In A World Where the Kings Are Employers (First Order Dominion of Thakwaa Hex)

Objective: Establish Forward Command Base
Allies: [member="Amin Garith"]

The General initially did not respond to Amin's question; instead he merely reached for his belt once again, unfurled his blaster pistol sidearm, and checked the weapon's energy cell magazine. Finding it sufficiently charged, Vaas placed the weapon back in its holster on his utility belt.

"That is correct, Liuetenant," Came his reply. "I will be assuming command of this operation. Have your team ready by fifteen-hundred hours."

Having given Garith sufficient orders, Ludolf then turned away to face his engineers, where his presence had been requested. Beyond them, the glistening steel building of the command center shone amidst the forest backdrop, its transparisteel windows brightly reflecting the sunlight. The entire structure was portable, and designed to be quickly erected and dismantled for purposes such as these. Inside the command center would be all the necessary provision and equipment for survival and military operations for General Vaas' unit here on Thakwaa.

"General, the command center is fully operational," His engineer reported. "All computer systems running normally, fully powered. We have radar and established communications with the fleet overhead. Kitchens and water fully operational, perimeter defense system fully operational. The lasers of our perimeter will detect any movement, which will be met by our automated defense turrets."

"Good," Vaas replied bluntly. "Thakwaa is ours. Now, it's time for me to go hunting."

Amin replied "Aye Aye" in the affirmative to [member="Ludolf Vaas"] before turning and jogging to his men. The Platoon Sgt left the squad he'd organized as Amin approached. Twelve men were before him, a mix matched group of folk with special operations and scout ratings. They momentarily stood a little straighter as the Officer approached. Amin occupied a unique position as a former Imperial Commando from the glory days of the Sith Empire, a survivor of the burning of Dromund Kaas and the subsequent campaigns. Fighting a war that you know you're going to lose does strange things to the soul.

Deep invisible scars in addition to the physical ones. Watching comrades die and your worlds burn in spite of your effort. It killed morale. Lack of hope killed as many troopers as any Pub Jedi towards the end.

It gave his eyes a certain intensity born of watching his nation burn before his eyes. The men he now commanded saw it and treated his words with reverance.

"General Vaas will be joining us for this hunt. We'll root out any natives we find in the woods. They're to be treated as hostiles. Any you find. Do second platoon right, yeah?"

They motto'd loudly in the affirmative.

The troopers waited patiently for the General to arrive.

The hours crept by, but darkness was still thick on this side of Thakwaa, and the two agents had done their part in silence. Hyori was kneeling again, one knee bent against the ground, just finishing up her last sample when Sentiri’s voice cut into the stillness. Agent Tal did not experience most emotions the same way others did, but there was some semblance of relief and even happiness at the thought of moving on – not that it would show on her face. Deft fingers set collection containers gently and orderly into her bag, and a moment later they were on the move again. Just as swift, and just as silent as they had been on their way out.

They had only started their trek back to the ship when Sentiri’s scanner perked up. There was something there, something fairly close. Hyori pulled her scanner back out, and she watched as it flashed to confirm her partner’s findings. There was a small blip on the screen, every time it flickered on and off, the position changed slightly. It was getting closer. However, the size of the being seemed to be of little concern. Before she could even open her mouth to speak, she turned to see the Chiss agent taking off in the direction of the creature.

Hyori’s boot pushed off the ground, and she followed close on Sentiri’s heels. Before she knew it, they were back in the thick woods. And now, she was back at the foot of the wooden trap door. The agent’s sharp eyes caught movement in the darkness, and her blaster pistol was pointed at it before she could even see clearly what it was. It was a small Thakwaash – a child. Its fame was small, thin, but athletic too. A tawny mane fell about its face, giving the creature a somewhat feral appearance. The Thakwaash’s eyes were like shiny black stones, and they looked upon the two women with curiosity. To someone with a softer heart, this small creature may have easily been described as ‘cute’.

A quick glance to the side revealed that Sentiri seemed to be thinking, but this time Hyori would act before her fellow agent could say otherwise. This creature was small, but she had no doubt that it was still fierce and strong. Agent Tal’s blaster quickly came level with its dark eyes, and she pulled the trigger without a moment’s hesitation – the Thakwaash did not even see it coming. She watched as it fell into a crumpled heap, and it looked very much like a small mound of brown fur.

