I bid a significant portion of Sarapins geothermal output as well as an Immortal on the Soulsaber (I think I had more in there for the icing). Was it over the top? Yep. Was it totally in line with the Wrath who was about to peace out of the OS in a somewhat big way? Yep. Soooo...sometimes it makes sense given the character and what resources they have. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

This is the sort of thing that happens when literally every other character is some sort of billionaire playboy. When anyone can spawn virtually infinite resources on a whim, is when we get these ridiculous bets, because money is meaningless. Savvy business practices? Conserving money? Non sense, I'll just sign a contract and say I have all the credits.

Add this onto people typically playing, atleast partially, from a OOC point of view (very very few crime lords/business men would give a flying flakcannon about the mask of some ancient Sith Lord anymore than a crimelord/business man would care about, say, Joseph Stalin's jacket in the real world. But since most people on here played KoToR and have a tattoo of the Ebon Hawk or some sh!t, they're willing to trade massive, ruinously expensive warships with the ability to obliterate the surfaces of entire planets within hours for some clothing item that they have no idea is authentic. After all, they're buying from unabashed criminals) and you get these types of situations.

Well it also sucks when the guy you bid against has no character sheet even either to even know if half his claimed affiliations are real. Then he throws 240 million credits he doesn't actually own on a personal accessory any real life criminal organization would murder him for wasting and then take the mask for themselves. Not to mention the guy giving away free contracts so he basically destroyed his business if the auctioneer decided to make him produce more than he could afford and his company goes under by the sheer loss each produced product cost the company he bankrupted with a dozen free contracts.

And then they claim they totes can, the auctioneer doesn't respond when you bring up the rules, and the item isn't sold properly so there's no fair way to go after it afterwards.

+1 on the longest sentence I've seen used inside brackets ( ). Props to you.

It's already been clarified that Janus is an alt for the same character he writes as. That's why his character sheet links to both of his accounts, like I did with Alicia and [member="Darth Ayra"]. It's to hide in plain sight, mostly to avoid people metagaming something along the lines of sensing out your allegiance to the Force. Now that it's been clarified who Janus really is, it makes perfect sense how and why he was bidding for the mask. To clarify, I didn't begin this thread because of that particular auction.

No prob. I too feel that this is an important thing, mainly because the business game is really the one I play. I don't like the Doms and Invasions--PvP is too bad for me with all the loldodging (I know there are good PvP'ers out there, but I really got sick of Sith Acolytes who thought they could take down entire frigates single handedly with a screwdriver and willpower. Yes, its happened to me more than once. And yes, some used screwdrivers or others even less than that).

I do feel the business thing is a good angle--and is unrealistic. I (personally) have maxed bids out at up to 7 mil. I wasn't bidding on a mask or a sword or anything but stealth corvettes. I could have kept biding after that but... well, come on now a real crime lord wouldn't do that. I hope this sparks for thought provoking and pleasant things in the future and less risk-ay points.

Unfortunately I feel that such a conversation is bound to not happen.

I just stay away from the auction house.
Fantastic little idea but when the system is abused by the same names over and over again it looses it's appeal.

Besides all these people who put up Star Destroyers...are they now guilty of slave handling or do they just literally give an empty ship with no crew to an individual without the means of manning such an expansive ship?

The rules are enforced by the auctioneer. They are actually pretty clear.

The auctioneer can very well accept bids of goods, services, favors, etc. and will be taken as legitimate bids and may receive preference over monetary bids. The Auctioneers can also ignore bids at their discretion if they feel a bidder cannot afford to pay dubious bids.

However ...

If bidders feel their bid was unfairly ignored can appeal to RPJs and/or Company Factory Judges for help.

The report button is there -- but remember, RPJ's will ask first and foremost if there has been an attempt at resolving it amongst yourselves first.

An auctioneer can very well tell someone --- no, we are not accepting your bid because it is outrageous ( and it has been done before ) please adjust your bid.

Okay. This thread has told me a lot. I wasn't aware of the rules regarding these areas in question (which is my fault). I guess that from now on, I will be calling out any crap that I see going forwards. Thanks for the help and everyone else who contributed.

You can archive this. Or pin it maybe. Whatever floats your boat. :p
