SPECIAL FEATURES:

Strengths:
  • Great long-range firepower
  • Great point-defense
  • Ability to generate interdiction fields at long ranges (standard long-range turbolaser range)
  • Ability to penetrate interdiction fields
  • Can land on planets
Weaknesses:
  • Slow, unwieldy
  • Repulsorlift generator failures must be repaired in orbit
  • Once gravity field projectors are activated, it starts attracting debris from explosions on or of nearby ships, potentially causing hull damage
  • Exposed gravity field generators: for this reason it is a priority target, especially since destroying gravity shield generators can potentially gut the ship
  • Rapid-fire turbolasers can only be fired from half standard turbolaser range
Description: It was found that the venerable Immobilizer 419 (I419), which saw service in several light-sided navies in a variety of engagements, was not without its flaws: it was unable to penetrate interdictor fields, it was too large for its mission, and it was evident on Ossus that ithe I419's lack of a tractor beam was an issue in an asteroid field. To allow interdictors to operate on the Lothal-class chassis, they are fitted on the lateral wings, which have the side effects of rendering the gravity well projectors highly exposed. In addition, to enable it to fit the primary roles of the I419 on a smaller scale, on a chassis approximately half the size of an I419, the Lothal-III has had its hangars expanded to 7 squadrons, up to the 4 squadrons of the Lothal-II. Of course, the gravity well projectors' energy expenditures made it so that it could not carry the same amount of firepower as the Lothal-II.

It also shares common weaknesses with other interdictors: gravity field projectors are exposed, giving enemies a prime target for bombing runs or for smaller ships capable of closing in to fire at them. Also, commanders wishing to use a Lothal-III will have to deploy escorts effectively in order to protect their Lothal-III, even more so than with an ordinary carrier, for a myriad of reasons including the ability to wage electronic warfare (ECM and ECCM). In addition, slicing the ship's systems is much more difficult due to the defensive redundancies built into the shilp-wide neural net, powered by the waste heat recovery devices. On that ship, due to the high energy expenditure of the gravity well projector, waste heat recovery devices are fitted to them, a marked departure from usual design practices where they are normally fitted to reactors and engines. Also, the CIC comes equipped with a Castameer tactical display, allowing its crew to track hundreds of targets at once, for interdiction or otherwise, while the CHX 5.0 sound systems being installed throughout the ship allows the crew to maintain morale, among other means.
