AI: Contrary to a droid, IONA has a wider range of sentience and can think outside of the box when it comes to its area of expertise.
Specialized: It is designed for a specific task, and while able to adapt, would not be able to perform other tasks efficiently.
Localized: Its programming is located within the battlesuit and contrary to some other AI it cannot move its programming through the HoloNet or other easy means. The only exception is if the module is removed from the suit and installed in another.
IONA was created to help with a serious limitation when dealing with complex technology. It quickly becomes far to much for a single mind, especially a standard sentient mind, to deal with. IONA controls Allya's battlesuit, and all the systems onboard it. This goes from flight using the micro-fighter, sensor analyzation , comm encryption and decryption, electronic warfare, battlefield repairs, energy consumption, slicing assistance, and so much more. IONA frees Allya's mind to focus on the battle, and leading her troops rather than constantly balancing the reactors, and monitoring everything.
As the amount of weaponry, and equipment increases and the complexity of it all goes up, IONA is a reliable, and loyal partner able to assist its companion with the ever increasing burden. It's also incredibly crafty, able to intercept enemy communications and decrypt them, slice into their databases using decrypted comm units, or sensors, and so much more. It's abilities in battle and system administration are only limited by its programming, experience, and Allya's imagination.
