How many established NFU's do we have?

When it comes to combat, the primary advantages the NFU has over the FU are versatility and numbers. Your average Force user knows how to wave around a glowstick and use space magic. That's effective, no doubt, but not insurmountable. The fact that Order 66 was a thing is proof positive that they can be killed. The trick is not to play to their strengths.

Or at least that's how it would work in an ideal setting, but some of the folks on here are so bekarkled that it's a wonder they can tie their shoes in the morning without accidentally knotting up all the plumbing in a twenty mile radius.

Rockets, Flamethrowers, Force Breakers, Verpine (railguns), and guns with a high rate of fire are your best friends against Force Users. As is the element of surprise (Many of the Jedi killed in order 66 were killed without them even knowing the Clones had flipped sides.) A good target idea is to focus fire on the same spot and fire as many shots as possible. Blocking shots in the spot is pretty damn difficult.

It's rare to find FUs that can stand against these without failing. More often than not, people will look over these facts and hand wave a defense against weaponry made to kill them. I have with a couple, which is why I've chosen to reset my character. This sort of weaponry is a terror to the Lightsaber Wizards.

I'd say the Mandalorians fit the bill better (though they don't have a political game).
I believe that many of their leaders are Force Users though.

Firemane offers a range of bolters, which are weapons ideal for killing Force users, due to being mini grenade launchers. Lightsabre that and you'll get more shrapnel than you know what to do with!

RCFC has some kit geared towards that as well, and now that we've hit Tier 2, we'll be expanding that lineup.

All the cool toys in the world won't do you any good if the FU in question is determined to be Space Jesus though.

Do I count as a NFU? Or established?...
Ven was a FU for, like, 2 IC months and 1 OOC week, so I don't know if that means anything...
She's force-dead now, but she's been a regular NFU for most of her 2+ year existence.

Not really established, but I've had a lot of fun playing a droid. Not being able to be mind tricked is pretty cool. And when it comes to combat having a large arsenal is a really good idea for people without the force. Use batman as an inspiration: preparation, preparation, preparation. If your character knows they are going to encounter a force user pick weapons that would be super hard to block with a lightsaber, like explosives, dont go in with just a blaster. Lay some traps, spend the extra RP time learning the lay of the land, ect. Space wizards have the same failing that a lot of characters with superpowers have in media: they rely on them too much.

I think I had a great career RP wise. I had my share of major success and failures. All of them in Black Sun. Now that they're gone though I've been lost. Tossed a few ideas around but never got them going to reestablish myself. To be honest I think its time I wrap up this character with a good death. Then I can finally have a new main character I can focus on instead of just hovering this one.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but trying to get a good NFU going is a lot harder than it should be. While the format of Chaos has a number of distinct advantages over fixed location threads, one of its major drawbacks is that reputation really matters. A budding Force user might be able to get in with a major faction as someone's apprentice and make themselves useful, but outside of a few niches such as trooper or smuggler, it's damned difficult to make a name for yourself as a non Force user. If you can't catch the eye of one of the more established folks, you're going to spend most of your time threading with other newcomers.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, as there are plenty of talented writers on the board in the same boat, but sticking to the fringes just isn't as fun for some folks. Trying to get noticed and get RP that actually feels like it's having an impact is like trying to pull teeth from an alligator with a temper problem and an addiction to PCP. Sure it's technically possible, but barring some extremely good fortune, it's probably going to be a lot more trouble than it's worth.
This.................exactly this. I have am currently working on NFUs 5, 6 and 7 since joining Chaos. They are insanely hard to get off the ground unless you were here day 1 or are OOC friends with somebody who was.

My first character ever was an NFU Fleeter in GR that was like pulling teeth to get any threads with. The biggest issue I see is that habit of established FU writers just creating another Alt that is NFU than cultivating newer more NFU centered writers on the boards.

Just my observations though.

What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me. That said I find I had a relatively easy time on the board despite all of the first characters I made being NFU's. I don't particularly thread a lot either in comparison to many other writers. That said I've observed other writers and agree it can be difficult to establish a character but not just any character, I'd contend that FU's can be just as difficult to establish as NFU's.

One suggestion I might make is to participate in the Weekend Treasure Hunts that [member="Jorus Merrill"] hosts. You'll be able to rub shoulders with a wide variety of folks in these threads and can come away with some pretty cool loot. I try to participate in them often as one character or another.

When I first came to this site, I wanted to play the same character I had played so many times before. So I made a Bothan Spy named Strask. I joined the CIS, and tried to be as active as I could.... but there was nothing for me to do. I couldn't figure out how the site worked, and I wasn't getting anywhere on that character. I decided to put him away for the moment and try making a Jedi. After all, why not make a Force User.

Two training threads, a few miscellaneous stories, and one invasion in which I did basically nothing, and Saran was a knight. I suppose it was simply because at the time there was the Sith War, and EVERYONE was promoted, but I took it. As a Jedi, even as a no post padawan, doing things, and being part of threads, was easy. Higher ranking Force Users want to help the little ones succeed, IC and OOC, and as such, writing one was easy. You can get of the ground with very little effort in a faction. NFUs don't work like that.

Even after Strask had been promoted to head of the Spynet, I remember most of the people in it were Force users. I think two of them weren't, including me. A NFU needs a nitch, sure, but no matter what, there will often be a Force User who can do it as well, and will usually claim to be better.

The force? HAH. Who needs the force when you got a flame spewing device, men that also have said flame spewing devices, and mechs that have oversized flame spewing devices. (I only have one FU and everything has been going fine)
