How Easy Is It to Start New RP Threads?

This question came into my mind due to the fact, that yesterday I was supposed to start six new RP threads. Typically I panic when it comes to starting new threads. I am not a good writer and my English skills are not that good, that I could write something fantastic.

That's why most of my opening posts are short.

I don't know what to write about, especially when I have to write about my characters being on a planet which Wookieepedia doesn't have much information about. So normally, I click the New Thread button, panic, then name the thread, panic, choose the location or write some sentences, panic. Then I just write something down and quickly post the the thread, not even reading my post.

And then I think, that it's extremely easy for everybody else to start new threads. So how easy is it exactly to start new RP threads? How do you name them? What inspires you the most when writing the opening? How long does it take you? How long is your average opening post?

The actual writing is easy.

The will to make them is hard.
What that delicious @[member="Emberli Garett"] said.

1. Medium to easy depending on what the focus of the thread is.
2. Music is my muse, so sometimes they are song lyrics. Other times they are Star Wars Movie quotes.
3. Music. Music. Music-- and if someone asks me to start a thread... dice. Random encounter is random.
4. Depends if I end up taking a nap. Anywhere from an hour to a day...
5. Depends --- on how musically mused I am and how emotionally attached I am to it. Sometimes, I've had too much caffeine and it ends up short and sweet.

Just get out there and write to your heart's content. Don't write too much, and don't write too little. Do what you feel comfortable with.

And where were the spiders
I don't mind starting if my muse is ready, but sometimes it takes like an hour to a day, depending on the muse, to get starting ready. This is helped by music. And if its an Open Thread, just to make a thread, those are the trickiest to write, as sometimes you might not get any hits on it. Thats the real trick.

Yeah, open threads must have really good, interesting openings to catch attention. That's why I almost never start any open threads. :D Yes, music is really inspiring, but I am really bad at finding the right music, even though I have musical education and I just love listening to something... Though there are a few pieces (epic music... again... :p) I enjoy listening to when the time and character are right.

EDIT: Coffeeeeeeee!

I haaaaaaaate starting new threads. I hate it so much it makes my circuits burst into flames like a phoenix, rise from the ashes anew, and burst once more. Every time somebody asks me to start a new thread, I punch a wall, curled up into fetal position and scream "Why me?!" but then I get around to writing it and just describe stuff.
Describe how the scene would begin for me, like watching a movie, what the character would do, whether his face would tense up at the moment or not, who would be there, what they would say or my character would say, how their reactions flowed, etc.

I hate that initial moment when you stare at a blank page and you have to come up with something, but that's the hardest part really, all you need to do is get a ball rolling and rest should be easy. You don't really need to worry about your openings being too short, just say all that you need to say, describe what needs to be describe, nothing more nothing less.

BTW, guess who knows exactly how much I hate starting threads yet every time I ask her to rp with me she makes me start them? >.> @[member="Cira"]

And for me Dominions are much worse to start than Open threads :p Since you need to come up with background and story in that first thread good enough to keep the thread alive for 100 posts or so.

Honestly, it's a mix of just being able to come up with good ideas and just trial and error. Like, some people have their coffee, others listen to music and such, I just think about the forums while I drive and usually come up with some ideas that are not too bad. But some ideas will be great, some will fail, you just have to learn from experiences which ones would be more likely to succeed than others.

And frankly half of the things I write about I just make up as I go and improvise :p

So basically if she's not napping and you happen to find the right song, she'll post.

Or you have to be named Patches.

Either way, the odds aren't good!

Oh please! People have gotten spam posts from me that are not @[member="Jonathon Patches"] !

Even you @[member="Emberli Garett"].

@[member="Daella Apparine"] has learned to link me youtube music videos to get me to post >.>

I like starting threads, most of the time - a stark contrast from where I used to generally avoid it, having been more than happy to let other people do it. Ease in doing it, however, is dependent on several variables.

I could write something very nice for openning post but usually I don't have the time. However, and keep your socks on, when I do have time I use a six point method.

1. I cover what is seen
2. What are the sounds
3. What is tasted because Ordo is usually drinking caff or some form of alcohol in the opener.
4. What does the character physically feel...hot, cold, squirrel gnawing on your arm ect
5. You guessed it are there smells and there should be he's a Mando.
6. This is the biggy. What are they thinking and feeling.

If I do all that it's a post I can be happy with regardless of length.
Yeah my two credits on it.

Disclaimer: only listen to 15% of anything I say...and don't blame me if it fails or you pick the wrong 15%.
