Auction Mining Rights to Katarr

In Umbris Potestas Est
"We can continue trying to peacock this whole time." She said. "Or you can ease up, and save yourself a lot of trouble." Onrai smiled, her free hand softly pursed. She sensed the makeup of the automaton, divining its creation - fleshy, yet unusual. The organs were power sources of a type she had not encountered before. A hidden hand tensed, and pressure was directly applied to them through telekinetic force - or perhaps Anti-Force. As long as nothing was visible, everything was fine, even as whatever systems within the pseudo-organic shell would hopefully be strained past their maximum.

"Ten trillion and quadruple the freighters." She spoke. "The Alliance has survived long enough, grown stagnant, and been responsible for spreading its malaise across the galaxy. The Empire brings much needed change and is better suited to deal with the threats that lie beyond the boundaries of known space." She sighed. "You aren't feeling well. You should head out and go visit a mechanic."

Sera struggled to maintain composure, hallucinating things due to the parts of her brain being affected.

"A justification given by every Sith Empire that the Alliance ever crushed. Given by any Sith Empire against their counterpart before they inevitably collapsed. Remind me...how'd ya'll Sith fair against The Bryn'adul? Oh, right...it wasn't even you guys that crippled them. It was that upstart...whatsherface...right, the heretic crippled them...Sera said to Onrai Onrai subtly referencing Laertia Io Laertia Io .

"Twelve point five trillion..." she said to Nej Tane Nej Tane

Nej was grinning ear to ear, watching the tirade after returning from the bathroom (and shaking his hands dry. You'd think an auction house would stock up on towels...) and settling back into his seat.

A Mandalorian in business casual walked up to him, handed him a note, then left the stage.

The note was from Hakon Fett Hakon Fett , who had used space sticky notes to draw an animated version of Nej getting beat over the head with a note that said "UC AND SHIP NO CRED".

Nej, liking not being beaten violently by a bunch of scary Mandalorians, leaned back into the microphone.

"Due to a very minor threat on my life, bids-" His voice cracked as he resumed speaking, clearing his throat. "Bids will be in UC and trading of ships from here on out. Other bartered items will also be accept-" He looked over at Hakon, who didn't not nod, but also didn't shake his head.

So it seemed that was... okay? For now?

He checked the back of the note.

"Also if you parked a red speeder with a fender that says 'BORN 2 DRIVE', you're in a reserved space and your vehicle has been crushed."

A sad looking Twi'lek in the back put his head down in his lap. He really liked that speeder.

The Bloodsucking Philanthropist
"Sorry! I didn't see your vehicle! I'll pay for it!" Sera called out to the Twilek. "Everything I have offered, plus three legions of EFR Super Heavy Battle Droids!

Internally, she was thankful at the credit amount capping at twelve point five trillion. She was close to approaching what would have been a tenth of the companies earnings. They would make it all back in the course of about six months, so spread out they were, so diversified were their products.

The team, better countering the electromagnetic frequency, allowed her to think more clearly. Barter items...

"We are also prepared to commission a number of weapons and private vessels to Mister Tane's liking. Each of them will have a super Deluxe Coffee Machine."

“And yet the Sith still remain while the Bryn’adul are nothing more than a collection of forgettable pissants who control nothing and hold no dominion anymore. What’s left of them had the audacity to raid my world and I personally stamped my boot on the heads of what was left. Not that I even am a Sith anymore, but still.” She said. Yes, that had been quite the misadventure to say the least.

“Everything I’ve offered before as well as something I have never offered anyone before - a number of Oppressor-15 Dark Troopers. These are virgin units, new old stock, some of the most powerful droids ever produced. And to top it off, a Pluton-class battleship - with the unique Saturn modifications giving you unparalleled hyperspace jumping capabilities. Remember also I’m offering you substantially more UC than she has been. Protection from those threats on your life is also included.” Onrai said, seeking to finally crush the various organs of the biodroid with whatever powers were at her disposal. A part of her regretted that she didn’t simply try to gank the creature, but appearances were important.

"Alright alright alright, shutup. Everyone just- shush."

He pointed at Onrai Onrai .

"You, creepy Sith Governor lady. You're out." He tapped the gavel, and waited for the dancing lobsters to escort her out. Sith and Dark Empire? He knew Mandalorians well enough that he didn't, and shouldn't- do business with a Sith. Former, current, or part of the Dark Empire.

"And quit trying to threaten my life vaguely people, it's very odd."

No thanks!

Ick.

"Alright, so that leaves...." He looked around the room, and pointed at Jonah Jonah , Sera Mina Sera Mina , and Brakkus Brakkus .

"Final offers, let's hear 'em. Compile 'em, I'm going for a smoke, you all have..... until (6PM MST IN US, WHATEVER THAT WOULD BE IN STAR WARS FK U) to submit your final offers. I'll decide after everyone's submitted their best offers. Ta-ta."

