He nodded in a sort of agreement on her summary. "Pretty close, yeah. It is kind of hard to explain really well." he answered, then smiled again at her comment about the issue of mass, "Oh very much so! A lot of us will keep dense pockets of material to pull from in case, but that still means your mass doesn't change. Some of it is just sitting unused. But when you are actually force sensitive and properly trained you can sort of...pull in mass from the force. It's not without cost, it's a lot more exhausting than other methods. But you can do it. As a result, it's a lot easier for us to reach much greater sizes, such as a gundark, while actually being able to function like a gundark. Otherwise you have to kind of supplement everything with more complex structures and you just end up being weak or fragile for your size. More human like bodies, while adaptable, are not ideal for combat. So it's often better to take on a more appropriate form if forced into a survival or combat scenario."

Thea tilted her head, a small furrow forming between her brows as she absorbed his explanation. "That's… wild," she admitted, clearly intrigued. "So it's not just about changing your shape, but making sure the mass and density work with you rather than against you. I'd always thought shapeshifting was just a cosmetic thing, a trick to deceive, but you're talking about something way more intricate. A balance between form and function."

Her fingers tapped lightly on her thigh as she spoke, her mind working through the implications. She smirked, leaning forward a little. "But drawing mass from the Force? That's got to take some serious focus. I'm guessing you'd have to be one hell of a fighter to pull it off mid-battle without losing control or getting exhausted too quickly."

Another enthusiastic nod of agreement at her first talk, "Our biology experience enhances the ability even further. Though in fairness for clawdites, they do a remarkable job for having impermanent shifting." he answered. Which, he felt, was true. Clawdites temporary shapeshifting meant they needed constant attention, he didn't, he could shift and leave it be. Because now he simply was what he shifted into, with all the advantages and drawbacks that could bring him.

"Oh yes," He affirmed on her next comment, "I even try not to overdo it. I'm very good at most of the shapeshifting, but trying to draw in mass mid-combat is a real risk. It can still be done, but best to be done with care. Besides it's usually avoidable, most of us prefer to do more combat viable changes if the fight has already started. Even better if we do it before hand, like," He held one of his hands out in the open, the skin began to crack at points, but instead of blood or dry skin, scales emerged, overlapping each other until his hand was engulfed in a number of red scales of an Osor, "It's relatively easy, has few drawbacks, and provides essentially an irremovable armor until we change back." his enjoyment of discussing the shifting with someone was incredibly obvious. However well known the skill may be for other shapeshifters of his home, he still derived so much enjoyment from the spread of related knowledge.

She gestured to his scaled hand, her eyebrows raised in appreciation. "That's a nice trick. An Osor, huh? Bet that armor comes in handy when things get rough. Must feel good to know you have a literal layer of protection you can call on anytime." Thea tilted her head, curiosity driving her questions. "But I'm guessing that isn't the only trick you've got up your sleeve. Is there a limit to what you can change into?"

"Very handy! It's honestly kind of a go to for a lot of my people who can do it." he explained, the species he was mimicking was after-all quite literally designed for combat. The next question was a bit harder to answer but he still tried, "Well...there's some, for one, beyond basic shifting. A lot of it comes down to our own knowledge, if I don't know how it works, and how to do the process, I probably can't do it. And the more complex the change itself, the harder. So for example, it's easy to take mammalian forms, reptilians aren't too hard either. But shifting to an insectoid genuinely would be a lot harder. So I usually just use traits. Scales for example can be easily replicated without a major change in my physiology. But I could quite literally kill myself if I do something wrong, since the Vo outright changes the body, not just moves it around, it's possible to just...change out a vital organ. And die. Or accidentally pierce the Vo or an organ while creating a new bone or moving an old one. Two other big issues is the difficulty of maintaining our own intelligence and mind, the brain harbors so much that the process of making any differences there has to be cautious to the extreme. The other important note is that the Vo itself simply cannot be safely or consistently changed. So there's a sort of size limit as well."

Thea listened closely, her brow furrowing in intrigue as he went into detail about the complexities of shifting. It was a lot to take in, but she found herself fascinated. "You know, I'd never realized there were so many intricacies to it. I mean, it makes sense that there would be a need for that level of knowledge and caution. If you're outright changing your body, it sounds like each shift has the potential to go wrong in a thousand different ways."

Her tone was curious but respectful, showing she wasn't out to dig for trauma, just to understand. "I can't even begin to imagine having to balance all those elements at once. Even more so with the brain—you can't take anything about it for granted, can you?"

She tilted her head, her fiery gaze on him, entirely captivated. "The fact that you can even replicate scales without shifting everything is remarkable. And you mentioned a size limit. Does that mean there are things you simply can't do, no matter how much you know about them? Could you mimic something small and harmless like, I don't know, a tooka cat? Or would that take as much precision as a full-scale transformation?"

More nodding was quickly provided as she mentioned it. He certainly didn't mind further questions, very enthused to continue as he watched her ask. "At least on my own, yes...or...probably. We have stories of individuals who could but they often involved some kind of artifacts. I know a tooka cat;s physiology well enough probably, but if I tried to actually match the size, I'd probably crush my Vo in the process. That or look like I had a very large tumor." he chuckled at the thought of trying to fit that around a Tooka Cat body, "The Vo is generally a little closer to the size of a heart, just opposite side by nature. I could move it, but imagine trying to fit both a human heart, along with all a Tooka cat's vital organs, inside it. It's just a bit of a difficult process. Getting bigger is arguably far easier than getting much smaller. And thin species like, say, a killik soldier, can be a little finnicky as well. We aren't just matching their biology directly, but figuring out how and where to place the Vo. The BIOMED my home produces could honestly be used to replicate most of our shapeshifting abilities, so we could theoretically turn me into a cat if there was no Vo. But, the process is wildly different, requires just as much knowledge along with a competence with the system and a military standard rather than open market, and of course every change requires going to the BIOMED."

Thea leaned in, her expression caught between fascination and a hint of amusement as she followed his explanation. "So, wait, if I've got this right, you'd basically end up as a very chunky tooka if you tried it on your own, Vo and all." She bit back a grin, imagining the sight.

She folded her arms thoughtfully, glancing off for a moment as she considered his words. "I mean, I knew shifting took some finesse, but I didn't realize it could be that... crowded, internally speaking.

She chuckled, giving him a wry look. "But hey, at least you don't have to worry about waking up one morning as an oddly lopsided cat with two hearts."

Anen laughed, "I mean, yeah, that's about right." he agreed. He briefly considered trying it, but, going that small would cost a lot. And was still technically dangerous. "It takes some precision work. Surface level changes are generally considered the safest and where children would start. Unless they're hoping to be Zhorngi but...that's a whole other situation."

He held out his hands about the cat again smirking, "Not unless I really screw up." he shook his head, "Honestly just glad you like this stuff so much. It's really an interesting topic, I try and spread some of the biology knowledge I have but I'm a little careful. Some of these things could kind of...change military perspectives more than I want to risk. But, I mean, you said you're from Dathomir. In a way you kind of already know knowledge can be dangerous yeah? The kinds of magick I've heard from there is just practical enough a jedi may want to learn it, but some of it is dark enough that it could still corrupt them."
