Looking for Allies in All the Wrong Places

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Kay stared at [member="Ali Hadrix"] for a moment. The young woman was getting at something as they were talking. She sipped her tea once again. "All right...What is it that you'd like to help out with specifically?" Didn't she just say that her efforts had stopped at the moment? Maybe she was wanting to help out when things got going again. Who knows? Regardless, Kay was sure that she'd find out soon enough. Though her gut was telling her to walk away right now.

Ali shook her head in response to the question. "No, no, no...I just need your help getting in touch with...the people who do this." Ali wrung her hands nervously and looked about, concern marking her features. She looked as if she were afraid to talk, but had no choice. "I had a friend, okay..." Ali pulled up a photo of her with another young woman at a bar, drinking and enjoying themselves. "Selca. A couple nights ago, we got drunk and met these guys. They were nice...but...they...they took her." Ali chewed on her lip as tears welled in her eyes; she looked as if she did not want to continue. "They took her, but I got away. I...I left her...I h-have to find her..." Ali let the salt drip from her eyelids and hid her face away, feeling her skin flush and her face redden as she sobbed.

Kay set her tea down as she listened to the story. Sorrow and concern could easily be read on her face as the tale unfolded. She placed her satchel on the table as she got to her feet and walked over to her, giving her a hug. "It's okay....It's okay. We'll find her. It's not your fault." She rubbed her back before pulling away and giving Ali a napkin to dry her eyes. "Just tell me what she looks like and those that kidnapped her and I'll spread the word, okay?" Poor thing must have been just riddled with guilt.

Ali took the napkin from the other woman and pressed it to her eyes, then clutched it below her chin and continued sobbing for several long moments before finally regaining her composure. Hand shaking, Ali dropped the wet napkin onto the table and clutched her chest, leaning into Kay's embrace and nodding in acquiescence to the Senator's reassurances. "Oh-okay," Ali bit out, wiping her eyes dry with the napkin once more. "Th-thank you for h-helping." She said, a sense of calm beginning to replenish the paleness of her skin. It took some time, but Ali managed to provide Kay with a description of her friend's captors, the location and other details about the non-existent event. Ali had casted her net, and Kay had been caught. Now Ali had to see if there was any wrong truly being done by the woman.

Once [member="Ali Hadrix"] calmed down, Kay reached into her satchel for her datapad. And then she remembered. It was broken. She frowned slightly and then got to her feet. They couldn't do much to save her friend by just staying there. "Come on. I've gotta get a new datapad and pass on what you've given me through a few allies of mine."

---Time skip---

A few days later they were at the same bar that Ali said that her 'friend' was taken from. Kay had managed to scrounge up a few mercs for hire, each strategically placed within the bar for an ambush. Now for the waiting game. This wasn't quite unlike a couple of the traps that she had set for slavers. Whether or not the kidnappers would show up was anyone's guess. Ali was there to point them out. The rules were set. No killing, only knock outs. They wouldn't be able to find the girl otherwise.

Of course Kay had no idea that the kidnapping was entirely fabricated. She was the trusting sort...

Ali sat at the bar alone and well open to identification by the individuals they were attempting to snare. The individuals in question were known slaving affiliates and hired muscle, that had been tipped off by GRIM agents a wealthy debutant of some kind had ended up at the establishment following a particularly nasty altercation with her spouse. Their likely plan would be to abduct Ali and hold her hostage for ransom, then sell her off after receiving the credits and disappearing altogether. Kay's plan would intersect at some point before ransom demands were even issued. Ali kept to herself and sipped at a glass of water, staring down at a datatablet while keeping her attention focused on the area around her. She did her best to look nervous, but crying the other day had taken far more effort at the time.

Kay had put the call out for some mercs for a job. Of course she tended to use different mercs each time. But for now though, only one of them was needed. He was well equipped for blending in, a bit of a shadow, if you will. He kept an eye on [member="Ali Hadrix"] just as she did.

Almost on cue, the slavers and their hired thugs arrived. Kay remembered seeing images of this particular slaver on the holonet. Byers Frohike. He was ruthless, had short man syndrome so he had a terrible temper, but he was also sly. Credits were his life and nothing was more satisfying than gaining more credits.

He took a look around the bar for his target. It wasn't too hard to spot her either. He sauntered over towards Ali with his men flanking him, though he ignored them as his eyes were fully on his target. "Hey now, little Miss. Are you drinking your sorrows away? You know, it's better to do that with company. So what ya say? Need a shoulder to cry on? Byers Frohike is your man." He grinned up at her.
