A double-barreled autocannon, the Maneater is Helix's first offering in terms of mass-market naval weaponry. Small enough to be attached to anything from a tank to a freighter to a cruiser, its chief selling points are in ruggedness, low cost, and versatility.
The Maneater launches 55-millimeter caseless armor-piercing shells at a slow but steady rate of fire, battering smaller or more lightly-armored capital ships. However, it is also quick-traversing enough to potentially threaten fighters, bombers, and ground vehicles. This versatility is perhaps the weapon's greatest virtue, as it can be at least mildly dangerous to most targets short of a proper military cruiser. As such, it is somewhat popular with criminals, smugglers, and (ironically) some planetary police forces. It possesses a considerable ammo capacity for a solid-projectile weapon, due to its caseless, compact munitions.
However, this is perhaps also its greatest weakness, and its detractors say it neither fires fast enough to be a dedicated flak weapon, nor packs anything like the punch of a turbolaser against proper war vessels.
