Invasion of Wayland OOC Discussion

[member="Olivia Dem'adas"] Perfectly fine - we're coming up swiftly on July 4th, and for us Americans - I'm sure a lot of us will be busy.

As for myself, I'll be leaving on the 4th and will be out of town through the 6th.

[member="Taryc Ap'Irae"] I was lead to believe you two close enough to each other to both get hit, and by area effect and the strafing runs.

I am a significant amount of distance into the forest.

At least, that is based on information I have gotten from this thread.

The treeline is 1000 meters from the fort, and I am 200 meters further inside the forest than that, engaging in quick guerrilla style assaults with a sniper rifle before moving on.

So, based on my understanding of where everyone is, which I admit could be entirely wrong and I am open to correction, you will be able to attack me or Anja, but not likely both. Also, I and my forces are moving under the cover of the forest at the moment, so will be more difficult to notice than the other forces. I am not saying you can't attack me, just letting you know about my forces and movements. It is difficult for me to find my own past posts, so I don't want to make you go back and read them.

If more clarification is needed, let me know.

Sleep is a good thing, and I am a patient person.

The 4th of July is coming up, and I suck on weekends any way, so I may be a bit slow responding over the weekend, just FYI.

I glanced over her post.

she used 12x Flame Carpet Warheads, each of which dump "several square kilometers" of Napalm.

I think she friendly fired the base... a bit. We'll probably have to raise the shields and bunker down a bit until the flames die down, but that much napalm would likely turn a 12-36 kilometer area of treeline into an inferno. So... she either cleared out a massive space on one side of the base, or she just covered everything in fire.

You've use those things in multiple roleplays. What are your thoughts?

I've always left the size up to the defender with those munitions, but it does cover a lot of area. At best, that edge of the base and the jungle beyond are looking like Vietnam. At worst the edge of the woods is torched and we pull back a line or two. Either way, that's a lot of napalm.

I'll be leaving tonight and will be out of town until Sunday night, so I probably won't get a post in until sometime Monday. Just a heads up, so nobody thinks I disappeared on them.

OK, I can accept that, that is a devastating weapon.

Real quick question, though. What was the spread of the drop? Are these 12 bombs exploding all in area-unit or are they strung out a bit?

It'd probably be detrimental to the minefield, but I am pretty sure Taryc is going to be out of this fight...the only way I can think of her surviving is the fact that fire is her specialty, and even then I'm thinking she'll be getting some serious burning.

My 150 warriors in crab armor are going to burn...fire is stated as a major weakness for that armor...

I'm going to be thinking it over a bit, I'd like to see more opinions on it here, because this is a first time that I've seen this weapon in action.

[member="Taryc Ap'Irae"] tey are spread out with slight overlaps, the command made sure we each had a target spot to get most of you.
Then what was not dead, and got up too quickly got hit by a strafing run. Though the strafing run was short and sweet, as we did not want you to be able to counter.
note she can do this 5 more times before she has to land to reload

I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that you likely flamed your base, the bunkers and tanks as well.

Napalm was used by the 9th AF in WWII in anti-tank warfare and flamethrowers were also used to similar effect. Napalm burns anywhere between 800 and 1200 degrees Celsius, and while steel doesn't begin to melt until 1500 degrees Celsius, it does transfer heat extremely well, likely ensuring that people operating the tanks will be BBQ.

Napalm was also used in the Pacific theater against Japanese bunkers, pill boxes and other fortifications. It would sap air from within the bunkers. I also have some unconfirmed research that at 1000 degrees Celsius concrete would crumble. The razorwire and mines, likewise, are probably all gone along the side that was napalmed...

Unless you just did it to the forest and a little bit past it, in which it's going to start a massive forest fire.

Either way, I'm likely out of this Invasion. It's lost the fun factor for me and I'm only here for fun.

I'll make my exit post this evening, I think.

[member="Taryc Ap'Irae"] it was coordinated attack, but yes there would be possibly some friendly fire. Then again war never changes, I am sorry no longer enjoying it. Also enjoy your holiday.

I... think that much napalm probably counts as a miniature super weapon. KILOMETERS of coverage? You pretty much just torched your own men as much as ours, from the sounds of it. Fire spreads really well in a forest environment, and it's rather uncontrollable.