Chi sat in the Star of Pantora's lounge as she watched the auction unfolding on a 'pad propped up in her lap, sipping on a quite nice blend of tea. At first she'd given it no mind, planetary mining or other nonsense not being her forte, or even of interest to her. But the gossip had pulled her right in, and now the spectacle was entertaining in itself. The bis were so absurdly high that she doubted the powers behind the representatives would be happy with them or likely to follow through. A fingernail made its way to her lips and her teeth rested against it, not biting, never biting, but just holding while she considered. A mere iota of a fraction on offer would bankrupt her beyond reason, even before her recent purchases, but ships were on offer and noted as acceptable. And what fun it would be to say in the coming months that she had participated in some small way with a bid of her own.

Toying with the data-pad, Chi put in a bid of one Sojourner shuttle before smiling to herself. The only way such an offer could be accepted would be by accident, a slip of the finger soon corrected. Unless Nej wanted to use it to escape all the angry bidders. Really, it was surprising that not one of them had thought it cheaper to hire mercenaries to run the single man off and claim the planet by force. More importantly, she was in now. A part of the story. Sitting back in her stuffed lounge chair, she pulled up the information on the planet itself to learn if there was any indication of something even remotely worth being this excited about.

As soon as Onrai was gone, Sera started gathering her thoughts.

12.5 Trillion for a deserted planet. Just a tiny fraction of that would be more than any employee of hers would ever see. Quadruple the number of ships... controlling half stake in three of the companies subsidiaries -- and Nej Tane Nej Tane now a part of the money making. 20 percent royalties from those subsidiaries for the next three decades...plus whatever else she had offered.

Great things would be done with this planet. With what she had in mind, she would make her money back on Katarr and then some.

She wondered if Alicio Organa Alicio Organa would be open to having a secret Alliance or Jedi Stronghold here. Either way, she would be gobbling up everything

What else? What else could she add to get the deal over the line.

Then she thought of The House Bloodscrawl raid on Khemost and all the goodies they had stolen.

She entered the contents of her total offer and threw in a stolen Advanced Battle Cruiser .

Nej Tane Nej Tane was a trillionaire if he took her offer. He would never want for money or weaponry again. And the mining opportunity...

Not to mention the Secrets her house would loot from it...

“I offered over a dozen and a half offers. I showed you my line of credit was good.” Onrai leaned over the seated Sera, eyes on Nej. “So I have one question before I go.” She was certain she was in the correct position with the magnet in one hand and the other thing she needed in the other, as she said the last word.

“Why?”

The same time the simple word was spoken, the free hand of the skeined abomination clenched a dulled cylinder. An electronic device activated. A rod of plasma emerged - hopefully through the center of mass of the disrupted automaton. Were she to be lucky enough to actually get the stab in, a quick upward slash would hopefully bisect the construct from the navel on up vertically, through the breastplate, neck, and head - and a series of horizontal slashes at breakneck speed would hopefully leave the biodroid’s carcass sliced like a salami.

She had stood there, smiled, played nice, offered substantially more to an individual than she would otherwise have offered out of a desire to exploit the world beneficially, and had pressed forward in a bidding war against a machine serving the political enemy - a machine that had threatened her with the paltry firepower of a clandestine sniper team. Nej had told her she was no longer a part of the auction - so there was no justification to remain cordial as she prepared to take blaster fire, almost excited at the thought of the experience.

"Well that's why."

He said, as she tried to attack the other lady.

The nice one!

Fortunately, Hakon Fett Hakon Fett and the combined presence of Carduul Akahl Carduul Akahl , meant that well... there were a lot of Mandalorians in attendance. A lot. A lot a lot.

So, there were.... more than four dozen guns being pointed at Onrai Onrai , including Nej himself with his Enforcer pistol. Nej stood up. Jedi, Sith, whatever or not. She wasn't going to walk away unscathed if they all opened fire.

She was let out of the meeting with little fanfare, and the auction resumed.

"Okay so, final offers, let's hear 'em. UC and Bartered goods, whatyaall got?"

Sera's combat databases, badly flustered by the magnetic disruption inflicted by Onrai Onrai managed to warn her at the last second what the governor was attempting and made a desperate, ungraceful dive roll out of the seat just as her would be killer activated the blade behind the seat, her artificial life flashing before her eyes.

She did not escape unscathed--the blade managed to clip Sera's side, leaving a brutal scorch mark that forced Sera to fake silent, extreme pain as she scrambled back desperately as all the Mandalorians and Nej Tane Nej Tane leveled her weapons.

Sera wasn't faking the terror. The silent, cold sweat of dread pouring down her face.

Mother had warned her business dealings could be cutthroat...she should have been prepared and had been arrogant and nearly paid the ultimate price. Sure, her memory was backed up...but the copy, had it been necessary to grow, ultimately wouldn't be her.

She watched as Onrai was escorted out...forcibly, this time...

Sera got up, clutching her side.

"I have made my offer, Mister Tane. I feel that, given what just happened, it will be my final offer..."

