Holocrons

I submitted mine for two reasons, one because it will become a crucial part of my character's story, and two because I felt that with the content on it, it would need an approval anyway. I got mine denied because "Holocrons don't require submissions."

@[member="Xardus Folidaar"] No yours would have been denied on these two reasons alone.

  • Teaches Juyo
  • Force Phase

Just because you say your father was a master, doesn't mean he gets to teach you uber powers. Force Phase is highly frowned on, and should honestly be banned from this site in my opinion.

In my submission thread, I asked if I would be able to edit it to make it better in terms with the site's rules. The answer was simply "Holocrons do not require submissions." If given the chance to edit it, I will gladly do so. But if it is being denied simply for the sake of it not being required, I don't see any point in it.

@[member="Xardus Folidaar"] That was just a preference choice then. I myself see no harm in a holocron submission if you want to catalog it specifically. Though for something that uses your bio as reference it's best to not try and use the top tier of Force abilities as what they teach. It will get a holocron denied.

Now if it had been a canon holocron that taught all the things, or one created from one of the high masters on this board it would contain a lot. For this, the simpler, and less the better.

Alright, understood. I just received a pm from another administrator recommending I put it in my bio. However, if allowed to edit the submission, taking away training of Juyo and Phase, I would much rather prefer that.

Intent: To create a holocron that Darrel Folidaar intended to pass on to his son, Xardus, before death. (If necessary, see my bio for details regarding his life and death)
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: Darrel Folidaar (father)
Model: Holocron
Affiliation: Darrel Folidaar/Jedi Order
Modularity: None
Production: Unique
Material: Various materials
Description: Sometime before he died and Xardus was but a young child, Darrel Folidaar began to record his knowledge for his son, for when he was old enough. Unfortunately, the relic was lost in the Jedi temple on Tython when he was killed in action. To ensure it's security, it can only be accessed by a member of the Folidaar bloodline. The holocron is a basic cube shape with cogs surrounding it. Engraved into the sides are aurebesh lettering and the republic logo.
Contents:
- Training of Ataru form, and beginning stages of Makashi.
- The basics in forging and purifying lightsaber crystals.
- Extended knowledge on wilderness survival.
- A message directly to Xardus. The message is as follows:

*Starting transmission. A middle-aged man appears, a full beard covering his weary face.*
"My dear son, I am recording this for you in the hopes that you will someday understand. I have spent my entire life as part of the Jedi order, training, amassing knowledge, and eventually having a family." *The sound of crying is heard from another room. Darrel looks back and smiles at young Xardus and his mother off-screen, then turns back.* "In this holocron, you will find many skills necessary to complete your training even further once you reach knighthood. Granted, you won't master them all in a day, as they will take serious practice. But, with training, you will accomplish anything, I promise you that. Just know one thing. With all I give you, you must treat it with care, and never let the power get to your head. And above all, remember that I love you. Goodbye, Xardus."
*Transmission ends. The image fades out into blackness.*

Basically, it comes down to the perception that someone might be handwaving their parent/master/garbage man/notable NPC in their life as having been gifted/powerful/learned enough to know a super powerful, ultra-rare Force Power and recording said power into a holocron that happens to be handed to this particular character by way of will or some similarly convenient plot point that renders the object without a doubt safetly theirs, thereby removing all chances of said holocron being found by others/destroyed.

When people want very powerful weapons/ships/powers, we always ask for a story. It's not enough to say "this NPC gave it to me". We want to see the story with other people on the board involved. It's easy to write by one's self and have everything go right for the character and have them safety gain the item. It's something else entirely to see a character struggle and fight for it.

And as always; when in doubt, ask a member of Staff. We're always happy to help out.

Except me.

I'm a Grumpy Goat.

Jacques' Two Cents:
  • Canon Holocrons, just like Canon Ships and Canon Weapons, should not need a submission into the Factory.
  • Player-Created Holocrons, just like Player-Created Ships and Player-Created Weapons, should need a submission into the Factory.

*rises slowly from the partial depths of nonexistence*
I agree to. If only to allow everyone the ability to reference things, and to have a clear record of max capabilities and such.
*goes back to writing lame essays for school*
