OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Creating the personal vessel of the infamous Skull Unit of the First Order's Security Bureau. Giving it like it's deadly complement an emphasis on stealth and precision capabilities. Also provides opportunities to engage in fleeting writing from the perspective of a tiny corvette, which would be nice. The inspiration more or less for the stories and role the Misanthrope will take is supposed to be reminiscent of old school submarines.

Strengths:
  • An elusive ghost: The Misanthrope comes equipped with a sophisticated layered passive stealth coating, a comprehensive electronic warfare and countermeasure suite that when used together render it undetectable on any band of the electromagnetic spectrum preventing it from being targeted by sensors or identified by scrambling the sensors, targeting computers and communication systems of targeted vessels, making it necessary to visually identify the small warship and fire at it with 'dumb' weapons if detected and position identified. The downside of such a comprehensive electronic suite is that by using it the Misanthrope alerts the target to the presence of a jamming force, which can often be interpreted accurately as an attack. In this state the Misanthrope maintains its' sub-light maneuverability, speed, can deploy its hardpoints and exercise all defensive capabilities.

  • Advanced Cloaking System: Powered by hibridium the Misanthrope's cloaking system is a thing of monstrous beauty. The Cloaking device renders the Misanthrope completely invisible on every band within the electromagnetic spectrum including visible light, but as it isn't powered by Stygian crystals this comes at a cost. The cloaking device operates on a faraday cage principle, the Misanthrope's hull becoming the cage, this means no electromagnetic signals can penetrate the cloak's effect. As a result, the Misanthrope can't project its' shields outside of the hull, target hostiles with its weapons, use the electronic warfare or electronic countermeasure suites. As it is already cutting edge and a highly effective stealth craft the cloaking device is used sparingly except where risk of visual detection is unacceptably high, such as deploying commando teams on densely populated worlds.
Weaknesses:

  • Fragile: With a small titanium frame flanked by solar panels the Misanthrope is fragile among warships and is vulnerable to damage from fighter-mounted weapons. It is for this purpose it was equipped with such a comprehensive electronic warfare suit and a lengthy transcript of countermeasures in the design. Without shields the Misanthrope is susceptible to hull damage from dumb weapons carried by ships of similar and even of fighter-bomber size, particularly on the vessel's dorsal surface aft of the ship towards the bridge. The solar panels which provide the Misanthrope its' signature speed and propulsion are easily damaged under direct fire and this impairs the ship's ability to exploit it's fighter-esque sub-light speed and agility. In addition if the Misanthrope's hull is breached, the Faraday cage that provides the cloaking effect will be compromised and fail. Revealing the vessel if under the effects of the cloaking device. Making it important to be mindful of space debris such as asteroids or ship hulls.

  • Gravity Wells: Gravity wells created by Interdictor-class vessels under some principle completely disrupt cloaking devices and the Misanthrope is no different. Approaching black holes, gravity wells created by interdictors or any gravitational field of exceptional strength will disable the Misanthrope's cloaking device, forcing it to rely on its stealth coating and E-WAR suite to evade detection. Interdictors are the Misanthrope's bane and the crew are acutely aware of the danger these craft pose to them between gravity wells and tractor beams.

  • Faraday Cage: The Misanthrope while operating with the cloaking device active cannot broadcast any electromagnetic signals, this means it cannot communicate with other entities, activate electronic countermeasures, utilize sensors or keep the deflector shields while cloaked. This is a side-effect of the principles the cloaking device exploits to operate. It also has the consequence of virtually forcing the Misanthrope's crew to not use the cloaking device to raise the deflector shields and protect the sophisticated hull coating from damage when entering or exiting the orbit of planet with a sophisticated layered atmosphere such as most habitable worlds. Opening up the Misanthrope to detection based on the infrared signature of its' powerful Ion engines which in the presence of a potentially hostile force necessitates the use of the E-WAR suite to totally ensure the security of their position at the risk of alerting hostiles to a jamming force. Often forcing the crew to make a slow entry or exit based on propulsion from their solar panels alone. The Faraday cage the cloaking device creates makes engaging the hyperdrive while the cloaking device is active extremely dangerous, in theory the hyperspace field will completely obliterate the ship. This volatility forces the Misanthrope to enter and leave hyperspace with its Hibridium-powered dedicated cloaking device offline.

  • Huge-Power Draw: The Misanthrope's cloaking device draws a massive amount of power, being a highly advanced and miniaturized development of the models first developed by the Galactic Empire. The power levied to the cloaking device comes from the reactor and re-routed from the engines. The result is that the Misanthrope loses its' blistering agility and speed, the majority of the Misanthrope's propulsion in this situation comes from the Ion Engines as the Solar Collectors can't collect photons and electromagnetic energy due to the Cloaking Device's effects.

Description:

Misanthrope%20Bridge%202_zps6mgdfsao.png
The Misanthope's Bridge

The Misanthrope is a prototype anti-fighter and patrol stealth Corvette built on a modified Raider-class Corvette hull by the First Order Corps of Imperial Engineers and crewed by agents from the First Order's Security Bureau recruited from a variety of Military branches and from within the organisation itself. The Misanthrope fulfills a variety roles, including: Interdiction, Patrol, Anti-piracy, VIP transport, Signals Intelligence, Human Intelligence and Clandestine Operations. The Misanthrope is nominally attached to Admiral Carlyle Rausgeber's fleet berthing inside the FIV Malice's Ventral Hanger often operates far away from the Resurgent, operating independently on order from the Fleet's Admiral or the Security Bureau itself.

