Map game tweaks

Maybe these suggestions are less radical than the last one, but here they are:
  1. Limit the number of hexes a major faction can hold to 20. Managing several sectors IC is definitely not getting any easier the more sectors there are to administer, and also allows more major factions to crop up.
  2. A 7-day cooldown period between the end of an invasion and the announcement of another invasion on/by either participating faction. I know factions' muse can be drained by an invasion, 7-10 days is well-appreciated as a recharge time.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but the first point is like telling the Roman Empire to stop their conquests with Gaul. There’s plenty of spaces on the map as it is for new Faction’s to grow and flourish.

Aren't you going on LOA indefinitely? Besides, you could've just kept it in the other thread instead of cluttering us with the displeasure of a new one.

There isn't any real IC mechanism to make every major stop at 20 systems, and it is untenable for those who enjoy the map game.

Your second suggestion is honestly not bad as a base.

This, essentially.

1. No. Bad idea. It stilts natural flow and progress, and puts more work in hands that don't need it.
2. This could be something. The salt and toxicity often grows with invasion burnout. There may be some kinks to work out, though.

I see the basic idea of what you are going for, and though I personally don't involve myself in the map game as far as invasions/pvp is concerned, I do enjoy watching such threads unfold. I also understand the need for dynamism in the map game. The 7 day limit between invasions against a faction or the defenders launching one of their own would help with the salt when one faction gets slammed with multiple invasions to deal with all at once.

As with any rules tweak there would be a lot of kinks to work out so as to preserve dynamism in the map game while giving a timeframe to recoup for writers involved in an invasion. Although I do agree with Graf as well. Why make a separate thread about this, and why bother if you are going on an indefinite LOA? Just seems to be odd timing honestly.

1. That makes zero sense, IC or OOC. With the exception of the odd minority, major factions exist to expand. Whether it be to imperialize or capitalize. Artificially limiting expansion beyond the current limits (3 dominions a month) makes no sense. Full stop.

2. Why? Becoming major is a declaration that "this is my rock and I can/will defend it." Why should there be an artificial break between invasions? If your faction is not capable of taking the heat, get off the map. It's that simple.

Write stories as a minor and leave the coloring of numerous hexes to those who don't mind fighting for each and every one.

^This mentality is part of the problem IMO. But I do like suggestion 2. I know why suggestion 1 will never work with how the site is, but number 2 is a legitimate one.

@Shango

I understand where the argument you are making comes from, and I won't even deign to address why the first suggestion is a bad one. That much is obvious. However, the second suggestion is one that would apply to all factions, and 7-10 days I feel is a bit longer than may be needed, but perhaps 2-3 days would be reasonable. Just some down time between invasions for people to regain their bearings isn't bad and could easily benefit all parties involved. Also, such a break is easily explained IC by making necessary repairs and replacing lost ships/ crewman before taking the fight to the enemy again.

I honestly think a break time between major happenings like Invasions is a good idea. These are major battles happenings, people need rest (real people) and though those invasions maybe fun, they do need to step back and relax. I like suggestion 2 a lot, it makes sense to me, suggestion 1 though isnt going to work.

Im not here to support the SJO, Im talking board wide in general. I dont even know what is going on with the SJO, nor have any association with them.

But I like the cut of your jib.

If this second suggestion is to help out a singular faction, that is wrong, and unethical. The suggestion should be made for the board itself.

Like [member="Stephanie Swail"] said in the other thread, please don't take the suggestion of one writer as the view of an entire faction.

The SJO wants to continue to have invasions as evidenced by the latest conflict coming up.
