Designed as a long range escort with a heavy armament, the HF-3 Aran, Mando'a for "Guard," is a long range, extended mission heavy fighter that ranks as one of the most heavily armed in CST's line up. Featuring living space for a crew of four, two pilots and two sensor operators, and rack space for two, this allows the crew to swap flight and rest duty during a mission. The Aran also features an extensive armament, with four heavy particle cannons, four universal launch tubes, and two twin laser turrets. Along with this they are equipt with a long range scanner, allowing them to be the eyes of an escort if needed.
While these heavy fighters are impressive, they do have their flaws. HF-3s are big, so they will, inevitably, take hits in combat, and their living space is quite tight. Along with this the reactors are based in the booms, making repairs without a droid, carrier, or repair ship difficult.
Along with this, the followers of the Navis Sacra Religion showed interest in the craft early in development, so CST made a variant for them that replaces the sensor operator's position with space for an Angel Navis Operating System. These models take a crew of either two pilots, or two pilots and a gunner, though they can function on one pilot, and allow the crew the unique connection to the ship that the Angel Navis provides. At the same time, due to the nature of the system, it does mean that the HF-3 can be detected by the Force.
