“I’m sorry it didn’t work out between you. Hopefully she is okay.”

As he spoke she wondered what it was like to find someone and be attracted to them naturally instead of through an arrangement. Perhaps she’d always known this would be her life because she had gone out of her way to suppress any feelings that weren’t conducive to position in the kingdom. Her older sisters had been far more bold than she had. She remembered that most of them had snuck off to see boyfriends in the night, threatening Anavi if she told their secrets. She had never done anything so brazen and now she wondered if she had truly lost her chance. Maybe not though. Caelan was taking her someone new so already she was going to experience more than she had in her old life.

Still she had so many questions about her future and she felt compelled to ask them now while she had his attention, not knowing that this might be the norm in his kingdom.

“What will I do on Lazerian IV? On Kashir the wives of the king don’t seem to have a lot of responsibility except raising children and plotting for the crown. What does the kings wife do on your planet?”

"I am only sorry that I do not know if she is alright," he said.

He did not regret that things didn't work out because if they had he wouldn't be with Anavi now. The Force had a way of working things out over time that they didn't feel would happen. In this case, it had brought them together even though he had believed that would never happen and she had never considered it. That was life at times.

When she asked about her duties he smiled.

"Similar to mine. We both lead, not just me. We're partners, not a dominant pair. I know that's different from Kashir and will take some getting used to for you, but I'm sure you will in time. You can make decisions just the same as I can, and guide our people as well. If there are things you think our people need, then you have the freedom to see those things come to fruition. Of course, if all you wish to do is raise children I won't stop you from doing that. It's your decision how active a role you take."

His mother had given up being a Jedi to spend more time with him and Kita, but both her and their father had raised them. There wasn't any delegated tasks, they both just did what needed to be done.

"Devit is a lot different from Kashir. Less male dominant."

Anavi had never considered being a ruler of a planet before. Even if her father selected her as his heir to the throne that meant her husband would eventually lead the planet. That was why it was so important for women to find good matches and remain dignified before they did so. Now however she was looking at the prospect of being in charge of an entire group of people. She was accustomed to being a leader in many ways, but never really a ruler. She wondered if she would be up to the task at hand. She also wondered if she would still be able to help her own world. She seemed to be the only one who wanted to push the crime syndicates off of the planet. Her people were suffering and her father seemed to ignore it. She'd never really though of him as a bad ruler, or even a bad father for that matter, but today's events had shocked her to the core and that shock was causing her to consider some truly unpleasant realities.

"Did my father offer you anything for me when he made the deal?" She was wondering what exactly Caelan and his kingdom got out of this, not realizing of course that the answer was herself. Tor-Mak was a perceptive man and he'd picked up on Caelans feelings for Anavi when they were still children. Offering Anavi not only aligned Kashir with the Kingdom of Devit, it got rid of Anavi without costing him much. It was an elegant solution to Tor-Mak's problem but Anavi didn't know all the detials and since she was on a question spree she figured she may as well ask.

She also wanted to ask how soon they had to be married and how soon they had to have children but just thinking about it made her stomach tight so she hadn't approached that yet. She'd been an adult less than twenty four hours and did not feel remotely ready to raise a child yet.

rhXV2kO.png

"Just you," he responded.

Which was more than enough. He needed nothing else and wanted nothing else. What could Kashir offer him? It was a world run by crime syndicates that was outside of the control of the Alliance and so remained a pariah. Their wealth? He didn't need that. Devit had its own wealth and it was only growing as they expanded their export of medical goods and services to the galaxy by way of their proximity to the Harrin trade corridor. If anything, they would shortly have more fiscal power than Kashir did.

He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it lightly. She was all he cared about in the deal. Truth be told, he did wander about her people, and he had questions about the whole thing, but he didn't want to upset her further by bringing it up just then. He would ask her at a later time, when they had relaxed and she could wind down from the whole ordeal.

And maybe he would initiate his own investigations. He had friends who were good at that.

"Nothing he could have offered me would have mattered. I only ever wanted to be with you."

