Under the ghostly glow of Lothal's twin moons, the ancient stone alcoves loomed tall, towering over the wind-swept plains. Once the heart of a thriving civilization, now these ruins whispered secrets of a bygone era, secrets that Braze sought desperately. With each step, his boots stirred echoes among the stones, the soft thuds interspersed with the rustling of his loyal loth wolf puppy trotting beside him.

As the night deepened, Braze navigated through the labyrinth of weathered archways and collapsed walls of stone, each turn and shadowed corner with the possibility of an enemy just beyond the bed.

The brisk night air was charged with an underlying tension, as if the very stones were aware of his clandestine mission. He was here for 'something'—a mysterious artifact rumored to be powerful enough to sway destinies, hidden deep within the alcoves by ancients who knew its potential all too well.

The allure of the unknown pulled at him, a siren's call that promised wonders yet unseen. As Braze ventured deeper, the ruins seemed to close in around him, the path narrowing and the night air growing inexplicably colder. Every whispered tale of this place played at the edges of his mind, tales of treasure hunters and scholars who ventured in seeking glory and knowledge but little claims upon their return.

"Stay close, little one," he'd murmur, his hand gently patting the puppy's head.

There was always something magical about places such as this, be it an old city or the ruins of a once grand battle. Perhaps it was her mastery over death that allowed her to enjoy such places, for if she focused long enough.. She saw them. Heard every last moment and witnessed the patterns of what once was a life.

This place was no different, all around she studied the after images of those who once were. Within the cold eternity she had for herself, spectacles like this helped it never be so dull.

An ear catches a voice, footsteps that grinded down the broken stones beneath as they walked... But who?

Ah yes.. This was a scent she knew. But, was today befitting of a fight? Perhaps, or perhaps not..

She cared only about seeing what is was they were up to, call it a curiosity sparked by a mild boredom if you would.

It wouldn't take long for her to get close enough, peering down from atop a broken wall, her black dress swayed within the wind.

"What brings a little light such as yourself to a place like this? I don't think you will find much life here, but it is a lovely atmosphere, is it not?"

She remarks, followed by a faint smile. From a glance she didn't appear or sound hostile, yet her calm voice had perhaps once tricked him before. Back some years ago when both him and his master had crossed blades with this creature of the night.

Braze was noticeably weaker now, a sharp contrast to the robust figure she had encountered nearly a year ago. The virus that had swept through his system left a shadow of his former strength, and the lines of strain were evident on his face. Every move he made was calculated, conserving energy, yet there was a tenseness in his eyes, a vigilant alertness that hinted at the stakes of their unexpected meeting.

The small wolf paused, its ears perking up, and a snarling little bark directed her way alerted Braze to her presence before she spoke. Carefully, he reached down to pet the pup, then scooped him into his arms, his gaze never leaving her as he wrapped his arms protectively around the animal.

"My business is my own," Braze stated simply, his voice steady despite his weakened state. He attempted to step around her, a subtle but firm attempt to avoid further engagement. The last thing he needed was her delving into matters she should remain oblivious to—especially not the Visionary's Relic. He harbored knowledge only of rumors about its creation and purpose, whispered secrets he intended to explore alone. The presence of an outsider, potentially meddling, could be disastrous.

She stared for a time, unblinking. Her face showed little to no expression, yet inside she was confused. This was nothing like what she had seen before.. No snarky remarks, no dimwitted quips to try and anger her.. Curious.

"Mm."

Adeline says before vanishing, as if her body had sunk into the shadow upon the wall itself. Her rather noticeable force was now nowhere to be found, gone in the wind like a whisper till she appeared on the ground almost next to him. The strange woman stepping out from the shadow itself with the same expression.. Or, lack thereof to be precise.

"No crude remarks, no bone headed childish mockery... Your flesh.. Curious indeed."

She states before taking a closer look at him.

"Your.. Business seems rather dangerous, taken by illness yet here you are.. Delving into the ruins of yesterdays. While I would offer tea, you'd think it a poison. A fair assumption, but I don't plan on killing you."

Nevertheless she brought forth a fancy little cup within her hand, filled with a liquid that did indeed smell like tea.

"At least one thing that is sticking to normality is you running off away from your teacher."

She jests while still offering the drink, the vampiress seemed to have no Ill intent. If the drink was indeed taken and drank, it would be a bitter mix... Hitting hard but only for a moment, the sweet aftertaste helping as the herbs would slowly try and boost the consumer's energy for a time.

Braze's eyes widened in shock as she seemingly vanished, his ears catching only the faintest rustle, like a whisper carried away by the wind. His heart pounded with a mix of fear and bewilderment as she reappeared almost beside him, stepping out from a shadow with an unsettlingly blank expression. The small Loth-wolf in his arms growled fiercely, reacting to her sudden proximity and sensing his deep unease.

