- Cargo Hauler: Designed primarily around hauling sanctioned Imperial cargo around the Sith Empire, the Iota possesses quite the abundant hold space enough for several tonnes of materials and raw goods. Several Iotas were repurposed for prisoner transfer and had modifications made to the interior hold for the separation of prisoners and guards.
- Fast Hyperdrive: Because of the vital nature of trade and transport within the Empire, the Iotas were given high-grade hyperdrives that could move them across space and time faster than the average transport or battleship.
- Low Armament: Though possessing five laser cannons, the Iota was not meant to be a combative starship and thus has no real capability to fight back if attacked. However, an Iota typically travels with some form of escort in areas where piracy and banditry were more prevalent.
- Low Squadron Count: An Iota only travels in a squadron of one, itself. Because of this, escorts are often dolled out to Iotas maneuvering through more lawless areas beyond the borders of Imperial Space.
Following the creation of the Sith-Imperial Field Secured Container Vessel and the Vicar-class Cargo Frigate, the Iota-class Heavy Shuttle was a smaller, more maneuverable, cargo hauler dedicated for short-distance journies through Imperial territory, supporting war fleets as supply ships, and even being utilized as prison transports.
The Iota could hold a maximum of forty individuals alongside several tonnes of cargo, chiefly to protect the hold in the event of a pirate boarding party or other unsightly brigand raids.
Powerful ion engines allowed the Iota to move and maneuver quite expertly through the vacuum of space, while its four stabilizing wings kept it just as maneuverable in atmospheric environments. Five cannons, two wing-mounted and three hull-mounted, offered some offensive protection against enemy craft, but its main defense came from its robust deflector shields, reinforced hull, and an array of electronic countermeasures.
The design of the Iota was also something uncommon to the traditional Imperial architectural design, with harsher angles, a darker hull, and red-tinted viewports and ancillary lights.