Her eyes turned to Sentiri.

“Collect the samples.”

Keskin,
[1]

Keskin was a temperate world.

High rolling jungles, fields that were sparingly interrupted by little settlements and the ruins of a few imperial outposts from the old days before the Gulag. It was these ruins that brought Relens and his men to this world - not because of them specifically, but because of the threat they were hiding to the very fabric of the First Order and the order it was attempting to instill.

The real issue of rebellion wasn’t putting them down.

It was permanently exterminating all forms of resistance across the entirety of your territories. This was the question constantly hammering those with Imperial idealism. Because they might have destroyed the remnants on Hoth and previous to that rooted out the Resistance in other places.

But somehow… there was always another fight.

They had managed to subdue a reasonable portion of the beasts on Thakwaa, but now a new threat was emerging. Some of them had managed to escape and found their way to Keskin, where they were bolstering the drained numbers of the Resistance.

This was why Relens and his men were here.

"Sir, if I may ask, why is she here?" One of the Stormtroopers looked anxiously at the crouched form of their VIP. Strange armor that suggested she was Mandalorian, but the beskar’gam was different, thinner in frame and form. More agile and less bulky.

"Orders are orders, soldier."

Relens wasn’t happy about it either, but apparently the woman - they assumed she was a she because of the armor and a somewhat feminine voice modulator - had the support of some higher-ups in the Science departments of the Order.

And if there was anything the First Order loved it was their scientists.

"We simply must… adapt to the situation, even if we are not entirely pleased with it."
"Yessir."

There were fourteen of them this time.

More than on Hoth, which made Relens think the Order was pleased with him. It didn’t change anything about his old crewmates, but at least he could do some good in the here and now.

Six and eight. Ren and Stormtroopers. His following was growing, if marginally so.

Getting past the skeleton-like metal guards gave the Sith no trouble as he confidently marched into the temporary HQ, the sound of his footsteps rhythmically taking turns with the clicks of cane, positively giving away Veles’ visit even before he revealed his presence. The moment his eyes fell on the brunette, laughter tried to force its way through the amphibian’s mouth, stopped only by the Darth’s self-control. Enyo looked as if she had liberated half of Coruscant while having a date with all those self-proclaimed Sith Lords. She only needed a chest covered in medals to make the image perfect. A miserable sight to behold, but she still lived, unlike many others. Veles took note of Enyo’s companion staying vigilant as she – it? – guarded the human while another droid treated the young Force user’s injuries.

“Oh, it was nothing,” he courtly waved the compliment away, offering a soft giggle, but not before leaning on that cane of his.

Both of his autumn-coloured eyes focused on Enyo; that did not stop Veles from having that cold suspicion of Vess’ gaze staying buried in his back, searching through his very soul. The disturbing sensation refused to leave, similarly to the Sith denying his eyes the temptation of swivelling around to confirm what he already knew.

“How do you feel, lady Typhos? Can I get you anything?”

Always the gentlebeing.

“The entire planet is a toxic mess.”

That was rather bluntly said by the fluttering Toydarian hovering along a holographic array of the planet. With toxic marshes and over a millenia of over mining and pollution, Sump was a world well suited for PharmaTech’s needs.

That is, in exploring their revolutionary methods of biome restoration.

PharmTech’s major project includes Green Technology, along with Browncoat Industrial, to provide sustainable and productive methods of agriculture and restoring impoverished soils back to a productive level. That was the goal with Sump.

The world wasn’t really on the radar for most. It held Akure facilities and had a small population, but the bulk of them shipped in produce. If Pharmatech was able to work through their five year plan, perhaps they could change that.

“Yes, but can it be done?” Saffron would ask, her voice a quiet murmur in the room full of scientists and Arceneau Trade experts.

A pause, then a sigh.

“We can begin with a biodome -- perhaps setting down here,” He motioned to an area in the Southern Hemisphere, near the equator.

“Begin research and testing in the marshes…. And work from there.”

