High Society

"It doesn't matter." He assured Neesa.

"They all suspect me anyway." That was the way of things. "They know that even without the deeds I stand the most to gain out of anyone on Athiss. They'll think I'm making a move to gather myself more power."

They were right of course, but that could be ignored. "They think I'm moving to take a seat on The Council, and they are right."

He shrugged.

"There is little they can do about it." He looked down at her, smiling. "Unless you tell them the truth."

Neesa nodded her head at that. "I doubt they would move openly against you," she reasoned. "But judging by the fact that we're being followed I expect they're waiting for us to separate so they can find a way to get me to do just that."

Neesa was afraid. It didnt show on the surface and not even a faint tremor entered her voice. Cold. She always felt ice cold when she was afraid. It wasn't a pleasant experience but it brought it's own particular focus.

One going parallel to them in a corridor that ran above them and two behind. Masassi by the footsteps. If this was her city she would know exactly where to go and would be able to predict what they had planned. But she was a newcomer here and get feet did not know these streets on their own.

"So kill them." Vrak said simply as they wandered forward. His saber-staff hung on his belt, but he wasn't about to draw it, not in the defense of a slave. Doing so would have been utter folly, not just because of the political ramifications, but because fighting two Massassi at once was just asking for trouble, especially out here in the middle of the palace. Others would find them, and then...well it would be naught but foolishness.

"There is a plaza." He pointed to the left. "Hardly any light."

If he was going to fight them thats where he would do it. "I suggest you do it there."

No one would question two dead Massassi, or rather, they would just assume that the creatures had been killed in the...natural course of events after the meeting. That was the beauty of Athiss, there was so much political discourse that the murder of a few servants meant nothing.

But of course he was going to leave her too it. No point risking himself on her account. If she died then at least she would be silent and no longer be a loose end. Sitas would be angry at the waste, but Vrak seemed capable of swinging things his way.

Or was he? There was no way he could know that they wouldn't overpower and disarm her. He didn't know her capabilities. Not yet.

How long ago would they have sent the message for this? Long enough to have put the lid on the trap. She didn't know the city well, but she knew the lower levels around this district were quiet.

"If you're going, head straight. There will be a massassi ahead but he'll let you pass. Otherwise...Thank you for the suggestion."

She turned in the direction he'd suggested without warning. There was a change in the cadence of the heavy footsteps of course.
