- Intent: Create a near-human species from a heavy world to present a new perspective onto galactic events.

- Name: Madrugar
- Designation: Sentient
- Origins: The Wild Space system named Drugar, on the planet Madrus
- Average Lifespan: 150 years
- Estimated Population: Planetary
- Description: The Madrugar are a species of near-humans who diverged from normal humanity some 25,000 years ago, living on an isolated colony on Madrus in the Drugar system. Having a gravity 20% higher than that of human standard worlds, the humans who colonized the planet became squat and strong, developing the physiological traits of short stature, broad muscled bodies, and dense bones that they have today. Routine replacement of failing organs with cybernetic parts, and the development of regenerative cerebrospinal fluid injections, has extended the Madrugar lifespan to over 150 years on the average.
- Breathes: Nitrogen-Oxygen atmosphere
- Average Height of Adults: 1.55 meters
- Average Length of Adults: N/A
- Skin color: Pale to Dark Brown
- Hair color: Red, Brown, Black, Gray, and White
- Distinctions: Shorter than human average. Trend towards broad, robust bodies. 20% stronger than human average. Dense bones infrequently break.
- Races: Near-Human
- Force Sensitivity: Rare
- Strong
- Long-lived
- Robust
- Shorter than average
- Cultural antipathy towards thinking machines and fully automated systems
- Diet: Omnivorous
- Communication: Spoken language with strong consonants, bears some similarity to Galactic Standard but has evolved in isolation, leading to odd pronunciation of words.
- Technology level: Galactic Standard
- Religion/Beliefs: Believe in a type of Manifest Destiny that teaches them their ancestors came from the stars, and they must strive to reclaim their birthright. They approach trade, warfare, and technology as means to reassert themselves on a Galaxy that tried to leave them behind.
- General behavior: Their Caste based society rewards specialists in the fields of Warfare, Labor, and Building (engineering). They are a proud people. They tend to be antagonistic towards those who look down on them. Whatever caste and trade they adopt, they crave recognition in the eyes and words of others for their excellence. When not working, they can be merry, enjoying dancing, drinking, and socializing. While the Madrugar love machines and cybernetics, they despise fully automated systems and thinking machines, which would take jobs away from Clan members.
Madrugar – The Madrugar are a species of near-humans who diverged from normal humanity some 25,000 years ago, living on an isolated colony on Madrus in the Drugar system. It is believed the colony was established by refugees from an ancient galactic conflict, but the precise nature of the threat which drove them to their world is unclear in the historical record.
Records show that the Madrugar were impoverished when they arrived on Madrus, and disassembled their spacecraft to provide needed shelter and materials. They were forced to be creative and crafty to survive. Strong family units were formed for mutual support and competition against other refugee populations. This developed their culture into a Clan-based society that valued builders, laborers, and warriors above all.
Their mineral-rich but life-scarce world forced them to find technological solutions to biological problems. As a consequence, machines and cybernetics dominate their culture, with most of their food grown in vats within industrial clone farms. The original animals and plants that donated their genetics to these farms have long-since gone extinct, with their original forms only speculated at by archaeologists who sometimes unearth fossilized remains.
Leaving the surface of Madrus was a difficult prospect due to the higher gravity of the planet, and may never have been attempted were it not for cultural traditions and histories that insisted the people of Madrus had originated from the stars. For this reason, spacefaring technology was doggedly pursued by them as a means to reclaim their lost heritage. Finally, 2,000 years ago, the Madrugar re-discovered spaceflight, and 100 years ago, they re-discovered hyperspace travel.
In their short time as a spacefaring culture, the Madrugar have achieved some impressive feats. They have constructed a megastructure known as a 'Starlifter' around the Drugar star, which maintains an orbit 180 degrees in opposition to the orbit of their homeworld, Madrus. This Starlifter uses powerful tractor and repulsor technology, in conjunction with thermal shielding, to lift useful elements directly from the star and into refining facilities. This allows the Madrugar to mine incredible quantities of Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Silicon, Magnesium, Neon, Iron, Sulfur, and Nickel. In turn, these materials are further combined into useful alloys and composites to provide for their large manufacturing capacity- which exceeds what a single-system society might otherwise be capable of.
Between the Starlifter and their orbital construction facilities, the Drugar system provides a tempting target for pirates and conquerors who might want to loot their facilities or even capture them whole. For this reason, the Madrugar maintain a large military staffed by their Warrior clans. Meanwhile, Builder clans constantly assemble war machines and ships, while a subtype of the Laborer clans- known as Traders- bring Madrugar goods to the other species of the galaxy to increase the economic strength of their world.
The Madrugar are ruled by the three primary Clan types – Warriors, Builders, and Laborers, with a ruling council comprised of Clan chieftans that elect one of their number as the Prime Executive. The Prime Executive has ultimate authority in Madrugar society, although their decisions can be overruled and their position overthrown if a 2/3rd majority of the council deems it so. It is possible for a member of Madrugar society to renounce their clan and apply to join a different clan, but this is rarely done and carries a certain amount of social stigma.
Originating in Wild Space, and being a Planetary species occupying a single system, the Madrugar are only now emerging far enough to make contact with the more established powers of the galaxy. What they make of such entities as the Dark Empire, the Sith, the Galactic Alliance, and the Empire of the Lost will depend on how they are treated by each group, and what dangers they perceive from them. The Madrugar deeply desire to place their proverbial footprint into galactic affairs, as they believe their rightful place in the galaxy has been denied to them due to their flight from an unremembered conflict long ago.