Anavi smiled at his answer but it did leave a troubled feeling in her stomach. It wasn't his feelings that troubled her, but the fact that her father seemed to get nothing out of the deal except sending her away. Maybe that was the point? What had she stumbled onto? She didn't want to get into it just now but she wasn't done with it, that was for sure. If this was going to be her life she wanted to know why. She just didn't want to push it right now. Today had been hard enough and she found herself wishing to discuss lighter things and just take her mind off it.

"Today has been a mess." She signed and lay on her back, staring up at the ships ceiling. "I'm just over it." When she spoke like this she sounded more like the friend he'd remember from when she was little. Away from the prying eyes of parents and royal duties Anavi had been clever, confident and competitive in childhood games. She'd simply been free during those rare times and she found herself missing them slightly.

"So we are going to a deserted island? Isn't the crew coming? Have you been there before?"
Her eyes were now alive with curiosity. She'd only been to a handful of places and she was legitimately excited to see more of the galaxy.

He couldn't help but laugh a bit at what she said. That was like the Anavi he saw when they were playing as kids. When she was done with something she really let you know she was done with it. There was no mincing words. So yeah, it was easy for him to see that she was really glad to be done with the whole ordeal, at least for now. They didn't have to deal with her father, or all the people pestering them with questions about a wedding and kids and everything in between. They could just go and relax. Alone.

"Yeah, my parents bought an island on Maramere a while back," he answered. "I think my father intended to build a manse there but he never did. And no, the crew won't be staying. They'll go to one of the cities and have some down time of their own until we call them."

The whole point was to be alone. No responsibilities. Nobody asking them for direction. Nothing but them, surviving together, learning to live together in advance of actually having to do so as a married couple. It would give them some real time to connect and get to know one another more as a couple rather than just as the friends they'd grown up as.

"Don't worry, it's safe. There's no nasty creatures on the island and we can build a shelter easy enough. It'll be fun, just the two of us, the beach and the sea."

Anavi grinned at the thought of total and complete freedom from other people. It seemed like just what was needed right now. Nobody would be pestering her with questions she couldn't answer or things she didn't want to do. They could just hang out and she would get to see a new place. Plus it was nice the crew would get downtime too. She was sure they appreciated that.

"It sounds magnificent. Sort of like survival training with the Jedi. I've done some of that. We went into the mountains of Kashir for that."

There was a knock on the door and she flinched, grabbing the blanket around her and pulling it up to her chin again. It was going to take a little getting used to, for sure. A male voice spoke from the other end of the door.

"I am sorry to disturb your majesties but King Tor-Mak has sent another message requested Anavi contact him."

Her bright blue eyes narrowed for a second and she felt a rush of defiance that was a new feeling for her. All of the anger from the events of today seemed to finally be hitting her and though she knew she ought to be a dutiful daughter all she could think of was the fact that she'd been traded away like a collectable toy.

"I do NOT want to talk to him." She glanced at Caelan and frowned. "Is that okay?" It felt weird to be making this decision herself but she felt like it was the right one. She had meant it when she said she was done with this mess for now.

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

"Mountains are cold, though," Caelan said with a small smile. "Island will be quite warm. Cooling off will involve mostly sitting in the shade or swimming. Too much clothing and you'll get sunstroke, which is why what you have on IS actually appropriate."

A knock came at the door and he frowned. Tor-Mak was being aggressive. It wasn't an overprotectiveness. Caelan had seen a severe lack of that both in his actions in giving her away in arranged marriage and in how he had spoken when the two had conversed earlier. There was something more at play in all of this and he really just wanted to tell Tor-Mak to take a hike. Unless Anavi wanted to go back to Kashir, she didn't have to, and he had given the man a perfectly acceptable response in telling him to send an attendant to Lazerian for her.

But he didn't have to answer as Anavi herself spoke up and said to tell him she didn't want to speak with him. That was surprising, and the look of shock was written all over his face as she turned to him to ask if that was alright. But he nodded and grinned.

"Yes, quite so. He's your father, you're an adult, you've a right to tell him you don't wish to speak with him. Though, I may suggest you send him a voice transmission when we land just to let him know you're alright and that you just wish for some time alone."

If nothing else, that would keep him from sending out a goon squad after them. Caelan didn't relish the idea of having to deal with them in a combat fashion, though he certainly could.

"I like that side of you, my Emberheart."

She heard the crew man shuffle behind the door as she and Caelan spoke, and then the male crew member spoke too.

