It seems like this is way into the future, post SW trilogy. Is there a wiki or timeline I can look at?

At the top of the page, you'll see 'Holonet', and if you mouse over that, you'll see some options. One of them is 'Timeline'. Each entry is in order by the year it happened. According to that the year is presently 844 ABY, but this has no bearing on how/if you age your character. The timeline is fluid.

Much as I hate to say it, but where's the switch character button? I already made a sub account, I just can't find the switch characters button...

Next to the "Sign Out" button there is a menu. There you can choose your character.

And just in case: The "Sign Out" button is next to your notifications.
