I've seen plenty of variations. What works for you?

I've seen percentages, scores out of five, colour bars out of ten...all sorts.

Me? Just a personal choice but I use:

Beginner – Can only use in ideal conditions e.g. couldn’t use in combat
Competent/Acolyte – Can use in most situations including combat but with limitations e.g. duration, strength
Advanced/Knight – No limitations on use
Expert – Advanced understanding and use
Master – Known to be one of the greatest practitioners

I prefer Latin personally. Ferus, for example, is Latin for Feral. Which he was before I messed him up and did a restart to fix it.

Keep in mind you don't have to actually make a list or anything. This is all optional. You can do what ever you want, so long as it isn't god modding or metagaming. Just be sensible though. No acolyte should be going around ripping star fighters out of the sky for example. Do what you like, just remember that you are writing with other people.

I'd say there is no best language for this. One really just needs to find what fits the character.

Personal choice really,

At one time i was refered to as Darth Fidelis when i was a true sith, not i simply prefer the title of my alias.

I used Latin for my character's name change when she was elevated to Sith Knight....Venefica means witches/spellcaster in Latin.