Saffron gave a nod.

“Let’s do that.”

The Galactic Alliance stealth starfighter scouts had one singular mission; to detail any important movements by the First Order.

They were not to engage. Not to get too close so as to be spotted, but merely travel the sectors near Lothal as a preventative measure against any aggressive actions.

Choli Vyn, Rogue Seven, flew quietly along. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. Honestly it was a bit boring. Running on low power and simply gathering information wasn’t as exciting as a dogfight. Happening across First Order expansion was not in her plans today.

Funny how that works.

After Dunames returned from her final bombing run, which led to a Thakwaash town being bombed with a pair of heavy damotite bombs, she was looking for some rest. The day was grueling and she did not want to fly any more until she could get some rest. Yet she isn't getting much, if any, rest just yet. A groggy Dunames hurriedly initiated landing sequence for the TIE Reaver she has been flying, thinking that she can just lie on a bed onboard the AT-AT barge once she is in hyperspace and the ship cruises to Lipsec for refueling and for getting the security detail for the next part of the mission, and sleep again upon departure from Lipsec. But as Dunames' work on Lipsec ends, presumably her new duty would take her elsewhere; her mercenary contract stated that the contract ended "when the dominion ends" - and the official end of the dominion as defined in the contract has not yet arrived.

"Sable 12, here are your new instructions for you: from now on I have to inform you that you're no longer part of Sable Squadron"

"Any rationale for this?"

"Your role on Thakwaa is over: Admiral Thurman informed me that you would go on recon over Ryoone"

"What are my orders now?"

"Just take that AT-AT barge, go to Lipsec, and then take a security detail with you to go to Ryoone with"

Freshly dead was better than very dead. At least that was true in terms of biopsy procedures. Sentiri was not opposed to taking the life of the young Thakwaash. Neither the morality of the situation or the practicality of it were a concern for the ice-hearted Chiss. But if there was a possibility of live study, the child would have been beneficial in those terms; especially being more vulnerable and easier to manage than a fully grown adult. The Thakwaash that were on the fighting front would be agitated and nearly impossible to control. Any corpses retrieved from the battlefield would be almost entirely useless. And while a witty tactician might be able to garner information from the Thakwaash strategy on the fly, that information was limited in worthiness beyond the military spectrum. Studying the psychology of the Thakwaash was just as important as their physiology.

There was no psychology after death. There was just a hunk of rapidly decaying meat.

Sentiri did not waste the opportunity before them, however. In moments her weapon and scanner were put away and replaced by a number of medical implements. Scalpels went to work carefully making incisions to the skin, tissue, and finally organs. Sentiri was no medical expert, but she knew enough of the basics to know what would be potentially valuable and what would probably be irrelevant. Skin was the first. Muscle tissue came after that. Blood, both arterial and venous, were also on the checklist. The brain was imperative as well, and would take more time to access.

As she went about shattering the skull, Sentiri continued to ponder her hesitation and [member="Hyori Tal"]'s impulse. How like an assassin to think of circumstances in terms of threat level versus a programmer to think of circumstances in terms valuable data. A dead Thakwaash was easier to manage than a live one. They'd need to transport the captive, on a terribly functioning and cramped ship no less, all the while keeping it moderately sedated. The only sedative they had were the stun settings on their blasters, but even continuous stun bolts could be fatal.

Killing the child had been the right call. Sentiri's had been too greedy in her pursuit of knowledge. She'd remember that in the future.

Sentiri had avoided the frontal lobes of the brain, where charring from the lethal blaster bolt undoubtedly scarred the tissue. So she entered from the back of the skull instead. Simply hammering the skull out of the way would similarly damage the potentially valuable brain tissue, so she carefully cut it away with the vibroblade turned to its highest setting. Blood pooled and coagulated, making Sentiri's job more difficult. But she still managed to gouge out a chunk of brain tissue that she felt might be beneficial. No way to tell until the samples were back in a lab somewhere.

And the quicker they got to a lab, the better preserved their formerly living samples would be. The Chiss woman cleaned her tools off haphazardly, her own hands still coated in blood. With the lack of a sterile environment, it wouldn't make much of a difference. There was no choice but decontamination for her. "Let's get to the fleet."

