ADVANCED SYSTEMS

  • Active Decoy System - As opposed to more conventional chaff, the Active Decoy System launches a self-propelled, droid brain-controlled, disposable unit designed to mimic a much larger target and seduce incoming projectiles or temporarily 'blind' targeting sensors. It is ineffective against stealthed opponents or weapons, but it can be fired 'blind' (i.e. if no attacker is detected, just incoming missiles). Twelve rounds are carried, which if properly employed can make a missile volley miss or scramble a conventional fire control solution for several seconds. It's worth noting that the Rebellion does not have easy access to reloads.

  • Scanner Deception System - Not strictly a stealth vessel, the Leia Organa is fairly easy to detect if you are trying to find it, (it's radar cross section must be enormous, look at the thing) but it has a suite of sensor deceivers and other systems that make it simply unlikely to be looked for. Basically the General Organa has a knack for arriving in system and seeming like just another blip on the radar, unworthy of further investigation. This has no effect on fire control systems or most active sensors.

  • Interdiction Field Generator - One of the many systems added in after official 'decommissioning.' This is a smaller variant of the fairly common tech, not quite as powreful as that on a dedicated interdictor vessel, but larger than the pocket variant feature on picket and recon ships.

  • HIMS - All but essential for clandestine operations.

Strengths:
  • Packs a Punch: Even more so than the Nebulon K, the General Organa hits hard for its size. The experimental particle cannons are the main source of this, though they have to be carefully aimed.
  • Mothership: The General Organa is the mobile home of SSLA General Command. It features extensive creature comforts despite the chaos of its internals. The ships is basically capable of moving the entire static foundation of the SSLA if needs must.
  • Extensive Automation: The SSLA, lacking the number of experienced spacers to properly crew the vessel, had to resort to extensively automating most of the routine systems in order to free up manpower for maintenance and more detailed operations. This had the end result of making a lot of the more basic things run more efficiently, though the risk is far greater if they do fail.
Weaknesses:
  • Haphazard: The General Organa was built for one purpose, redesigned for another, and jury-rigged into a third. It requires a great deal of daily maintenance to keep running smoothly. This isn't normally an issue per se, but in the heat of battle it's easy for otherwise manageable issues to crop up at the most inconvenient times.
  • Power Limitations: The ship is simply designed to do too much at one time. Even with an upgraded reactor the Leia Organa cannot manage to sustain all its weapons, shields, and other systems at the same time for more than an hour or so.
  • Weakspots: The shields on the Leia Organa are exceptional for its size, but if they go down the ship is very vulnerable in certain locations, even beyond the obvious spar.
  • Extensive Automation: Besides the greater risk for a cascading failure on basic systems, it also means that if things start going wrong in multiple places at once (like say, due to battle damage) there are few trained crew to spread between combating problems that can't be resolved via automation.

DESCRIPTION
Power Core Generator/Reactor: MP3b-1(V) Solar Ionization Reactor
Minimum Crew: 35
Optimal Crew: 380
Passenger Capacity: Over 1000 people can be accommodated in cramped though not strictly terribly uncomfortable conditions. This does begin to tax supplies.
Consumables: Approximately 2 years

The ship that would become the flagship of the Rebellion was never intended for such a role, but few who join the fight against evil and injustice intend to from the start, and in more ways than one the vessel born as 'Prototype Cruiser, Trade Council Armed Forces Project, General Upgrade Technology Demonstrator Three-One' has aspired to the role from the very beginning.

Originally launched as another of the TCAF's expensive but versatile Nebulon-K Escort Frigates, the ship served for only a few months as a commissioned warship, taking the name Arboghast and seeing a number of anti-piracy patrols along the Mara Corridor. Fate would see the ship suffer a catastrophic propulsion casualty and power transference mishap, 28 spacers died combating fires locking down radiation leaks, and the ship was towed to drydock and struck from the record, so extensive was the internal damage.

Rather than simply repair and recommission the vessel, the MPTC merged a second project they had onto the overhaul process. The reactors were totally replaced with much larger, more energy-efficient variants, and the structure of the ship was massively expanded, almost doubling it's length and height. The forward structure in particular was so enlarged it barely resembles the sleek bow of its predecessor, and the after part is much the same. Only the thin connecting spar gives any indication of the ships roots.

The goal of the project was to see if a number of advanced technologies placed onboard the frame of the already fairly common Nebulon-K was cost-effective in producing a line Cruiser, fit to compete with heavy pirate and criminal organization warships, and in wake of the creeping encroachment of the Sith. It was ambitious and pricey, risking overloading a ship designed for an escort role with too much internal systems to properly handle.

