The Haven was created as a solution for refugees after being evacuated from areas of conflict. For many, it is nor a permanent solution, but a way for them to gather their bearings and live in a relatively safe manner in the interim. While The Haven is not intended to be a permanent solution, some groups of refugees end up staying aboard the station for months at a time. As such, a good portion of the station’s area is dedicated to food and medical supplies. Bunks for passengers make up the largest chunk of the station’s area, and though the amenities are far from luxurious, they are sensibly built and well kept. The food kept aboard the Haven is rarely fresh, instead much of it is cured, dried and processed in some way to make it last longer while in storage. Medical facilities are not top notch, but are respectable enough and can provide basic medical care, obstetrics and childcare, and minor surgery. For more complicated or delicate issues, patients will have to be transported to a higher grace facility.
The Haven has no offensive weaponry, and in that sense it is a sitting duck to anyone who’d want to attack it. Though something like a refugee station would rarely be targeted, it does employ the use of multi-layer shielding in the event of an attack.
All Haven stations are staffed with ship crew, social workers and medical care workers. They help to coordinate the events of the station, receive and orient new refugees and help care for those already on board. Given that it may have to cater to vastly different species, living areas are equipped with environmental converters that produce ideal conditions according to the species living there. Living areas are separated based on species and their different needs. In the event that anyone become hostile aboard the station, a containment facility is located on the lower level.
