CULTURAL NOTES
  • Language Superiority: Hutts consider Huttese a superior language, often using it exclusively and relying on protocol droids for translation.
  • No "Please" or "Thank You": Huttese lacks polite phrases like "Please" and "Thank You".
  • Counting System: Hutts use a base-8 counting system, which can be confusing since most other races use base-10. Be wary of deals involving quantities, as Hutts might try to sell you twelve (Huttese) items, which is only ten in Basic.
  • Word Endings: Many Huttese words end in "-a," "-a(C)a," palatalized "l" (rulya), and duplicated words (rocka rocka, puna puna, chu chu).
  • Fluency: Huttese is a common language in the galaxy. Many species are fluent in it, like the Nimbanels, Rodians, and Toydarians.

Some helpful information to keep in mind when learning Huttese:

  • Many Huttese words end with an "-a," especially "-a(C)a," palatalized "l" (rulya), and expressions formed by duplicated words (rocka rocka, puna puna, chu chu).
  • The Hutts had no words for "Please" and "Thank You".
  • Hutts often offered to sell twelve of something in Huttese, which was the equivalent of ten in Basic, to swindle other races.