"As you wish Princes. I will tell King Tor-Mak you will contact him when we land." She then heard him retreating from the door. It was all very strange. If this had been Kashir they would have scolded her and told her how she was supposed to act as a princess. On Kashir she basically had people telling her what to do every second of every day.

She watched the door for a few seconds, as if making up her mind about something, but then she turned her attention back to Caelan. It was obvious she had just dismissed the entire thing, indicating she really did not want to deal with her father right now. She felt a bit guilty about it but she also was not the type to dwell on things once a decision was made. Instead she turned their conversation back to the island as if there had been no interruption.

"Well I'm still not sure about walking around half naked, but sun stroke doesn't really sound fun either."
She giggled at his nickname and grinned. "Are we busting out pet names now? I'll have to come up with a good one for you." She laughed and sat up on the bed, letting the blanket fall a little and sit around her waist instead, obviously getting slightly more comfortable in the room.

"So I guess this is like our first date huh?"

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

He made no comment about the half-naked thing. In his eyes she wasn't. She was fully clothed, even if she was showing some skin. Given where they were headed, and probably almost were, that lack of covering was going to be better for her anyway. Not that they wouldn't be wearing sun-tan lotion to prevent burning. They had plenty of that aboard, he was sure of it. He did not want to be turning into a red monstrosity on their first outing together and he was certain she didn't either.

But when she sat up and let the blanket fall away, he did stare a bit. It wasn't that he hadn't ever seen women that way before, it was just that he'd never seen HER that way before. He liked it. He loved her, but he liked seeing her. Nobody deserved to have her under the circumstances. Nobody that her father would arrange for her to be with.

"I'm going to be honest," he said as he let his eyes drifted up to hers. "I've always called you that in my head. I rarely ever thought of you using your name."

That was kind of the point of pet names, though. They showed the person that you cared for them, and usually the name was endemic of some nature about them that you care for. Emberheart spawned because she'd captured his heart and she had a fire within her that was just an ember that needed to be kindled into a flame and she could be someone amazing, someone who could truly change the galaxy for the better. He'd always thought the best of her, even if her family hadn't.

"Yes, I suppose it's our first date. Our first unchaperoned one, at least. You could argue that the party was the first date. But, I'll be honest, I'd prefer the peace and quiet to just talk with you over the party any day. I want to get deeper into who you are as a person, what drives you. I want to know everything about what you want to be so I can help make it happen."

Fate beeped from outside the room that they had about ten minutes until reversion.

"I've always called you that in my head. I rarely ever thought of you using your name."

"Really?" She laughed at that sentiment, finding it interesting that someone could refer to you as something totally different in their mind and you might never even know. She supposed it made sense. She had all sorts of nicknames for her chaperones and servants back home. She certainly hopped "grumpy guy with a limp" never found out that's what she thought of him as! She had never thought to give Caelan a nickname before but honestly they hadn't seen that much of each other after being children. As they grew older they each had duties to attend to and then with the events on his kingdom he had been forced into adulthood way earlier than Anavi. She remembered her father calling off their annual trip to Devit shortly after that and had always figured it was because of fear of the syndicates and their continued activities. Now however, when she saw Caelan staring at her she realized it might have been because her father had realized Caelan had grown up long before she ever had. She felt herself blush at his staring, and fidgeting with the blanket in her lap. It wasn't that she didn't have those types of feelings towards him per say, it was more that she'd never really had those feelings towards anybody at all. She had always tried to be the perfect daughter, in some hope of earning her fathers approval and keeping her mother happy. Anavi was her mothers only child, so if she screwed up that was it for Miri. The other children gave everybody a hard enough time as it was, so Anavi had always been an angel. Now she didn't really know what to be.

"You can ask me whatever you want. I'll try to answer."

She heard the beeping at the door and smiled. "You can come in Fate." The door opened and the little droid came in and Anavi waved to it.

"I'm going to have to learn to talk to Fate. What is he saying?"

((can edit if you don't like me controlling Fate coming in))

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

"Yes, really," he said with a smile.

Not uncommon, he didn't think. Coming up with nicknames for others was often used as a way of remembering who people were. It helped him when it came down to remembering people's names. Given how many people he met over the course of a single day, normally, it was difficult to keep everyone straight so he had to come up with a variety of methods in order to remember them as best he could. Even then he didn't really remember all of them.

