Minister post

[member="Jack Sparrow"]

I would humbly request the honor of representing the Republic as minister of foreign affairs, and as my first task I would like to try and establish clearer diplomatic channels with the Silver Sanctum aimed to form an official alliance.

We could always simply assign two or more senator characters to the role. No reason only one individual should be able to act at that capacity, especially since our character numbers and writing demands outnumber our actual writers.

Just form a committee with equal representative capacity to non-Republic entities. Of course, all new alliances should be brought to the rest of the writing and senatorial staff, so we're all apprised of who's making alliances with whom in the name of us all.

[member="Mantic Dorn"] Doesn't that sort of create an unnecessary bureaucracy?

I can't think of any government in which a legislator also holds a prominent executive decisions, parliamentary or otherwise. To be frank, it seems like ministerial positions are being handed out like candy..perhaps we should consider abdicating offices in order to achieve new ones in a permanent capacity? Would any senators like to draft something up like this with me IC? I can help draft and sponsor, but I'll be unable to introduce anything to the floor as I'm not a senator.

Good point. Naturally we need some flexibility on both ways though. Its a hobby community with people coming and going. We cant tie VIP posts up too much but stil be flexible enough for folks to be interested... sorta.

[member="Darion Blackstaff"], i think you can do that without crossing streams with [member="Gael bar Ammon"]. Gael, as ambassador to Mandalore, would you be willing to work with an appointed Minister of Foreign Relations, who would gather your data along with data from other ambassadors? It's important to me that don't feel your position is moot, so if you think this overlaps your role too much I'll table it and find something else interesting for Darion to do.

[member="Alexander Sannes"], I had mentioned offering you the position of Minister of Public Affairs in order to help boost our public perception, provided you came to me and admitted you were wrong in your initial assessment of my character. As this is a role I need to fill, do let me know if you're not interested so I can cast a wider net.

I suggest that this request- this topic of foreign affairs, positions and so on- waits until the Alderaan / Ali Hadrix situations are resolved. Whilst I am all for an alliance with the Silver Sanctum, I believe [member="Jack Sparrow"] and the rest of the Senate, as well as our faction staff, have enough on their plate.

I understand that everyone wants to have fun as soon as possible, but we must show patience.

Ya i know, been avoiding that as Alexander would not do well with internal affairs. Hes better at being out there either with a weapon or words at hand.

Also... Alex has no reason to believe he is wrong about Jack except for my OOC wanting to help the Republic, like always.

OOC and IC man. Alex needs to actually see he is wrong before he can say he is.

I'd be willing to work with whoever, I'm quite eager to work and RP with others. The problem I have though lies with the proposed office's broad jurisdictions and vague applications. The nature of the office in itself is inherently broad and from what I gather, supervisory in nature as well. This creates what I think is a totally unnecessary bureaucracy, as I would then have to report to this minister, the chancellor, and/or Senate.

If I had to propose an alternative, it would be to almost have like a Foreign Relations Committee or something. This could be one senator serving as an ambassador to each faction, collectively forming said committee. Otherwise, just case-by-case work, like sending a senator as a special envoy for said duties, even if only temporarily.

As far as ministers go, I think a definitive list needs to be made. Occupied, vacant, whatever, just have a set number of ministers and who is in that role. I'd personally say these jobs cannot be concurrent with legislative ones (i.e: senators, representatives, etc.)

If you want to PM me, we can collaborate on the best route to go with foreign relations with Mandalore and/or as a whole and go from there and re-present our consensus here. Or we could just discuss here or in a new thread, get that post count up for us both ;) However you want to do it, if you want to do it, my door is always open
