Light Side Sorcery?

Is there such a thing in canon? It seems like Dark Jedi/Sith get all the cool spells. I guess it sort of makes sense given how the Dark Side is about manipulation of the arcane where as the Light Side is like being an extension of it a la Obi-Wan versus Grievous.

Still am I missing anything? Or non-warrior Jedi basically scholars, teachers, diplomats, healers and seers (or some combination thereof)?

I'd like to make Dune not so lightsaber oriented now that he's a Knight and less beholden to more basic/traditional teaching.

I want to know the same. I was also thinking of Jedi Alchemy, since we have sith alchemy. I mean Lumi here is going to be the uber good girl--a doctor even. What if she used alchemy to make medicines and prosthetics?

The trouble with alchemy is that it solely manipulates natural things. The traditional Jedi declared anathema on it which got Sorzus Syn and other original Sith Lords/Dark Jedi exiles booted out.

I'm not saying not to do it, just thinking how an old school Jedi might feel about it.

The Awoken are actually developing unique 'Light Side' spells within our faction. There are not many canon examples of Light Side spells and that is one of the big goals of The Awoken. The innovation and conception of magic in all its forms. We have light siders in the faction working to design and develop spells ICly that are well balanced and fit within the universe. Hmmm, Dune is a good guy through and through. He wouldn't condone the Dark Side in any form. The Nightsisters are, for better or worse, inexorably tied with the Dark Side. They themselves may only be seeking what's best for themselves, mind you. Or wait, wasn't there the singing mountain clan? They were 'good' witches right?

Alright so is that you speaking your personal opinion or is that you reading the description of the faction itself? Because what you just said does not pertain to Winter, or the faction as a whole in any way shape or form. They do not believe in 'alignments' such as good or bad. They remove these barriers to allow innovation to drive them forward. Its why the faction was made...

What I'm saying is Dune doesn't condone the Dark Side and witchery often involves Dark Side stuff in canon. But your group is going to avoid Dark Side stuff? Or like you just said, are you going to do some of everything?

It is possible to create such a tradition, just make sure you flesh it all out so you don't accidentally cross over to the dark side.

There is no such canon set of abilities, outside of Allyan witches of dathomir.

Long story short, The Force can do anything. That's canon. :D

And, try not to bother with that Dark=Awesome and Light=Dull mumbo-jumbo. As long as you're channeling inner peace and attempting to be benevolent? Yes. A Jedi can do a lot of awesome things with the Force. Including be extremely dangerous.

Now. Since you specifically asked about "Lightside Magic"? Yes. That is a thing. EU wise, anyway. However, it's a primitive tribal backwards-thinking sort-of-thing. George Lucas held quite clearly that the Jedi interpretation of the Force was the "most correct" perspective, from an applications stand point. That being that you wave your hand and amazing things just *happen*.

Admirably, just try not to over think it. As long as you're not shooting Pink Unicorns out of your fingers or conjuring up Katy Perry Concerts from thin air? Yeah. Nobody really cares how you mess with the Force. Enjoy that freedom. It's part of what makes the genre so cool in the first place. :p

I dunno I think we all REALLY want a "conjure Katy" spell. Deep down inside, I think we all want it :D

One of these is Star Wars. One of these is not. Can you spot the difference? :D :p

Witches of Dathomir were pretty... light side, I guess. Though the Nightsisters were clearly not.
The original Witches of Dathomir were very Light Sided. They wrote a book called 'The Book of Law' which pretty much symbolized this. Then the Nightsisters made the 'Book of Shadows' and you know how that song and dance goes. The Nightsisters thought the one who wrote the Book of Law was weak and old. Corrupted by their 'Jedi Blood'. So they made their own little...thing.