"I'll save my questions for when we arrive."

The beeping at the door was noted, and he was about to tell her what Fate had said, but she let him in. The droid shuffled his little self in and the door closed behind him. Then he took a good look at the two of them on the bed.

"Bwoo-OOO! Dwooo-beep bwoo-dweet, bwee-dwoop beep-dwoop?"

Caelan almost choked on his own saliva.

"Nothing! Cut it out, Fate! Jeez. We've just been talking."

He sat upright and then climbed off the bed before reaching down to grab his shoes. Little terror, that droid. Sometimes he didn't know whether to love him or want to punt him. Ok, well, he always loved him. Fate was great.

"Ignore him. He think's he's being funny. He did say we have about ten minutes until reversion, so I'm going to get ready unless you need anything?"

Anavi laughed at Caelan's reaction to Fate and how it made him jump up and get his shoes. "What did he say?" She eyed Fate with a smile. She really liked the droid. If she'd had a droid companion back home it would have cut down on the dull loneliness a lot.

"You can go get ready. I guess I'm ready... or will be as soon as I pick some of your sisters shoes to wear." She stood up and glanced back at the bed, seemingly trying to decide if she wanted to bring the blanket with her. She would have to get some of her own clothes over to Devit, otherwise she was worried the entire galaxy might see her on the holo looking like this, and even though she wasn't currently speaking to her father she didn't want to enrage him.

The thought of her father made her remember she was supposed to send him a message and she sighed. "Can Fate help me send that message home?"

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

"He implied we were doing something we weren't," Caelan said, shaking his head. "Thought he was being funny."

With shoes in hand he headed for the door, but stopped near it to look down at Fate in a scolding manner, though it was only half-hearted. Honestly, he didn't mind the teasing that much. It was meant to be lighthearted and it was just the droid being his goofy self. Caelan couldn't ever stay mad at Fate anyway. He was always too happy and fun to be around.

"He can record your message and transmit it, yes. Probably easier to do it here than going to the bridge anyway. I'll go get changed and then meet you down in the speeder bay. Fate can show you how to get there."

He smiled at her and then went to get changed into a more beach appropriate outfit. He decided to go with a set of nice sandals rather than boat shoes, though. Sandals were easier to get sand out of, plus his feet wouldn't get as sweaty in them as they might in boat shoes. His shorts were swimming apparel as well, so he'd be able to dive in whenever he felt like it without having to worry about getting changed, which was good because he didn't want to be getting fully undressed in front of Anavi just yet.

When he was situated, he head for the speeder bay and started working with the crew to load one of the airspeeders with some provisions. They wouldn't be going in completely unprepared, just in case.

Anavi laughed at what Fate said. She thought the droid was charming. Once Caelan left she decided to record the voice message home, though honestly she really did not want to.

“Hi Mom, it’s me Anavi. I just wanted to let you know I am safe. Caelan thinks it’s a good idea to get to know each other since we are arranged now. Please don’t worry. I’ll talk to you soon.”

She really wasn’t sure what to say but those were the words that came out. She had nothing to say to her father just yet so the message was entirely directed to her mother.

“Which shoes should I wear Fate?”

The droid helped her pick a pair of sandals to go with the outfit. She couldn’t believe that even his sisters shoes showed off skin. It was overwhelming, but then that was basically her whole life now. She opened the door of the room and peaked outside, but Fate hopped forward to lead the way and she finally had to step out. She was awkward the entire way, feeling air on her exposed midriff create goosebumps. Fate was hopping along happily though and the site made her smile. She really liked the little droid.

Eventually she met Caelan and flinched again at what he was wearing. He was practically naked too! The crew didn’t seem to think it was weird though. Nobody was awkwardly staring or chastising him.

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

In point of fact, nobody was awkwardly staring at either of them. Outside of Kashir, and the few societies like it, it was common to see people wearing a wide variety of garb. True, certain circumstances warranted more clothing than others. You wouldn't walk into a snowstorm wearing what they were wearing, neither would you the senate. But in warmer climates? At beaches? Heck, some people went completely naked on the beach. He never understood why people were so willing to show off of everything they had so blatantly, but to each their own.

