Looking for a home for a Jedi

OK-3103

Captain Meneer Chrome
I'm looking to create a Jedi character. My personal reference is around the third and fourth movies. They don't have to serve the Republic, but they do have to follow the Code and fulfil all of the standard Jedi obligations e.g. defend and protect, never attack; serve overs, rather than rule; preserve life - you get the idea.

So I looked at the various Jedi factions on the board and found them all a little...militant. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong - that's entirely possible. The closest I saw was The Jedi Order (a Minor Faction) but that appears to have gone through a 180-degree transformation over the week-end and is also about to merge with the Galactic Alliance.

So please help me out. Have I got it wrong? Is your Faction one I've overlooked? Have I got your Faction wrong? Please help me find a home for the Jedi I have in my head.

I'd like that :)

Hi,

You are sorta right. We dont have a united jedi order in that aspect. Most are in one way or the other affiliated with defending a specific major faction.

In all fairness - the faction known as the Jedi Order was not neutral before either. It supported the Republic. And now has shifted to support the GA foremost.

When I started writing Mantic I began in the Silvers but switched once I got to know my character a little bit better down the road. It is "mission impossible" to understand and get a personal view on all factions and what they stand for in a "quick fix." It all depends so much on what writers are the most active at the time being in the factions me thinks.

When it comes to size the Silver jedi and the GA (and the Jedi Order) has the most active jedi characters. You will have an easier time finding writing partners by being part of a jedi order affiliated with a major faction.

The one faction that keeps being neutral and does not really care at all for politics as long as you are lightsider is the Jedi Academy
While it is not an order it serves the purpose of helping your character of for a good start and will most likely put your character in touch with other jedi characters to help mold your future goals and "jedi career"
I would suggest head there for starters. Find a jedi master and go from there.

I appreciate the help. I think the Academy may be a good place to start until I better understand the whole politics and dynamics of the Jedi here. I tried reading a few threads about unification but they tended to die out.

But I'll wait another day or so before making any firm decisions, although I think the Academy is a safe bet regardless of where my Jedi ends up.

They are very militant, you're right, something which has had me struggling to write a Jedi for some time now.

You could always seek out a Master to teach you away from a Faction, so that your ideals aren't swayed by that of a Government.

The Sanctum is actually not a Government thing - they help the planets in their sectors but they let them govern themselves. Sometimes a Jedi has to fight to defend, which is understandable, but I agree with the sentiment that they shouldn't feel like an army.

Just my two cents :)

We have troops in the First Order, which means we know a good Faction when we see one.

SO have a look at the Silver Sanctum Coalition -

e have a military unit, the Antarian Rangers, so I'm sure you could be an effective military leader for us! Plus we are a little rough around the edges and can tolerate a wide variety of characters coming our way as long as their goal is to stay in the Light.

:)

Thank you for the feedback. Given advice I've received for my Knight of Ren character, I'm going to focus on them and their development for a while, so the Jedi will just have to wait. I was in danger of spreading myself too thin, too soon.

[member="Osynth Obek"] - sounds like fun :p

[member="Jorus Merrill"] - yes, if and when I think I can add another character, it will definitely be a Jedi and the Academy sounds like the best bet :)
