Memorable Moments at War

As I said to Sam on Skype,
[16/01/2015 5:50:01 pm] The Queen: I'd like to see wars that actually resemble SW and not invasions that are dictated by duels
[16/01/2015 5:50:15 pm] The Queen: Heroic captains going down with their ships, daring pilots, the whole jazz
Been fighting this battle for the entire year I've been here.

Nothing's changed in that time, except for a new rule or two. Don't hold your breath. :/

We're slowly getting there, there's increased interest in fleeting and dogfights. I've grown a bit more interested myself after covering the starship factory.

It's happened several times before. Dies down not long after the initial surge.

Still, we'll have to see where it goes. There's a glimmer of hope. But I just have learned from history to not expect much to change in the grand scheme of things.

It's been my observation that the invasions and battles that we have (these include dominions and skirmishes) are pretty messy. So many people writing in one thread, it's difficult to follow what's going on and to follow other duels and stories going on in the same event. I like to read as much as write on Chaos and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

A solution I can think of to fix this is to split the event into different threads. For example, there is the Manaan invasion currently taking place that has three objectives. Why can't these objectives have a thread each? I think this would solve a lot of problems.

It might solve problems it would also raise a few more such as inconsistency between threads (as if internal thread consistency is not hard enough)

One solution would be to work out the strategic points of interest long before ever initiating the invasion. The faction leaders and whom ever else is involved in story boarding once agreed that an invasion shall take place of a world should at that point snap shot everything about that planet. Every codex entry associated with it, every canon entry associated. What are the defense, what are the points of strategic interest? From there one should be able to ascertain the flash points or hot spots of where alot of action will take place. Have a planetary shield generator? The leader of the planet's palace is in the center of town? The starport where ships are able to get serviced from. The Jedi temple or whatever some silly jedi shrine where such and such did something. these areas of strategic importance are typically part of the strategic objectives.

Then you have to look at things from operational objectives: Can we knock out that shield generator right now? Or since the pubs have moved some troops into that area perhaps we should redirect our efforts toward that silly shrine thingy.

then of course tactical objectives such as: there is a frakking sniper hiding out ontop of the silly jedi tower while these karking hippies are trying to murder me!

So yeah determining progression of story is quite tricky. Its even worse of course when you post, then go to work, eat, sleep, do other rl things and get back and you are like 20 posts behind and someone blew up your celestial forsaken shrine and there are nefarious sith gallivanting all over your city breaking stuff.

On a previous RP site from way back in the day I was once involved with a military guild on there and the same issues came up and seems to plague most sites.

One of the best and easy solutions I've seen and also try and do is to make a template for the start of each post you make of who are involved with fighting and where about you are at. Which I'm certain you are already doing just my really long two cents...! :p

A nemesis? An opponent that cannot be beaten or overcome?