"N-No, thank you," Braze murmured, eyeing the cup with suspicion. His voice was barely above a whisper, carrying a blend of politeness and caution. "I'm not supposed to talk to Sith," he added, giving her a wary look as he tried to step back, the frown etched deeply across his face highlighting his discomfort. Despite the apparent calmness in her offer, he felt distinctly outmatched and vulnerable; It was painfully true—he was but a shadow of his former self, his presence within the Force severely diminished.

"What do you want from me?" he asked, his tone tinged with a blend of wariness and genuine curiosity. As he tried to soothe the agitated pup, his mind raced with thoughts of why she sought him out, especially in his diminished state. Far from the bold, confrontational young man she had previously encountered, he now seemed more like a humbled child, standing disarmingly open to whatever intentions she harbored.

A brace encased his left arm, marking another stark difference from the robust figure she had last encountered. He could tell that dismissing her wouldn't be easy. "You speak of no crude remarks, no mockery, yet here I am, far from the warrior you once faced. So, what brings you to confront a man who is, by all accounts, less than he once was?" His eyes, reflecting a sentiment of fear, remained locked on hers, waiting for an answer that she might reveal.

With the drink refused, it vanished from her pale hand. The woman giving only a simple nod in response, she would then be asked many questions of course.

"I oft visit places such as this, I see and hear the dead. On a serene night such as this, I sought to get away and simply listen to yesterdays. For others, a ruin. For me, an afterimage of what once was. Consider it a dream, watching spirits."

Here to relax and watch spirits, these are her words.

"Consider it chance that you would visit the same place as I, you appear to be doing something and I simply investigated. For someone such as myself I find that I have that freedom, what would be the worst that could happen? A lost limb? A stabbing? I was burnt last time we met, but alas there is no finer skin in the galaxy."

Adeline stated, making it clear she had no fear of him.

"Would you want me to calm that dog?"

Braze, noticing the potential dangers and the unsettling presence of Adeline, decided it was best to plan a subtle exit strategy. He kept his movements casual and unhurried, not wanting to raise suspicion. Braze started to map out the terrain in his mind, noting landmarks and possible hiding spots as they spoke. He subtly shifted his position, inching closer to the outskirts of the ruins. While maintaining the conversation with Adeline, he ensured that each step he took brought him closer to a clear and safe escape route, ready to leave if the situation turned hostile.

"That sounds depressing... Why would you want to watch the past?" Braze asked with a morbid curiosity. "You're like that stranger... ( Onrai Onrai ) Don't you have friends to entertain conversation with?"

Adeline's drink vanished from her pale hand, and she nodded in response, explaining her affinity for visiting places like this to see and hear the dead. She described it as a serene way to listen to yesterdays, a dream of watching spirits.

Politely declining her offer, he soothed the pup, gently stroking its fur to keep it calm as he inched closer to safety. "No need to calm him, he's just a bit restless. We've been through a lot."

"Well, I should probably get going. It's been... interesting meeting you,"
he said, readying himself to leave the ruins, all the while maintaining a calm facade and ensuring he was prepared to exit swiftly if needed.

"Depressing? It is watching history in a way, be it here or in the forests where the ghosts of animals still trot around. The battles have to be my favorite, watching beings clash. It is like any action movie, but better."

It would be hard for those eyes of hers to miss anything, much less his movements and looking around.

Don't you have friends to entertain conversation with?

"No."

A swift response, there seemed to be no care in her voice, no sadness in her tone when sharing this.

"I will accompany you."

She gives a slightly smug look, both he and her knowing full well that he could not force her away. Her expression showed and let off the same kind of joy he once had... The joy in being a smug ass.

Braze allowed a soft smile to grace his lips, "Alright, Miss... " he said, his voice smooth as silk. "I suppose having you along could be... beneficial. I could use an extra pair of eyes. "

He moved with deliberate slowness, as if considering the weight of his decision. The ruins, ahead were cloaked in mystery, and seemed to hold their breath. His fingers brushed against the cold stone as he set the small pup down.

"I am looking for a door carved in to the mountains. To find the door, look not where all is clear, but where shadows dwell and mysteries steer. Does that sound familiar to you miss?"

"Where shadows dwell? Mm.."

It had been made clear moments ago that she had a unique mastery over shadow, so even the slight discomfort in her tone could be enough of a warning.

"Let us hope these shadows are of this world, lest I fear you may need my help more than you know."

Not elaborating further, she thinks for a moment.. Having been so lost in a meditation before they met that she couldn't recall any places like what the boy spoke of.