"Hey,"
he said when the two of them appeared. "Get your message out?"

They'd dropped out of hyperspace and were inside of the atmosphere at this point. Easiest thing to do to avoid prying eyes was to get them to their island via airspeeder. Caelan had been taking lessons, and given there wasn't much traffic on Maramere, it seemed a safe place for him to be able to fly them. They'd finished loading it up with some supplies, so he helped Fate up inside and then offered his hand to Anavi to help her in.

"Ready? Several days to ourselves on the sandy beach?"

"Ready? Several days to ourselves on the sandy beach?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." She smiled but she had to admit she was excited. It was a new place and she wanted to see it. She also just wanted to be away from her father right now so this seemed as good as place to do that as any. She took his hand and got up in the speeder. As they zoomed away it was weird to be so alone with nobody around them.

"Oh its beautiful."
She commented on the scenery. It was lush and tropical and looked nothing like any of the spaces on Kashir. She grinned, despite her reservations as she was starting to have fun.

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

Maramere was far different from the majority of Lazerian or Kashir. Tropical. Birds flying through the air that were vibrantly colored. The airspeeder itself didn't even seem out of place in such a setting. His piloting wasn't that bad, either, as he kept them on a straight course towards the marked location on the holomap that was their destination. Seemed his lessons were paying off. Well, at least paying off enough that he could be trusted to fly an airspeeder in uncrowded airspace. He still needed more flight time for anything else.

"Sure is," he agreed.

Fate was standing on his tippy toes, so to speak, and peering out through the glass himself. "Bwoo-OOO!"

Caelan chuckled and lowered them down toward a small island in the middle of the sea. There was a decent area of beach and he settled the airspeeder down upon it, lowering the landing gear before letting the repulsorlifts go and shutting the transport down. He took a look out through the viewport, but it was nice and sunny, so no need to worry about much.

"Probably want to head over to the shade of the trees an then put some sunscreen on."

He unbuckled and popped the hatch before climbing down and offering his hand to help her, and then Fate, exit the craft. He already had the sunscreen because he'd grabbed some from the supplies before they took off. Better to have it on hand than have to rummage through it under the sun.

It was hard to tell who was more excited, Anavi or Fate. She laughed at the droid as it exclaimed about the view, or so she thought thats what it was saying. She really needed to learn how to speak to Fate. As they started moving more she started to see birds, which were so beautiful and multi colored. It made her wish she had her sketchpad so she could draw them. There were small ones, large ones, even some that looked like they could win in a fight against some of the beasts on Kashir. It was amazing.

They parked and got out of the speeder and she followed Fate over to the shade. It was really sunny here and the sand itself was even warm. She understood now why people weren't wearing a ton of clothes. They were already sweating just from the small walk to the shade. She supposed it made sense now the way Kita dressed for this place. It was still uncomfortable but at least she understood the point.

They started to put on the sunscreen that would hopefully protect their skin. Anavi was very pale and knew she burned easily. She'd already gotten sunburns a lot when they were kids so she was no stranger to them. She laughed at Fate bouncing around as if he was waiting for sunscreen too.

"I don't think you need any little guy."

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren

rhXV2kO.png

"She's right, you don't," he said as he watched the droids antics for a moment before getting as much of himself as he could.

Fate made a sound similar to an awww and hung his head, but then quickly bounded off to explore the beach as if it didn't even phase him. Probably because it didn't. He knew he didn't need sunscreen, he was just being a goob.

Least he didn't burn as bad as she did. Red hair and fair skin was a disaster in the sunlight. He took some of the suntan lotion and walked over to her and began to gently apply it to her skin where she couldn't reach. His hands, despite being calloused from working out and combat, with the exception of the prosthetic, were gentle. He was careful to only apply it where she couldn't apply herself, and where she wouldn't feel too uncomfortable with him applying it.

"When we're done with you I'm going to have you do my back if that's alright."

When he had finished doing what she needed, he grabbed the edges of his shirt and took it off. Even with the shirt on he could still burn, plus he intended to not wear it all that much because it got in the way and he wanted it dry for the evening when the air was cooler.

"After this we can gather wood for a fire and some fishing spears."
