OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: A method for projecting double-blind sensor and visual masking on a remote object.
  • Image Source: "Non-lethal handheld' by Guido Kuip, found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Gr11
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Bard Independent
  • Model: Mercinuur Isolation Projector
  • Affiliation: Closed market (ask first)
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Semi-unique
  • Material: Durasteel, hibridium
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Projects a roughly conical hibridium cloaking field (45 degrees, range 10m; 30 degrees, range 15m; 20 degrees, range 20m).
  • Compatible with a standard photographic/telescopic tripod.
Strengths:
  • Conical cloaking field conceals everything inside from all sensors (except gravimetric sensors like a Crystal Gravfield Trap, which are irrelevant to personal combat).
  • Anything inside the field is in complete darkness and can neither receive nor send transmissions via any normal communications method (e.g. EM radio, subspace radio, hypercomm).
Weaknesses:
  • The field does absolutely nothing to interfere with sound.
  • Certain specialized point-to-point communicators (e.g. Yuuzhan Vong villips, quantum-entangled communications links) are not affected by the field.
  • The field radiates away from the projector in a relatively narrow arc, meaning it cannot be used as a personal cloaking device. I suppose you could cloak part of your body by pointing the Mircinuur at yourself, but then you've got some random limbs floating in midair. It's just plain not a personal cloak in any functional way.
  • The projector has significant power requirements. Either it needs to be hooked to a mobile power pack (think Baze Malbus or an E-WEB), or it will burn through a lightsaber-grade miniature power cell in less than half an hour.
DESCRIPTION
The double-blind property of hibridium cloaking technology has always interested Rel Connory. At times, he's parked hibridium-cloaked ships on top of major transmitters to absolutely prevent them from transmitting. The Mircinuur, or 'cage of silence,' is a specialized hibridium cloaking device that can cloak small areas adjacent to the user. Potential applications include:
  • Creating the appearance of a large pit to delay or confuse enemies;
  • Holding conversations in near-absolute privacy;
  • Hiding prisoner cells from scans;
  • Cloaking contraband;
  • Concealing very small structures, such as a hunter's hide; or
  • In close quarters, preventing an enemy from communicating with allies.

Great looking submission. Essentially a short-range sensor-baffling emitter. Semi-unique, well balanced, and looks really fun to use. Happily approved!

Approved. Pending Factory Mentor Review.
