This looks like a great site but I'm very overwhelmed by it all. I have read the getting started guide but it confused about how everything works and what kind of character to make and what to do after that.

As long as I can understand I look forward to roleplaying with everyone.

That's the great thing about this site. You make whatever character you want to write. Some people I've known make a handful of characters before finding which one they really want to write. After you make a character, ask around the Discord channel for anyone looking for RPs. Also you can get involved with whichever faction you so choose to be with. For the most part, every faction has a discord channel to join as well.

Take some time to figure out what story grips you most and what kind of character you want to write. If you've got more ideas running around, there's of course nothing stopping you from making another one. A good way to get started is to pitch an idea (or just your character) in the Looking For Group area and see who bites.

Here is a list of our major factions that you can find on the map. If any of them grab your attention, it's as simple as clicking 'join' and introducing yourself in their forums.

Where would I find the discord?

My idea is some kind of imperial (or whatever is closest) ship commander starting small and working his way up and maybe discovering his connection to the force along the way.