"No, I can't say I have seen this door. But, I can help find it."

A handful of sithspawn bats clamber out from under her attire, the little creatures scrambling up to Adeline as she whispered something to them.

Swiftly they flew off, soon followed by a swarm of them. They came out of almost every dark corner of the ruins, she had many eyes it seemed.

"This.. Sickness you have, do you know what it is? Where you got it?"

He had a horrified and disturbed look on his face as he watched the various Sithspawn bats fly away. An uneasiness settled within him. "Some kind of virus that eats away at Force-sensitives... Why do you care? Did you want to try contracting it?" he asked, unable to completely rid himself of his sassy, cheeky nature. Perhaps there was some humorous merit to the idea of touching her and giving it to her as if it were some gross, contagious thing through skin contact. However, he was pretty certain it had to be contracted from the blood of someone infected.

"Curious how that would deal with this body of mine, it would never kill me... Many have tried. It may be obvious that my force is not like what you would normally feel or see, I wasn't born with it, you could say it was grafted to my body and soul."

An interesting tid bit if there ever was one...By all rights she would be considered an abomination by many, her very soul eternally tainted by the foulest magics.

"Ah, no need to fear the little spawn. Today they mean to help you, as do I."

She would use a claw to raise his chip up so that they were eye to eye.

"Little light, do you wish to lead the way? Or would you prefer an aerial view?"

The woman asks, voice smooth as a fine silk.

He shifted away from her hand, clearly not enjoying the touch. His eyes were a muted jade green, cool in tone. He eased back from her presence, not wanting to be close. Her mere presence made him uneasy, and any attempt at closeness was met with a cringe as he shied away from her touch.

"And why do you want to help me?" Braze asked, suspicion evident in his voice.

He scanned the area, looking for the entrance. Deciding to continue, he moved down and through the crags of the stone cliffs surrounding them, continuing his search. He was fairly certain it wasn't exactly a doorway, but rather a cave entrance in one of the rock walls somewhere around here.

She huffs a little bit before speaking again.

"Simply because I want to, I do what I want, when I desire. I don't know what you are after, but I can't say I care. We walk in different shoes, obviously.. But I don't mean just dark and light, what I mean is that I can hear your little heart beating. I am frozen in time, you are not."

One of her bats would land, taking a rest on her shoulder as it looked at him. At a closer glance, they weren't ugly, more so rather fluffy.

"After a number of years one becomes bored, you understand this I assume? Well, I like to watch the results. We find you some holy light stick? Amazing, go kill Sith with it.. Or whatever it is you Jedi do."

She points a direction with her claw.

"Over that way there seems to be something of note."

Adeline then continues on.

"As I was saying.. I do what I wish. Is it so hard to believe that I seek to do a good deed? Besides, not like I can use the light."

The woman steadily follows behind Braze, her offer for a bird's eye view still on the table if wanted.

Braze listened carefully to what she said and found it curious. What did that mean? Was she really that different from him? It seemed she might be like that Onrai Onrai person. He watched the cute, fluffy little bat creature and frowned. He was attracted to the cute, fluffy exterior, but he didn't like the sentiment that they were once something else... and very likely a perversion of life.

"I'm certain boredom must be inevitable... no one can stay entertained forever,"
he trailed off.

"How come you can't use the light?"
Braze asked simply, not understanding why that might be so. "Is it because... it's harder to do? Because you know... it is harder to use the light side. The dark side of the force is easy power... it's self-fulfilling and selfishly driven. It's way harder to be selfless and act out of compassion and love." He trailed off, peering at her. "I'll tell you a secret if you promise not to harm me."

"Even if I tried to use the light, it wouldn't work. I feed on life, it would be hard for me to focus that in order to heal someone with the light for example. I have tried before, but alas I cannot. Even with that out of the way I made a choice years ago that has set me on the path I now walk. I work with the occult, little one. I have seen things and felt things that we were not meant to see, in my haste I devoured a being of stars and shadow. That is why you saw some of the things I can do, manipulation of reality, breaking of minds, tendrils of shadow... It is part of me now, but it doesn't wish to be. The source of all evil, the father, cursed my already blackened soul. And so now I use my knowledge to help in ways you Jedi cannot understand or do, I keep shadows at bay and lock them away. I devour and control nightmare so that some may rest easy. I both hunt and am hunted by the immemorial, some days I grow so very tired."

There were two in existence who knew this much about Adeline, Braze now being part of that.

"Over time I have been losing what is described as 'humanity', I don't understand love or friendship, and the touching you all do is so odd. I used to be full of energy, a bit of a hometown hero in a way. I may have been some spawn of darkness, but I used my strengths to destroy bands of thugs who made it hard for people to live."

