaller targets. In effect, it negates the need for medium and heavy Deathballs and Tearstunners to rely on external mounts to be used, unlike most bombers equipped with the Flex-Tube proton torpedo launcher or equivalent, which can only fit ordnance up to 203 mm wide. In a bid to cut costs, Ringovinda Systems eschewed equipping the launcher with its own targeting computer, instead relying on the targeting computer onboard the launch platform for targeting the ordnance launched.
Possible applications include bombers whose operators value the ability to fit multiple calibers of ordnance for different mission profiles, more than just different types of ordnance, giving them more flexibility than the Flex-Tube, albeit with no gain in capacity. It can launch a standard proton torpedo or concussion missile every two seconds (and also the same could be said for fitting larger-caliber weapons like the Deathballs or Tearstunners).
