Private Late Nights

"I'm sure your fiancée will appreciate the company," Sonya teased lightly as the lift launched upwards. She stared blankly at the doors, lost in thought, only brought back to the present when Alicio made a few suggestions on their first move.

"It likely depends on what exactly you have. Denon will be a sore spot for the Senate to return to no matter what," Whether out of pride, shame, or affiliation, there would no doubt be those among their peers that are not keen on discussing the controversy any further, "So we'll need to be sure we can sway them."

"If not, then a smaller start seems the wiser option. Build up our reputation, perhaps even search for more like-minded senators who will have our backs,"
She shrugged, "But- can't leave the people of Denon waiting forever, can we? I'll leave it up to your discretion. You would know better than I." He had the evidence, and the experience in the Senate. The lift opened back to their office floor.

Alicio found a sheepish smile at that. "I've probably kept her long enough as it is. I've just... been trying to find a better work-life balance recently. Trying not to bring too much work home." He was awful at keeping that balance, but at least he was trying.

After Sonya finished speaking, Alicio's smile bittered. "I don't like waiting any more than we have to. But... surveying the landscape is important." He had a few ideas of who he could ask. "Have you heard the rumors? That Chancellor Auteme Auteme is considering dissolving the SILK Act? She heavily hinted it to me, at the museum dedication."

"The results of that vote would be the greatest litmus test we could ask for."

The doors to the elevator slid open silently, and Alicio took a few quiet steps, before inclining his head to the other senator. "Thank you for the chat, Sonya. And... welcome to the arena." He tweaked a grin.

“A noble goal,” Sonya mused with a smirk, “As long as there’s actually time left to spend at home.” Not like he really needed the relationship advice from her, nor was it their focus for the night.

Alicio brought up a good point regarding the SILK Act, “I’ve heard whisperings,” Her own time at the museum opening was spent with then-aspiring Senator Desric Terassi Desric Terassi , but it didn’t take long for talk to spread. The Count was right: it would be as good an opportunity as any to test the waters, should it come up, “Then perhaps we’ll see what comes of that.” Hopefully it would be a good omen. Otherwise, they'd have an even steeper uphill battle than originally anticipated.

They both stepped out into the hall, and as Senator Organa spun and dipped his head, Sonya did the same, “Much appreciated. See you on the Senate floor, Alicio.” With her things already gathered, she split off to make for the exit.
