Katarine understood the pressure that family could bring. Her own family life was complicated but she had met many padawans that wanted to live up to someone in their family. Her first padawan Mist had wanted to live up to her uncle. The memory made her smile.

"We all must walk our own path. You will find yours and it will be yours to follow. Jonyna has her own, but trust in the Force and you will find yours. You were sent here for a reason. Tell me... what type of Jedi do you want to be? What do you see in your path now?"

"I think the path of a Guardian is a noble calling. If you feel skilled with the lightsaber it might indeed be your path. Time will let us know."

She pulled out her datapad and scanned some of the files for the mission they were going to investigate.

"It seems the weapons were stolen at night. The thief managed to get into the facility and past some pretty advanced security features. What do you think that tells u?"

Nir peared over to the datapad himself, the curiosity of a Cathar showing. "That they knew what they were doing? I'm no thief, but if they took down pretty well laid out security, they have to be a pretty skilled one, yeah? What kind of security systems did they get passed?"

Katarine was thinking along the same lines as her new padawan was. These thieves were skilled and technologically advanced.

“The system had a main security system that would lock the facility down if tripped. There was a backup system too but it looks like for some reason it wasn’t activated. When their technical analyst reviewed the footage all of the security cameras had been taken offline. Clearly these guys know a thing or two about tech.”

Katarine of course was a century behind today’s technology. She still had trouble getting her data pad to turn on.

“We can’t rule out that this was an inside job either. Very few people would know about the back up system. I think we should start there and also look at tech workers and anybody involved in the installation of the system. We may also want to start thinking about who would need the weapons. They stole a bunch of high powered lasers usually used to cut diamonds and hard stone. Not exactly what I would reach for if I was just any mercenary. When we land we can start questioning and see if anybody saw anything.”

She frowned, thinking about this when the captain of the shuttle announced they should strap in for landing.

“Here we go.”

She closed her eyes and frowned. Kat really hated flying.

"I know a family lineage can be intimidating. I have struggled before by constantly comparing myself to other Jedi, but Master Vanagor taught me that you have to focus on being you. The Force made you the way you are for a reason. You will be a different type of Jedi and thats okay."

She sat back in her chair and watched him with those deep green eyes.

"What type of Jedi do you want to be? If you ignore all of what is expected of you and could pick your own path. What do you see?"

That...was a queston Nir hadn't considered.

"A hero." He answered after a moment of thought. "Flashy, over the top, but...humble. Ya know? Someone that can save the day, and look cool doing it, but also someone you can ask to help...I dunno, move a couch or something. I wanna be the rock star that rules the radio, but also the guy who stands tall with the rest of the jedi."

As Katarine listened she couldn't help but fathom how the Jedi had changed in the century since Order 66. Before a Jedi would never dream of being anything but a Jedi, but now she met Jedi with all sorts of hobbies and interests. It was a lot to adjust too but it seemed to make them more well rounded people.

"Let me ask you... why not just be a rock star? Is it your family that drove you to the Jedi...? What drives you to pursue two such different identities?"

She wanted to elaborate but the pilot mentioned they should strap in for landing. They would be arriving soon.

Nir was quick to follow the pilot's orders, while pondering the answer he would give. Katarine wasn't the first to ask him that. His last master did the same.

"...because it's the right thing to do. I could just be a selfish rock star, look out for myself, but...I've got the gift of the Force. I can help people, and...I should. It's obvious. Wish more folks out there realized how obvious it was."

Katarine smiled at the young feline. “The nice thing about something so obvious is even if people are too thick to see it, the obvious still remains true. Never forget that. It matters what’s in your heart and I think a desire to help people is a good thing for a Jedi to have.”

They strapped in and had a pretty smooth landing all things considered. Kat hated flying so she was a little tense but when they finally touched down she let out a sigh of relief.

They exited the ship and were greeted by three people waiting for them. A Bothan, and two humanoids. The Bothan is who spoke.

“Master Jedi, thank you so much for coming. I am Dal See, the executive security officer for Curo Tech. I will be helping you today.”

“Thank you for having us. This is my padawan Nir Si. We are both here to assist however we can.”

They started to walk towards the factory and Katarine whispered to her padawan.

“Keep your eyes open. Be mindful of what you see.”

Nir nodded as his master spoke. He had a feeling they'd get along nicely.