Having deposited General [member="Ludolf Vaas"] and his strike team on the ground, Vastor ran through an abbreviated preflight check for the return jaunt. He'd returned to the pilot's seat of the stormtrooper transport, switching back with the comms officer, but he kept an eye on how the fighter screen developed. So far it appeared to be functioning as intended. Say one thing for the First Order: their rank and file understood discipline better than any outfit Vastor had ever seen.

The preflight came back mostly clear, though he flagged the inertial dampeners for a maintenance followup; he'd noticed a little turbulence on the way down. Once upon a time, in ancient days, First Order stormtrooper transports had been just fine with jiggling their troops around. Vastor found that unprofessional. Fortunately, the modern dropships had much better inertial dampeners, and Vastor intended to keep his that way.

The transports rose from the surface, up through the fighter screen. Stray fire followed them, but ricocheted helplessly off the transports' shields. Vastor set a course for his carrier.

Isla had wandered away from her transport, and towards the Forward Base had been completed. The dark figure of the new Knight of Ren remained on the outskirts of the area, and she noted the contrast between the building and the nature scene. Green eyes spotted the figure of two men walking, both appeared to be high ranking, judging by their uniforms and the way they carried themselves. She knelt in the brush, and reached out with the force, listening in on their conversation. It was as though their voices were right next to her, most of the information was of little interest to Isla, but she had heard one of the men say the word ‘hunting’.

She stepped into the woods, moving swiftly away from the base. Back home on Skye Isla had taken a lot of pleasure in joining their local hunting parties. The simple knife on her belt was a reminder of that life. Isla’s footsteps carried her swiftly through the trees, and her cloak billowed slightly behind her as she moved. She paused every now and then to inspect evidence of the Thakwaash left behind in the woods, scratch marks upon trees, broken branches, remnants of camping spots. It was clear that they were around, even if she had yet to meet one. However, she had no idea how many of the creatures from the surrounding area had met their deaths in the initial battle.

But she did not have a doubt that there would still be more fighting to come.

"Relens."

His attention shifted from the ruins in the distance towards that same armored form.

"Yes?"
"I have received all the intel we can get."

At first Relens had been skeptical about what the ‘Mandalorian’ had to offer them, but this soon evaporated as she started to recount everything they needed to know and more. It wasn’t clear how she got this information - she had been crouching nearby for close to twenty minutes without so much as twitching or scratching her nose.

"...and you know this how?" The man questioned after hearing what she had to report. Itaska would have felt it if the Force had been involved, at least he thought he would have.

His connection was still erratic at best and weak at the worst, but twenty minutes of close proximity should have tipped him off at the very least.

"Science, Ren. Science."

Right. It didn’t seem like the woman was much interested in divulging her sources, so he nodded curtly before aiming his attention at his squad.

"We will be sticking to pairings. Two Stormtroopers per Ren, move out."

This left one Ren unaccounted for who was beckoned to follow him and the Mandalorian.

“I’ve seen some messes in my time,” Meneer’s staff sergeant said, as he surveyed the wreckage of the battleship.

Meneer checked that the conversation wasn’t on an open channel before agreeing. Somehow, some local rebels had got hold of a significant missile and through a combination of luck and poor piloting, had managed to take the major ship out.

“You’re not wrong," said Chrome. He turned his own helmeted head to let his gaze sweep over the area. "It's a very large mess indeed.”

A third trooper, looked around but said nothing — he was not party to the conversation.

The three troopers were dressed the same — only a shoulder patch identified Chrome as an officer. They all moved and held their blaster rifles the same way. They had been trained from a young age to act in a certain way and were a credit to the trooper programme that they were interchangeable and entirely reliable.

They were standing on a nameless hillside, with their shuttle resting on the scorched ground just a short distance away.