Not everything seemed to be so black and white with this strange woman..

"A secret you say? Little one, if I wished to harm you I would have. I said this before, or does that sickness also limit your ability to think?"

She jests a bit, huffing lightly in a playful manner, giving him a soft pat on the head.

Braze tried to grasp what Adeline was talking about. It all sounded very... sad. Yes, sad.

"So... like that nasty Mnggal-Mnggal creature?" he asked. "Or more like the creepy Shadows of the Sith feeding on fear and despair?" He'd been studying the odd holocron and trying to converse with the gatekeeper about the path of shadows on and off. He wasn't getting very far, but at least the gatekeeper would entertain his questions. He wondered if the path of shadows had some kind of connection to the Shadows of the Sith. He couldn't really find much on it aside from a few harrowing detailed survivor reports when he was trying to look into the path of shadows.

"Were you always like that? Did you have to do such things, or was there a time before all of that?" Braze asked. "It's sorrowful and pitiable to hear you do not understand love or friendship... as my secret is this: Love and friendship are some of the most powerful things in all existence. That and belief or hope," Braze offered simply. "I told this very same thing to that... being ( Onrai Onrai ) I met when harvesting mushrooms, herbs, and berries. This is a universal truth."

Braze's eyes softened as he continued, his voice gentle.

"Love and friendship are strange, powerful things. They can heal wounds that even time can't touch. Even in the deepest darkness, hope can be a light. Even with out understanding these things completely, but feeling them, knowing they exist. They can give strength, even when everything seems lost. Your path is hard, but maybe, just maybe, there's still room for a little light, even in the shadows."

"I speak of the father of shadows, the source of all evil. I.. I have seen his realm, I don't enjoy remembering it. But, it is interesting to know you have met my acquaintance. I enjoy my conversations with Onrai, it was she who helped teach my things."

Call it strange, maybe even crazy, but Adeline had a feeling about this kid.. Enough to share information.

"Wasn't always like this, I was born on Nal Hutta, child of a single deadbeat mother. The shack I lived in wasn't fit for anyone, no credits to her name.. My mother sold me at the age of five to cover her current debt to a gang. For many years I suffered abuse of all kinds by their hand, showed me how things really were for someone like me."

She then huffs a bit, actually smiling as she went on.

"As a little girl I had these childish fantasies, I wanted to be a hero and save the people I knew. As I said before I wasn't born with the power of the force, but I didn't understand it much anyway as a kid. I wanted to be a Jedi more than anything in the world, night after night I made countless wishes to the stars that I could help myself and others. I was.. Just a scrawny little Chiss girl, jumpy as a mouse droid too."

This, she was sharing information that only one other soul knew.

"I was eventually bought by some scrappers, they needed more hands and in return for my freedom I willingly stayed and helped for a time. One night while taking apart some old droid in the swamp I was attacked from behind, fangs sunk into me. By all rights I should have died, but just like I have done so many times already I got back up. Changed after a long sleep, you could say it was some twisted version of my wish. The rest of my little story? Not very important anyway, gangers died."

A troubling past and now a fading sense of humanity, all bundled into a woman who thankfully was holding in there... If even for just enough.

"Another reason I have mixed feelings on pursuing things like even a friend, is that I know I will either watch them die slowly over time, my curse could get them, or they get caught in violent politics..."

An understandable concern.

"Ah, but your main curiosity.. I am a highblooded Sangnir, I feed on blood to live, just as a wolf eats a sheep. It is my nature that I require life to feed on, thus my very nature stops or heavily hinders me from using the light to help myself or others.. So I use the tools I have to lock away evil and control shadow."

This was a lot of information to absorb, and though it sounded familiar, it was still different from other stories he'd heard from people on similar paths. He didn't really know what to say or if anything he said would matter to her in the grand scheme of things.

"I'm sorry you've had to suffer so much,"
he finally said.

"My past is just another in the macabre grimoire that holds all our stories, but thank you.. I suppose."

It felt a little weird to share all that, even weirder thanks to his prolonged silence.

"Care to share some of your own information? Such as, what are we looking for? It has to be rather important for you to place all your cards on the table like this.. Thinking on it.. Does your teacher even know you are here?"

Odd indeed, seeing as how the two flowed together so well in battle.. Yet, it wasn't so confusing if you summed it up to youthful rebelliousness mixed with a healthy helping of idiot.

"I have no objections if you desire to contact him, perhaps he is worried about you."

Her words came off rather robotic considering her gentle yet apathetic tone, yet by now Braze should know that is just her normal tone of voice.
