Just a Job

Larisa closed her eyes as soon as she felt movement from the Captain and let go of her fear, the blaster hand steadied, the grip on the detonator tightened and she exhaled slowly. The scream of a blaster told her she was needed to snap back to reality. The rukus would draw the attention of the authorities she had no doubt.

Eyes wide, she wasn’t sure where to go, there wasn’t much in the way of cover. Her eyes fell on the droid who was backing up rapidly. She shot it, once, twice three times, earning a roar of rage from Tojua. She looked back the way they had come at the civilians scattering away from the fight and the incoming back up.

“Time to go!” she yelled at the Captain, Before throwing the thermal detonator over arm and into the thugs midst. She was running for the ship before the explosion rattled the whole dock.

This chit was out of control.

Nowhere to go but forward.

He leaped after her, running up the ramp already rolling out for them. Past a small droid inside the holding bay, who was quivering just a little bit. "Master-"

"Not now, B7!" Lyn yelled, before slamming his fist into the control panel. The ramp behind them started closing out again. Just in time for the detonator burst into action. No time to check. "A gorram detonator?" He grunted at her, as he jumped into the pilot seat and started the disengagement procedures. In truth there were about fifteen regulations they were breaking now. It usually took about half an hour, before they could lift off and join the traffic.

This time?

It happened in 20 seconds.

"Gonna have to burn da gorram codes again..." A mutter to himself as he yanked the controls up. The ship immediately followed suit. It rumbled around them, the metal straining to accommodate the sudden shift in positioning. But she was a good girl, he always took good care of her. She'd be fine.

"She gonna be a lil' grumpy chit by the time we done here," Lyn mumbled.

"I improvised!" Larisa snapped back in response, following him into the cockpit. She fell silent and watched as expert hands moved over controls to bring the ship to life.

This was it.

Her fingers dug into the back of the copilots chair saving her from going flying as the ship lifted off the ground. Her breath caught in her throat as it angled towards the sky. She pulled herself round and into the chair, not taking her eyes off the sky.

How many times had she stared up beyond Coruscants endless lines of traffic dreaming of the day she would fly through it all and into the stars she knew that lay beyond? Goosebumps rose and her skin tingled.

The ship groaned, snapping her out of her day dream. The chair had straps and buckles of some kind so she busied herself putting them on.

"Larisa." She said suddenly, like now was the perfect time for introductions like she hadn't just made him wade through literal chit and blown away a dozen security officers with a thermal detonator. "My name." She added realising how strange this all sounded outloud. "My name is Larisa."

The smog of Coruscant was clearing, stars were coming steadily into view.

Tip of the tongue squeezed between his teeth.

All focused and concentrated.

This was a whole mess. More than a whole. Spades and spades and spades of messes all in one. How did it come to this? It was supposed to be just a simple pick-up of a info chip. Somehow that had turned into a whole chase. Followed by a gunfight. Followed by chit exploding. Then followed by rushing away from the gorram Coruscanti police force.

Ugh.

He'd have to burn more than one identity over this, he was sure. "Pleasure, miss Larisa." He muttered as they broke the atmosphere. The stars were all around them and the world was slowly getting smaller behind them.

"Lyneon Typhe."

A pull at the lever and WHAM.

They jumped to hyperspace.

He probably should have warned her, but honestly Lyn was mildly peeved with her right now, so she deserved the scare. "How you holding up, Larry?"

Larisa had a split second to commit the name to memory before the ship lurched and pinned her momentarily in her seat. Most people would have scream with fright having never been odd off world, never mind in hyperspace. Larisa let out a squeal of delight as adrenaline rushed her veins, heart pounding in her chest.

She was stuck in that moment when you first jump off something tall when the pleasure of the adventure rushes you before any thought of danger hits your mind. When the initial lurch of the jump passed she unbuckled her seat, leaping to her feet to lean over the console and press her nose to the screen to watch the stars racing past them.

“This.” she said, not hearing a word Lyn had said. “Is. Awesome!”

She pulled her face away, to look at Lyn. “Where are we going?”

There were a thousand questions bubbling in her mind, childish glee etched all over her face. She was free. She was out and she never had to go back. “Can we go somewhere with a forest?” Another thought overlapped that one. “Oh my stars! Is there a shower on this ship?” The idea of fresh hot water to wash in overrode everything else.

Then her stomach rumbled. “And burgers, do you have burgers?”