Weapon systems were extensively upgraded, the already fairly impressive loadout of the Nebulon-K was built up, with a particular emphasis on the large armored prow sporting a battery inspired by the Scythe-class Battlecruiser of yore. Four experimental Pulse-Firing Particle Beam Cannons were added in a vertical fashion to the prow, each emitted what appeared visually to be a single coherent beam, constantly projecting particle packets onto the target. While the overall damage per impact as low, if the beams could be kept on target they could do incredible damage over time, overloading shields and punching through armor into the internal structure. The main drawback was fire control, as consistently hitting faster cruisers, frigates, and smaller targets could be very difficult.

The four distributed shield generators were upgraded for more output and a fifth was added to reinforce the spar section, which seemed even more vulnerable given the extensive armor add to the fore and aft of the ship. Other change including moving the navigation cabin to a spar jutting from the prow, necessitated by the extensive armoring and weapons additions to the front of the ship. The primary command center is the raised section back aft, though a small station also exists forward, just below the slightly offset raised weapons blister.

The hanger was tripled in size, and room was cleared or added for special mission systems to be added as necessary. Plans included compartmentalized fleet command networks, ground support batteries, troop bays, and more. It was launched, though never formally commissioned, and stuck with the businesslike moniker that was merely a description of what it was.

Initial space trials were promising, but the myriad disparate systems on the ship proved to be a constant headache to keep running, and maintenance costs skyrocketed. Cost-benefit analysis showed that two or three Nebulon-K's could perform a similar role while still being cheaper to produce, operate, and maintain over a period of thirty years. Unwilling to invest any more time or money into what was seen at this point as simply a cursed ship, 'Prototype Cruiser, Trade Council Armed Forces Project, General Upgrade Technology Demonstrator Three-One' was marked to be scraped.

Stripped, disarmed, and depowered, the makeshift cruiser was towed into a distant asteroid belt away from the prying eyes of the Sith. As far as the TCAF is officially aware the ship was left at the planned point, the charges were set, and the shipbreaking crew departed in shuttles. There is a note in the official files of a two-hour delay, but the final report indicated the charges went off eventually and there was no scrap large enough to reproduce any technology left in the debris field. In fact a later survey team reported no significant debris field at all in the area. A resounding success for the demolition team, at the very least.

The TCAF has no official stance regarding the rumors that the has ship recently reappeared in service to one of the nascent organized rebellion movements in the galaxy, under the name General Leia Organa, after the legendary Resistance leader of ancient times. They merely point to the official records and, if pressed, will note that the overall design shape is a fairly common and enduring one in the galaxy at large. And after all, if such a haphazard and complex vessel was seen as too frustrating to see service in a 'proper' navy surely a rag-tag rebellion would have no use for it. Surely the extensive number of empty compartments and secure spaces might make for an excellent home base for an organization desperate for any ships, refitted into living spaces, planning rooms, and storage champers.

Of course it was possible that the unruly weapon systems that required constant management would probably work just fine for a crew that lived aboard said ship 24/7. Certainly it was conceivable that all the extra hardpoints would make ideal mountings for a wide array of jamming and anti-detection systems that would enable such a ship to operate even in close proximity to hostile forces. All of this was possible, but the TCAF considers it all just rumor and hearsay. The official reports are freely accessible, after all.

The ship has turned up once again on spotty reports from the Unknown Territories, sporting a new flag, this time of the Sanctuary Systems Liberation Army.

If you'll replace "will" with "can" here please.

Overall, by strict ratings, this is two ratings too high. However, I think that the "weakpoints" weakness compensates for one of them. I'd like to see another rating reduced or another significant weakness added please.

[member="Edwin Mad-Thane"], balancing looks good. Just the other issue remains:

[member="Mordred B'Haran"], just a couple things here, I'd like to discuss before I can push this through to approval

If you could do me a solid here and link any specifically named materials used in the sub, that would be great! Thanks!

Although it's wonderful that you included this information, if you could move it to the Description section, that would be amazing. Then we could mirror the latest template

These are listed under your armament section, but I am not finding them when I search Wookieepedia for them. If you have a link to this, that would be amazing. However, if this is a writer created variant and you haven't yet created a sub, I'm highly going to encourage you to do that or change the shielding here. Thanks!

Added hyperlinks.

I'd prefer not to tweak the layout of the template I've been using for years if it's not absolutely necessary. If it's a deal breaker than yeah, I'll change it, but I figured I'd ask before shifting around to a format I don't feel flows as well visually or thematically.

The shield generators are pure flavor text. I have a personal rule of not subbing tech I'm gonna only use once, and since factory 5.0 it's all for flavor anyway. I can change it if it's problematic though.

[member="Mordred B'Haran"] thanks for the updates! However, just as i said in the other sub, we strive to keep uniformity where we can across all subs as they come through factory so if you would be so kind as to mirror template by placing that miscellaneous information into the description and not the technical specifications, that's would be great.