"I await your decision...with baited breath..." Sera said, walking out after making certain Onrai had...

Gossip got around the mining magnate circles of the auction for mining rights on Katarr. He had been half-asleep at his home in Gallinore but now he was wide awake, watching this play out. Boy, was it sure playing out.

Not knowing many details, he was merely watching and refreshing his screen to see the text updates of what was bid and how much. Looking in the history, he could see there were overly dramatic leaps in the bidding. Who the hell was purposely overpaying? Had to be someone new to business.

When he saw 12.5 trillion for the mining rights he started to cough, quickly trying to stifle his shock and regain his breath before he woke his wife up for no reason.

"Amateurs." He commented to himself.

THe head of Sasori looked at the man and continued to amuse herself... more seeing the bidding go so high... for simple mining rights on a planet... at this point they weren't even auctioning the planet itself.... her hand came out as the ring she had fashioned for the jedi masters gleamed blue bands and the infinite engine technologies built into it with a force crystal focused her intent and will as she constructed a stack of credit chits while placing them under her chair to hold it in place and keep it from wobbling.. auction chairs... always so shoddy in design to encourage bidding fast to get out of there.

"Okay so, final offers, let's hear 'em. UC and Bartered goods, whatyaall got?"
Matthew folded his arms, his tone remaining steady but laced with subtle skepticism. "Just to be clear," he began again, eyes narrowing slightly, "you're seeking Underworld Credits? The universal blockchain currency used by a majority of criminal factions in the galaxy? If we're dealing in that kind of currency, it's important to understand what exactly you're paying for, especially on a planet like Katarr."

He gestured to the holographic map displayed from his gauntlet's com, displaying Katarr's position amidst a mosaic of faction-controlled territories. "Katarr is situated in one of the most volatile regions of the galaxy. Surrounded by powerful factions and other influential groups, it's essentially in the crosshairs of ongoing conflicts."

Matthew's gaze shifted, "The planet's location makes it a hotspot for military and criminal activities. Any mining venture there wouldn't just be about resource extraction; it would mean navigating the intricate and dangerous web of territorial disputes. The turbulent machinations of war in that sector add layers of risk that can't be ignored."

He leaned forward slightly. "Moreover, Katarr is a dead world. Traditionally, mining rights for such a planet would be valued much lower, unless there's confirmed evidence of valuable resources like rare metals or kyber crystals beneath its surface. Even then, the cost of securing and operating on Katarr, given its location amidst warring factions, would be exorbitant..."

"Typically,"
he continued, "mining rights for resource-rich planets are measured in millions to billions of credits. For a barren and inhospitable world like Katarr, the rights might be worth as little as a few thousand to a few million credits, mostly covering the opportunity to explore and assess any long-term potential. So, proposing a figure like 100,000 Underworld Credits raises questions."

Matthew sighed softly. "You're not just purchasing mining rights; you're investing in a venture fraught with geopolitical risks and uncertain returns. The planet's proximity to hostile factions means any operation could be disrupted—or worse, become a target in the broader conflicts."

He concluded, "In essence, while 100,000 Underworld Credits might seem like a reasonable price in underworld dealings, the actual value of Katarr—considering its devastated state and dangerous location—may not justify such an investment. It's crucial to weigh the substantial risks against the speculative rewards before proceeding. I presume one would use the Credits from such an auction to no doubt purchase other more profitable territories? "

Nej almost shot Matthew. Pretty boy had a mouth on him.

“Hey dork, you wanna bid on it or lecture people? This isn’t a college seminar blondie.”

Nej shook his head, gesturing to the business casual Mandalorian next to him with a “get a load of this guy” expression.

Matthew's eyes shifted briefly to the Mandalorian standing next to Nej, an amused smile playing at the corner of his lips as he turned back to Nej. "Then I'm sure you understand the importance of knowing what you're walking into before you commit," he said, voice even and composed, though the glimmer of amusement was unmistakable.

He raised an eyebrow, letting the weight of his point hang in the air. "As for bidding or lecturing, well, I suppose it depends on whether you value your credits enough to ask the right questions first. Though I do find it fascinating how many powers manage to amass such wealth while blissfully walking into risky ventures in a galaxy that's already dancing on the edge of a knife."

His eyes shifted again to the Mandalorian, this time with a small, almost playful glint. "But hey, if they're comfortable jumping into something without knowing what they're up against, who am I to stop them?"

Matthew shrugged casually, leaning back slightly. "Honestly, I had hoped to find something worth my time—a viable investment, you know? But it's been far more entertaining to sit back and observe who's eager to throw vast sums of credits at a planet probably worth about... what, 10,000 Underworld Credits? Maybe less." He smiled, the amusement now evident. "I'm genuinely curious to see what grand plans they have for it once they've made their purchase."

His expression softened into something resembling genuine appreciation. "This has been a most informative display, and I owe you my gratitude for hosting such a... lively event." He offered a small nod, clearly enjoying the show.