With Dunames still not quite fully rested, the AT-AT barge landed on Lipsec, well outside the areas where spacelines would normally go. Ryoone was to be Dunames' next objective. She was to transport an AT-AT and six AT-STs to the surface of Ryoone. While said vehicles were to get in position, she had to retract the lower deck floor so as to accommodate the kneeling AT-AT but the AT-STs had to stay clear of the AT-AT barge while the AT-AT was to be loaded onboard, held by magnetic clamps while the lower deck floor was being extended. AT-STs could be loaded with the lower floor extended but AT-ATs could not. Once the loading sequence for the AT-AT was over, she could disembark from the ship looking for the closest TKFC location, and she was used to eating TKFC by now so that she could have 2-credit, 2-piece special, this time around supersizing the drink. But because it was late night on that area of Lipsec, she wouldn't need to wait long for that TKFC craving. She needed to eat something to go along with the caf: these long flights made her hungry. The complement of troops for the Ryoone mission was being loaded alongside their AT-AT...

"May I take your order please?"

"Yes, I am ordering a 2-credit, 2-piece late-night special"

"Drink? For here or to go?"

"Caf, to go. Oh and supersize the caf please, I have a long flight ahead of me and I wouldn't like to fall asleep when landing sequence is to occur"

"Where are you headed?"

"Ryoone. There, your order is ready now"

The next moments that followed with filled with the small sounds of Sentiri’s medical instruments being pulled out, and Hyori saw them gleam slightly in the darkness a few times. Her eyes shifted from the tools to the little body of the Thakwaash, it no longer seemed like a child, now it was merely a specimen of science – a life given to the cause. The agent watched as the skilled hands of Sentiri went to work, it was a task that she could have done if there was need, but she doubted that even her own meticulous hands could have been equal to the task. While she understood basic physiology, where the vital spots in the body where, her own knowledge was based more around making them cease to function.

There was blood spilling upon the ground now, her colleague’s hands were colored deep red as well. Hyori stepped up out of the bunker, and let the cool air wash over her; it would not be long before the breeze carried the scent of death. Both hands had a blaster pistol now, her hands alert but her fingers well-disciplined and controlled. The scanner was activated on her belt, and she listened passively to the quiet sounds it made. A lone child out in the night, she had never been very maternal, but she knew that parents rarely let their young wander far without supervision. These Thakwaash were savage, feral and more, but she had the feeling that their feelings towards their children would be similar to other beings.

It would only be a matter of time before they discovered the dead child in the underground bunker.

Hyori turned as she heard Sentiri’s voice behind her. A glance over the Chiss’ shoulder revealed a body that had given all that it could; it was more like a hollow shell now. They did not linger a moment longer, their footsteps taking them quickly out of the woods and in the direction of the Adventure. But before they could reach their small rusty bucket of a ship, a beeping on the scanner alerted the agents to movement.

And a roar of pain and anguish rang out in the night; it was followed closely by an enraged growl.

Isla had been thoroughly enjoying herself as she ran through the woods of Thakwaa. The air was fresh, the trees rustled soothingly in the breeze, and she felt free. But this feeling was not meant to last. Just as the flame-haired woman found the foot of a mountain range, her commlink came to life. She stood in the shadow of the mountain, listening to the instructions that found her ear. There was a new threat on the planet Keskin, as Thakwaa had been brought to its knees under the power of the First Order, she was ordered to meet with a group of her fellow Ren.

Her shoulders slumped under her dark cloak, and she turned on a heel towards her transport. With a last glance behind, she sped off again, ignoring the call of the wilds. It wasn’t long before she was strapped into her seat, feeling the small space of the ship closing in around her once more. How she hated this part...
: : later on : :
Now Isla stood with a group of Ren, her eyes were on the imposing form of Itaska Relens. She had run with him once before, on the snowy ground of Hoth. She watched curiously as he conversed with an unfamiliar armored figure. It was the first time she had ever seen such armor in person, and she heard from the others that it was a Mandalorian. Isla understood that this likely made her a clan person and a formidable warrior, but the others seemed skeptical. It must not have been normal for such a person to accompany a First Order operation.

Relens instructed them to break into small groups. Isla stood still, watching as pairs of Stormtroopers stepped to the sides of her Ren comrades... but she was left standing alone. Her head tilted slightly, had they not wanted to march at her side? But then she saw that Relens was beckoning to her, so she stepped to follow him and the strange armored woman.

They would begin with an Eden Project Biodome.

