Invasion of Manaan : How are you feeling?

Hey guys,

We're coming up to the halfway point that the invasion has been live. It's important we protect Manaan, it has a lot of value both in-character and out of character (cloud wise).

I want to get your feedback on some things --

OOC:
How are you feeling about it?
What would you like to see differently next time?
Think you could have done better with ___________ or knowing ________.

IC:
Does your character need help? If so, where are they.

Cheers!

I've been fighting two Sith on my own for a while. They're throwing thud and razor bugs, shooting Lazer and for gods sakes, they're throwing poison tipped spears like we're in the amazon, haha.

It's been fun, but I feel like, despite all I've managed to do in avoiding death, there are some ridiculous things going on. All in all, though, it's been very fun to write. I've just been locked up dealing with them in the Kolto facility, though.

Ive been loving it. My first fleeting, and after dealing with a few minor things im getting used to it. Of course, I was the first and only fighter engaged for a while so now my ship is in shreds and im not a whole lot of use :p still got guns on the ship though, so thats something :)

Eh, next time I'll try not to get myself stuck behind however many feet of blast doors? Granted, training in the middle of an invasion? Yeah! :D

What would you like to see differently next time?
Layout of the objectives and expectations detailed more and better in advance. More planning.

Think you could have done better with posting or knowing more Force... though nothing has actually happened to me yet.

Help? No, not that I'm aware of! I'll let y'all know if that changes, though. FYI, I'm in the generator control room.

How I felt about the invasion at first, was that it was really fun and I had a lot of muse for it.

But what everything on the ground boiled down to was one on one duels while three writers hammered me army versus army and I got destroyed because of it. I think that the republic should be more focused on RPing actual NPC forces on the ground so that we aren't swarmed in a Zerg Rush.

It got to the point where me as a fair writer knew I simply couldn't win against what was thrown at me and I would just be writing me getting beat up for another ten pages. And it's not that I care about winning it's just that it got repetitive and boring.

The sith attack

I counter

They attack with something bigger and set up preventative emplacements so I can't counter

I lose and have to fall back

I set up a new line of defense

Wash rinse lather repeat.

I feel that if we are to win invasions out writers should take it upon themselves to focus less on these duels and more on the actual logistic invasions. You can still have these powerful emotional moments like how I wrote with Patricia while still focusing on the NPC power that wins invasions. Just my two cents

Oh come on now, the pictures were meant for cheap laughs!

We might have lost, we might not.

Recoup and man up.

It was really fun to be honest.

The biggest problem was objectives weren't clearly defined and -appeared- to be one sided. (Notice: I said appeared before any alternates come on in defensive mode.)

Additionally: There appeared to be no control over how much was deployed and thrown at people. I mean, mass summons of NPC zombies, endless Vong, Walkers inside the city limits of Ahto City? I mean it was utter chaotic nonsense that could have been regulated a bit better.

I mean it though when I say this is the most fun I've had since Coruscant or rather Teta was fun too. I enjoyed the fight and story on Teta that was developed.

I have not even begun to fight.

In all honesty, I'm sorry that I joined so late. I hope the thread keeps going, because I am excited!

But I'm glad that I am in the space arena rather than ground level. There is a lot of good writing going on, but as some have already said, it just doesn't seem... fair. As in, we're not getting much respect from certain OS writers as far as being blitzed by a bunch of handwaved armies that somehow keep getting bigger and more unstoppable as the thread goes on.

I think we all know who/what I'm talking about.

Apparently, my thoughts here - found their way into the laps of the One Sith administration.

Including the specific terms of: Zerg Rush, endless Vong, ect.

*golf clap*

EDIT:

All that does is make it where people feel they cannot express themselves.

Well, I'm just going to let it be.

It is what it is.

*shrugs*

To be completely honest, I found it a bit hard to follow.....which led to some issues......which led to some editing.....and I'm just getting back into the invasion again now! :)

Overall, I would have loved to seen a split in the objective forums, as we did with Alderaan. While it makes it harder to flow from objective to objective, it allows better organization.

Also, while I am enjoying this invasion, and I enjoyed Alderaan, my favorite invasions were Carida and Empress Teta. This was partly due to the fact that there were NPCs, but the focus was on the characters fighting/RPing and not the vast hordes of NPCs. While NPCs do add story, when we are being bombarded by them in posts it makes it very difficult to follow what is happening and where.

I don't see NPCs going away, or even dying down (regretfully), so I would have to agree with [member="Patricia Susan Garter"] about having our own NPC forces brought into the mix. Perhaps designated commanding officers who are selected to lead NPC forces in a response to the NPC forces of the enemy?

I am not one to use NPCs and if I do it is typically a character here or there. But surely there are those among us who are more adept at this, or who are more willing to do this? Where is our Caesar!? Our Alexander!? What we need is a military genius to lead our NPC army against the One Sith! :D We have commanders fleeting, where are our ground forces?

All kidding aside, I think [member="Patricia Susan Garter"]'s idea is a good one and we should discuss it more.

Anyone can NPC whoever/whatever they want, really. Doesn't even have to be your character giving orders. Just like, if you're fighting a Sith who is like 'my soldiers start shooting at you as we duel' be like 'the Republic soldiers around me start shooting at the Sith soldiers now that they were distracted by the Jedi.'

At that point you've made the NPCs a wash and you can just keep dueling.

That's essentially what I like to do - I NPC enough to keep things focused on the PC v PC and then continue on my merry way.

Thank you, I do think we should have designated ground commanders to work with the opposing team to write out rules and limitations on invasions. These commanders would be in charge of our NPC forces on the ground so it'd be like fleeting but with ground and air strikes. That way people can have their duels while the actual logistic invasion can go on. I'm not saying turn it into a game of risk but more or else have these people make sure our PC characters don't get Zerg rushed

When you invade somewhere, you attack in waves. The first wave went fairly well in its surprise attack and the following reinforcement groups merely added on to chaos. It's logical for them to bring more than enough manpower to storm over any defensive emplacements that were erected.

Sneak attacks typically leave the defender unprepared to call upon reinforcements. Since I also write Mordecai Zambrano, I would've been more than willing to allow the Republic additional forces since their new fleet has arrived and would be capable of deploying ground and air superiority measures.

Alot of this has been settled/resolved/QQ'ed.

I have just been trying to prevent bridges from being burned, ect. I want people to not avoid me in terms of writing or OOC Interactions should they have an issue with something said.

I'm not like some jerkface.

:|

But it's all cool, it's like way beyond fixed now.

*shrugs* Just trying to figure out where to go next. *sighs*

Wait, we're allowed ground reinforcements now?

Time to send an army of fully equipped Republic soldiers to the generators! As long as that is within my power of course..

But seriously am I actually allowed to RP in some NPC tanks to rough up their walkers?
