Mandate

HK-36

The Iron Lord Protector (Neutral Good)
I was the one who proposed this change, specifically change from the current Defensive Stronghold mandate to the Capitalism Reigns mandate. The reason behind it is that one of the strengths of Metal Lords was a very active and very successful corporate recruitment drive, based on this mandate. Basically we told various companies that if they started or moved interest within our space they would be able to jump to Tier 3 immediately, which lead to having them more involved within our faction and recuirment of very valuable members like Ra and Aeshi Tillian.

If the FWC would switch to Capitalism Reigns we would be able to assimilate this recruitment drive into the faction and help boost your numbers more efficiently, as a matter of fact I already received a couple of new members brought in by the interest from this mandate, one of them being [member="Errreembuhr"], so changing to this mandate would have immediate effect by allowing for Err and another new recruit to gain a tier within their companies just by setting up shop within FWC space.

As to the Defensive Stronghold, it's a good mandate if FWC was under siege, but we are one of the few nations that officially did not declare a side in the so called Great Galactic War, I do not see FWC becoming a target in the nearby future, not to mention, as GA showed, having Defensive Stronghold mandate does not actually help that much with defense of their territory. At this point it's not about how many allies you can summon or how many characters participate in the invasion if you have the minimal amount required, what matters more is how well the allies work together and the story they write.

Personally, I view Capitalism Reigns as not a particularly useful mandate for a faction.

It is good for individuals, as they can start their company at tier 3. However...this doesn't require them to actually interact with the faction (and certainly not to support it). They just need to say in their company subs that their HQ is located in the territory of a faction that has the mandate. You don't even have to be a faction member.

Full disclosure, that's what I did with one of my companies, though not in Metal Lords territory. The faction itself does not benefit.

Regarding the Metal Lords' recruitment drive, I mean no offence...but they've been recalled. So clearly it did not have the desired effect, since it did not translate into activity considered sufficient to keep them on the map.

Regarding defensive stronghold, you obviously still have to vet your allies. The Galactic Alliance did not do that at Dagobah...and so ended up hiring people who backstabbed them.

HK does make a good point in saying that even with a defensive mandate, the GA still lost because of lack of story and the other bullet points in the end result. So does Siobhan in saying about the capitalism, the MLs did get recalled. It wasn't for lack of trying though on the part of HK and myself. I can't speak for the other writers, but he and I really tried to get people involved. That's not the point here. (Just waking up so I hope I make sense.)

What about hermit kingdom? With the new addition of the flashpoints that come with invasions, it might be something to consider.

Hermit Kingdom
Strength: Hexes this Major Faction owns may not be the target of Rebellions or Flashpoints.
Weakness: This Major Faction may only claim one Dominion per month.

How quickly is a normal dom done in FWC? This also means if we get invaded, we aren't subject to a flashpoint.

@Ra'a'mah - we have never been invaded. And as for dominions the last one was for Hapes opening post was Nov 13, last post was Jan 12.

[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] - I agree the idea of vetting anyone who would seek to help us should an invasion come given what happens.

Capitalism Reigns
Strength: Companies established in this Major Faction's influence cloud may begin at or upgrade to Tier III.

I remember we looked at this when mandates first came out and if I remember correctly we decided that as a faction we could help any company with contracts to get them to Tier III. We just needed story.

Hermit Kingdom
Strength: Hexes this Major Faction owns may not be the target of Rebellions or Flashpoints.
Weakness: This Major Faction may only claim one Dominion per month.

We also looked at this mandate. We said either this one or Defensive Stronghold would work because we are a small group. At that time we liked the idea of having infinite number of allies to help. With Hermit Kingdom we could manage 1 dominion a month, and the protection from rebellions or flashpoints.

But it would not protect us from Invasion.

Would anyone invade us? If they did Commenor has a non aggression treaty with us, Galactic Alliance and SJO are our friends. The Collective is a question mark. The Mandalorians I don't know there's no reason for them to like us unless they just respect Draco. Some of our other IC allies/friends are in the outer rim like ORC.

The Empire, The Sith, the AE are all wild cards.

We are working on relationships with CIS, Sovereignty, the Remnant Republic.

I think we still need Defensive Stronghold. But I leave it to the faction. We can vote on it if enough want to see a change.

As is a smaller faction, I think it's best for us to keep the Defensive Stronghold in place.

Capitalism Reigns doesn't really benefit factions. I suppose the idea for factions using it is to attract activity, but I can get a free tier up in one of the influence clouds with Capitalism Reigns, and never have to interact with them ICily or OOCily.

There's only a 10% chance of a Flashpoint occurring in any given invasion or rebellion, so with it being highly unlikely that the FWC will have to deal with either event, I don't see anything gained from the Hermit Kingdom mandate.

Defensive stronghold.

Capitalism Reigns is a nice faction story lore piece, but (and provided we're not going to go on the war path and invade people) the defensive stronghold mandate realistically helps from getting steamrolled if and/or when someone invades.

I've been in invasions where it was 5 to 1 PC odds. Do not recommend.
