Jedi & Marriage

Carlyle Rausgeber said:
I know for a fact the Silver Jedi explicitly purged their ranks of Darksiders who had latched onto that were booted.
We didn't "purge" anyone. When we decided to go back to being a lightside order all darksiders were given a choice; strive to redeem yourself or kindly move on. We didn't round up all darksiders against a wall to have them shot or anything. But that's not what we're here to discuss. :p

As for Jedi marriage, it's actually quite the common sight here on Chaos. Of course in legends canon the most well-known example is Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. I can only speak from my own character's point-of-view when it comes to love and marriage.

It's easy to take a page out of the prequel trilogy when writing a "traditional" Jedi with no emotional attachments whatsoever, but when I write a Jedi I always try and write them as a person first and foremost. A person has dreams, aspirations, interests, and even emotions. That's what I use as a foundation when I make a character, then I add the Jedi components. Add to this the fact that Thurion was raised by a rather unorthodox Jedi who even adopted him.

His personal beliefs is that love is not an inherently corruptive emotion like the Jedi Order of old so often preached, but he doesn't go around telling people who do believe it is that they're wrong. He is also a great admirer of Luke Skywalker (same as I, what a coincidence!) and adapted his New Jedi Code as his own, with a few changes here and there. Of course, getting married was not something he set out to do, nor was falling in love. That stuff just happened on its own - as it should - and who is he to fight fate? ;)

TL;DR - It depends on which Jedi Order you join, with some being more strict than others. Ultimately, however, the choice is yours. :)

[member="Thurion Heavenshield"] - Thanks for the clarification.

Kind of decided to leave the Jedi Order I joined ambiguous. It's not too important since I will have been banished from their Order from the point that I start writing anyway, and I didn't want to make any kind of bad impression on any Order in particular. I may get into specificities as I develop her character, but when I start writing, I like to leave my backstory vague so I can fill in the gaps as I see fit and give room for adjustment. Hope that's okay with you.

[member="Kahranna"] Looks fine to me, and your view on the Jedi via your character is your right to write and air. It just gives your character the drive to do what she does, and so there's nothing wrong with that! Good luck out there, and keep the questions coming if you need help any time. :)

There's the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. DragonsFlame, Joshua DragonsFlame and [member="Shmi Labooda"] as well, also in the Silver Jedi.

It's probably best to keep the Order name ambiguous, yeah. Or even just claim that you joined an unnamed Order that was against marriage. God knows we've had Orders like that here and there, even if many don't last very long.

Your question's probably been answered pretty well, but I'm still gonna throw my two cents in.

The New Jedi Order is quite likely the most liberal Jedi order at the moment. We don't have a central code everybody has to follow -- we just aren't allowed to use the Dark Side. If you follow that rule, you're practically OK to do whatever. The Galactic Alliance also allows lightsided and neutral Force users who still want to be the good guys but who don't want to be officially in the Jedi Order.

While my character, Commander Firestorm, isn't married he did have an emotional attachment to a Jedi General during the Clone Wars. So I think if you want to have a marriage it would be fine in most cases.
