Looking for tips on creating/writing a witch

Recently i have found myself wanting to venture out of my comfort zone and actually create a character that is not a non-force user for once.
After looking around for inspiration i happened upon some characters that were witches and i thought they were pretty cool.
Long story short, I really want to create a witch character but the whole thing has me a bit lost. I am looking for any tips/guides that can help me out with this.

some queries.
  • Do witches and normal force users differ greatly?
  • What are the spells? where can i find them?
  • is there a specific faction for witches or are they more spread out?
  • Do you rank up the same way force users do? with a teacher?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

What kind of witch are you referring to? We have the Witches of Dathomir, which is quite different than the Jedi/Sith approach to the force, there's Ewok Shamanism, there's Sorcerers of Rhand, there's the Sith sorcerer approach, and so on. All of these are a bit different than the "normal" Jedi & Sith approach to the force, but nothing too different.

I'd need to know the answer to the first question to give you information on that. But Wookieepedia has every force ability in canon.

There's a Witches of Dathomir minor faction, but I don't believe it's actually active. Aside from that, I'm not aware of any factions for them.

Force users all rank up the same way, and you don't actually need a teacher to do so.

1. Apprentice To Knight
  • When an Apprentice's Master feels the Apprentice is ready for promotion to Knight, he/she submits the Apprentice's name for promotion to his/her Faction Administrator for approval.
  • If the Apprentice does not belong to a Faction, the Apprentice's Master will submit the Apprentice's name to a Role-play Judge for approval.
  • If approved by the Faction Administrator/Role-Play Judge, the Apprentice's name is submitted to a Board Administrator for Rank Promotion.
*In the case that no Force User Master is available, any Faction Administrator/Role-play Judge may represent the Apprentice as his/her Out of Character Master for promotion purposes.

2. Knight to Master
  • When a Knight's Master feels the Knight is ready for promotion to Master, he/she submits the Knight's name for promotion to his/her Faction's Force-User Masters for approval.
  • The Faction's Force-User Masters vote and decide on whether or not the Knight is to be promoted to Master. Majority rules the vote, but in the event of a tie, the Faction Administrators are required to make the final decision.
  • If the vote succeeds, the Knight's name is then submitted to the Role-Play Judges to be voted on and ultimately decided whether or not the Knight will be promoted to Master.
  • If the Role-Play Judge's successfully vote that the Knight be promoted, a Board Admin will inform the Knight and promote him/her.
*In the case that no Force User Master is available, any Faction Administrator/Role-play Judge may represent the Knight as his/her Out of Character Master for promotion purposes.

[member="Darth Vitium"] Thank you for taking the time out to help me!

i was looking over the above things you mentioned and i believe the Witches of Dathomir or the Nightsisters are pretty much what i was looking for. Do their force abilities differ from Jedi or sith? or is it pretty universal?
Having no active faction is a shame. I hope that a witch being in another faction wont seem out of place.

Say my character is a witch of Dathomir. Is it possible for said character to be trained by a jedi or sith? I say this because it will be my first force user character and the help from someone experienced would be help me get the swing of things.

The shortest answer is yes and no.

Dathomir magic is generally focused towards altering and manipulating things around the caster. Sometimes witches would group together to weave powerful displays of force usage. Other times rituals and incantations were involved. Though like most force users. Witches had access to all the core force abilities and most if not all of the darkside talents you could find a sith use (provided they had a different approach of how they accomplished it and likely a deeper understanding towards the ability)

A witches ability to weave a spell is more of what determined their power. More so then the sheer potenty of force behind a technique. That and witches had a dog eats dog system. Kinda like the sith. If you werent capable of magic or strong displays of spell weaving you were a servant, if you were powerful with your magic you were leader. If you didn't know your place, you were dead.

This is my take of it at least. [member="Darth Vitium"] could you elaborate upon, or correct anything I may of misinterpreted.

Certainly, though I'm not quite sure if it would make IC sense to learn spells from a Jedi or a Sith that wasn't aware of them. Anywho, to answer this question:

They are a bit different in how they utilize the force. For example, they use "Dathomir magic" rather than the normal approach of the force. These abilities are all centered around spirit ichor (or most are, anyway). All the articles on these spells can be found here.