Each Eden Project Biodome varies based on location in size, but ultimately follows the following outline. It contains a headquarters, starport, residential sectors, and finally the research and development facilities that also include the numerous hectares of land devoted to bio-chemical agriculture.

The most distinguishing feature is the use of sustainable energy through solar, wind, geothermal, or algae energy production throughout the facilities. This particular model would be based upon Sump's marshy terrain. Scouts had already researched the area in question. Following up, the Sump biodome would have the following sections:

Eden Project Headquarters: Each BioDome's Headquarters holds numerous offices, conference rooms, meeting halls, and other amenities that such a building would hold. Within these Headquarters are also several small hangar bays for shuttles and the like to land.

Starport: The Biodomes are typically located far away from any major city. More often than not, there are no roads of mag-level tracks that lead to it, requiring the use of its own starport. The Starport within the BioDomes are rather size able, capable of handling over a hundred shuttles and more than a dozen large transport ships, which often dock there to deliver supplies. The Starport is used daily in order to ferry workers to and from any orbital stations daily. Arceneau Trade then provides free transport to and from the surface at regular intervals. Besides this, the Starport receives visitors, dignitaries, and supply ships. It is unfortunately not possible to land capital ships within any of the BioDome's starports.

Research & Development Facilitis and Agricultural Hectares: This facility is specialized. It is in fact the largest division within the territory of these BioDomes. These house the many hectares of land used for the agriculture and bio-chemical agriculture of various botanicals and flora. Each planet has a varying amount of hectares, but each are treated with care and concern. These fields, orchards, and hydro-agricultural plots are serviced by Ho'din, Ithorian, and Morodin horticulturalists, alongside other sapients with a passion for the Eden Project.

Residential Facilities: The residential area of the Bio-Domes spans for several kilometers and can house more than a hundred thousand people. It is here that those residents and researchers that work for Arceneau Trade and PharmaTech live. The accommodations are spacious, comparatively sustainable and use green energy, and most importantly, completely and totally free. Living within the Eden Project costs the average worker nothing, however, workers must buy their own food, furniture, etc. Eden Projects Bio-Dome's Residential Facilities also features schools, shops, a trade center, medical facilities, and sustainable energy through solar, wind, geothermal, or algae energy production.

In a private encrypted comm, Choli sent a message.

A day earlier, the planet had been merrily going along its own way, but that was before the First Order decided it needed t be brought into the fold. By introducing law and order to the masses, the planet would prosper, both for itself and for the First Order of course.

Now, as Meneer looked, massive metal fragments and countless bits of twisted, smouldering debris lay scattered in all directions and had created giant furrows in the ground in all directions.

Chrome added the third trooper to the conversation. “We’re still not sure why the ship came so close to the ground here. There are no transmissions to state their intention, but it’s possible they could have had communications jammed and simply saw something too interesting to pass up on.”

A fourth trooper appeared from behind a small hillock. His armour was identical as was his gait. He snapped to attention in front of Meneer. “Comms off planet are tricky here for some reason. Maybe a natural phenomena or maybe something jamming my signal. I had to walk a few kilometres to receive orders.”

Meneer kept his tongue, the trooper would share information as soon as he could.

“As expected, sir. Find who did this and bring them to justice.”

Truth be told, deep down Enyo did actually feel a bit annoyed about the fact that she was being monitored this tightly. Her relationship with Archangel was complex. As far as she knew they had saved her from the terrible fate her 'evil sister' had in store for her, but their treatment had not been free of deception.

She was being held on a leash, though recently it had been loosened a bit. However, it was the closest thing to a family she had. Especially since Phaedra Amaryllis, a fellow clone, was with them. These factors contributed to keeping her loyal. She smiled slightly when she heard Avreet speak. As for Vess, the droid who looked so deceptively human stayed vigilant as ever, watching the amphibian Sith Lord.

"Thank you for the offer, but no. I should be back on my feet soon," she replied politely. "So what are your plans now? Do you intend to join the First Order and their Force-users? I believe they're called the Knights of Ren." She doubted the Sith would unconditionally submit to them though. Presumably he had his own agenda and it presently happened to align with theirs.
