Private In the wake of empires

Aielyn blinked. Just once.

The directness of it was so… undiplomatic. So him, even if she'd only just met him.

"That's all it takes?" she asked, her tone straddling disbelief and dry amusement. "A Jedi endorsement and you're ready to sign on to a potential planetary coup?"

She didn't sound offended. If anything, there was a flicker of begrudging appreciation beneath her words—wry, cautious, but there.

She folded her arms lightly across her chest, one brow arching as she studied the man. "You're either very confident, very bored, or very desperate for a new ship. Possibly all three."

Her head tilted slightly, violet-blue eyes narrowing as if weighing something. Then—

"Good. We could use someone who doesn't flinch at the idea of impossible odds."

A pause.

"Try not to make me regret it."

Jerec laughed out both sides of his neck. He'd been calling the target a Jedi, tongue in cheek (or so the human idiom went). But pointing that out could be destabilizing, and this moment seemed well calibrated, promising.

"Other than the ship, all I'll need from you is your best sense of places where he spends his time, all the detail you've got."
