[*]Description: The Kral'in Luparj, more commonly known as the Luparj are a great shaggy ursine beast native to the northern regions of Panatha. They boast an extremely acute sense of smell and brilliant night-vision due to their tendency as a nocturnal hunter.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
- Breathes: Type I
- Average height of adults: 2.4m-3.5m (females) 3.7-5.2m (males)
- Average length of adults: 4.5m-5m (females) 5m-7m (males)
- Skin colour: Black, White (extremely rare)
- Hair colour: Ranging from light brown to black, with a handful of albino examples.
- Distinctions:
Size - the Luparj are huge, so huge that they find it difficult to move around sometimes. - Apex predator - no other creature on Panatha, save the Fanalis and Epicanthix can compete with the Luparj.
- Easily tamed - the Luparj come to trust sentient creatures very quickly.
- Sexual dimorphism - males are much larger and more aggressive than females.
[*]Races: Southern Kral'in Luparj - native to the Southern regions of Orcait and the Xanha Archipelago.
Strengths:
- Apex Predator - the beasts have no competition in the natural world, and they prey on every living organism on Panatha, save the Fanalis, Epicanthix and adult Kral'in Montaj.
- Brute strength - the beasts are almost completely made of muscle and fat, and can easily tear down huge trees, or completely uproot them.
- Smell and Sight - extremely acute sense of smell and eyesight.
- Lumbering - the great size of the Luparj makes them dreadfully slow, and the fastest they can sprint at is around 20 mph, and as a result they rely heavily on darkness and ambush when hunting.
- Constantly eating - to fuel their great bodies, the Luparj are forced to spend all waking hours foraging, scavenging and hunting. They run on a high calorie diet of fruits, berries, fish, eggs, vertebrates, invertebrates and honey. If they fall short of their needed calorie intake, they slowly loose muscle mass and die of starvation or are preyed upon by lesser predators.
- Poor hearing - the Luparj have poor hearing, and often don't notice hunters sneaking up behind them.
- Diet: Omnivorous - they eat anything they can find and their strong stomach acid can digest almost any matter. They have problems eating processed foods and foods which are from other ecosystems.
- Communication: The Luparj communicate with a complex series of barks, growls, yelps and howls, and have individual sounds for different things. For example, the sound for 'Epicanthix' is a deep, low rumble whilst the sound for Fanalis is a nasal growl.
- Technology level: Basic; they make beds from plant matter but that is about it.
- Religion/Beliefs: N/A
- General behaviour: The Luparj hunt for live prey at night and spend the majority of the daytime lazing and foraging for berries or fruits. They hunt alone, but during the breeding season (winter) females bunch together in packs of about 5 to defend against more aggressive and more powerful males who, fuelled by testosterone, will often accidentally kill a female in an attempt to mate. However, at other times of the year, the Luparj are completely passive and will avoid the sentient creatures of Panatha rather than attack them.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The first Kral'in Luparj evolved to survive in the inhospitable conditions of the Iron Mountains the north of Panatha, and had to compete with other super predators like the Kral'in Montaj. As the species spread to the corners of the globe, the Epicanthix of Panatha began to tame the beasts, often used as barbaric war mounts which tore through armies with unmatched ferocity.
The rich clans of Panatha, most notably the historical Rapux family, would breed the Kral'in Luparj on specialised farms, and kill the weakest for their hide and fur and use the largest as luxurious pets or guards for their giant homes.