As they touched down, Nir's feline eyes and ears adjusted to the new atmosphere. Bothan, two humans. He made a note of everything he saw, quiet and observing. What was normally a boisterous rock star now was a quiet spy. The wind carried sound better than most, and he knew he needed to keep sharp.

Weapons had been stolen, but the boy had neglected to ask what kind. Was it an inside job? Hmmm....

As they walked Katarine felt reassured that Nir was keeping his eyes open. It helped her to focus on the conversation with the security officer.

"Dal See, what type of weapons were stolen?"

"Oh a few high powered lazes that cut diamond and stone. It's odd since they weren't really new weapons. The firm has had them for a few years. We mostly used them when we were expanding the building into the rock behind us."

"I see, so they are not weapons you manufactured to sell?"

"No, in fact I don't even know if calling them weapons is accurate. They are more like construction tools."

"I see. Who would know you have these tools?"

As they walked and talked if Nir was keeping a sharp eye he would see one of the employees, dressed in uniform, looking very nervous to see Dal See talking to two Jedi. It was a young Twi'lek girl and she looked almost like she was frightened. She looked like she wanted to go over and talk to the Jedi but something was keeping her away.

Without a word, Nir did something he had a knack for.

The air stirred, and the girl could hear his voice in her ear.

You can hear me, and I can hear you. Whatever you got to say, you can whisper it. I'll hear you, and no one else.

The boy kept walking alongside his master, but his ear shifted to the girl. Benefit of being a Cathar, he has incredibly good hearing. Usually he used to to do things like tune his guitar, but now he used it for a purpose.

Dal See was answering Katarine's question about who had knowledge of the tools.

"Unfortunately several people. The contractors who completed the work, the company we ordered them from, the shippers who brought them. It was a major renovation project. We brought in a team to help design the new office space too so designers as well."

"I'll need a list of all the people associated with the project."

"Of course Master Jedi."

Meanwhile the girl who looked so uncertain jumped slightly as she heard a voice in her ear. She saw the Cathar trailing behind slightly and looked at him. That must be his voice because the other Jedi was female and this was a males voice.

"I... shouldn't.... I can't lose this job. My mom.... you see... she's sick. Medical bills..." As she spoke her hands deftly worked the assembly line as if she'd done this a long time.

"But.... workers keep disappearing. Dal See calls them into his office... and.... he says he transfers them but.... I never see them again. I'm scared something bad happens to them... "

"You can trust me, I'm a jedi." He said that with an honest conviction. "I'll talk to my master about it, okay? And...if you do lose your job, I can help with those bills. I know someone who would happily pay those for you."

He didn't like asking his clan for money, especially the newly minted Sentinel of Harmony...but...

He also knew better than to withhold help. Jonyna was the type of person to do that, and he knew all he would need to do is ask. It as the cathar way, after all.

Slowly walking back towards his master, he idly put a hand on her shoulder, letting her know he needed to talk.

Katarine was listening to details about security, such as where the cameras were located and how long they stored footage. They were lead into the security office when suddenly Nir put his hand on her shoulder.

She raised her eyebrow at him but figured he wanted to speak alone so she addressed those with them.

“We will start here. We can review the security footage and see if anything was recorded. We might get lucky.”

Dal See looked pleased by this idea.

“Of coursewe. Let us know if you need anything.”

He and his two companies lest Kat and Nir in the tiny little office.

“We likely won’t get anything off the cameras. Whoever did this will have erased them. What did you want to tell me Nir?”

"Got a lead."
He said a few moments after the others left them. Looking around the office, the boy frowned. "That twi'lek we passed. She said that they called folks to the office but she never saw them again. I've got a bad feeling about this, ya know? Something isn't right. Mining equipment stolen, missing employees...You think this could be an inside job?"

Katarine listened as Nir described about missing employees. She nodded when he voiced his suspicions of an inside job.

“I think you might be right. Del See was a little too happy to leave us in here with the security footage, almost like he knows it’s a dead end. The call that reported the missing equipment didn’t even come from him, but he must have known. I think he might be our main suspect. “

She frowned and thought for a moment.

“I think we need to search the factory and talk to workers. See if we can figure out where they take the missing ones. What do you think?”

"He certainly thinks it'll be a dead end." Nir posited, looking to the screens. "But footage like this is always gonna lead to some interesting places." Nir paused, thinking for a moment. "...what if instead of looking at past footage, we looked at...current footage? Cameras all have microphones in them nowadays, yeah?"