The Misanthrope isn't a heavily armed warship although it is sufficient for fulfilling its' anti-fighter role and to ensure combat effectiveness against smaller craft has turrets and hardpoints constructed from Titanium and Phrik. However, it is dwarfed by and under-gunned when compared to Heavy Corvettes and indeed Frigates. This doesn't alarm the crew however as the Misanthrope's small size and role often has it avoiding ships of this size and confrontation with heavier ships usually occurs in the re-assuring and malevolent presence of the Malice herself. In the context of a fleet action, the Misanthrope provides long-range covert surveillance and reconnaissance utilizing its' passive stealth systems such as its angular design, two different layers of stealth coating, electronic warfare suite and countermeasures to avoid identification and scramble hostile sensors. The Misanthrope also acts as a screen against fighters and bombers for much larger vessels such as Cruisers, Star Destroyers and Battle-cruisers, where the Corvette relies upon its' durable shields if not hull for protection. The Misanthrope's staggering sensor suite can share data with friendly fire control systems through the CICs on other vessels for devastating effect, such as increasing the accuracy of long-range turbolaser, missile or projectile fire from friendly ships dramatically.

Misanthrope is vulnerable to damage without shields and so they utilize the cloaking device sparingly as it is imperfect and requires sacrificing nearly all defensive and offensive capability. The Cloaking device is normally used when the Misanthrope's orders are of a clandestine nature or when extreme danger is presented by the possibility of their presence being detected. Employment of the cloaking device is often seen when deploying teams of Shadowtroopers upon a densely populated planet before promptly vanishing back into high orbit, or slipping out of system into deep space before executing a hyperspace jump. The Misanthrope's crew numbers just over one-hundred when fully staffed and includes luxury civilian level amenities, leading it to be very popular with the crew aboard her. Rations are served fresh and prepared from the finest ingredients in one of three modestly sized galleys. The crew aboard sleep in tightly-packed together albeit comfortable bunks, the officer commanding aboard is afforded a private and luxurious cabin if modest in size on the deck just below the bridge with an identical cabin dedicated for V.I.P transport. The ships's complement of Shadowtroopers, FOSB Stormtroopers and Field Agents are quartered in a humble barracks with a short and narrow firing range. Prisoners are held in a holding cell located close to the barracks characterized by its featureless stark white walls, tiny vents for circulation of breathable atmosphere for the subject or poison, thick turadium doors and very basic amenities which is typical of harsh Imperial Justice: Bunk, latrine and sink. On the same deck as the barracks and holding cell is an interrogation room which features simulator technology for what the FOSB calls "Enhanced interrogation techniques." Misanthrope's dedicated laboratory is located opposite to the infirmary and is situated one the Corvette's upper deck and is where the vessel's chief scientist performs research and advises the Captain in consultation with the senior medical officer on nuclear, biological and chemical threats. The senior medical officer's daily work includes providing treatment, performing diagnostics, performing surgery and prescribing medication to injured crewmembers or the troop complement.

The Misanthrope forgoes a hanger entirely in exchange for a large cargo bay where it can carry consumables for the ship's three-month endurance in space or any cargo mandated it need deliver as part of an operation. The cargo bay is also home to a small fleet of vehicles intended for use by the ship's complement of Shadowtroopers, Stormtroopers and FOSB Field Agents. The ship's complement of Troopers have access to a smorgasbord of small arms equipment and utility tools designed to give any disembarked commando team all the resources they need to complete an objective. When in Atmosphere Misanthrope loses little of her signature agility or speed capable of travelling at a max speed 1,5000 km/h in an atmospheric environment, combined with an inertial dampening system and adequate gravity panels the Misanthrope is capable of providing close-air support to ground forces albeit putting itself at risk of surface-to-air weapon systems. Misanthrope as a prototype vessel is an assessment of the feasibility for the FOSB to maintain a small fleet of vessels based on the Misanthrope's design, a current barrier to this is cost, the Misanthrope costing as much as a Venator-class Star Destroyer in the time of the Galactic Republic after being adjusted for inflation.

The Misanthrope's crew rotate in three eight-hour shifts, the bridge is designed so that the ship's officer commanding takes up residence in a cramped albeit protected action information centre located in a heavily-armoured compartment with duraplast and durasteel walls and turadium doors positioned beneath the bridge deep within the Corvette's hull in an attempt to protect what is, in essence, the ship's "brain". From the Action information centre, the Captain can relay orders to the ship's pilot who operates the flight controls and co-axial gimballed dual heavy laser cannons and concussion missile launchers. The captain also communicates with the two other bridge crewman: The exoatmospheric combat officer, operating the ship's turreted weapons and a warspace management officer who provides the flight officer with situational awareness and operates the ship's electronic warfare suite and countermeasure systems in combat.

Looks good mostly, just a couple of questions and we'll be good to go.

  • Since you're using a Hibridium cloaking device, you'll need to add these to your Weaknesses.
Though the craft was invisible to other ships' sensors, it could not locate other ships with its own sensors. Another drawback of these devices was that they became unstable when entering hyperspace, often resulting in the destruction of the ships on which they were being used.
  • In conjunction with the above, its E-WAR suite also couldn't be used while the cloaking is active. Please make a note of this in your submission.

In regards to this, I want to remind you of the following, from the Starship template:

Maneuverability Rating: (Choose from: None, Very Low, Low, Average, Moderate, High, Very High, Extreme. How agile is your ship? Can it take tight turns? This is relative to the size of the vessel (e.g. a Corvette with Low Maneuverability will be more agile than a Star Destroyer with a Low rating.
  • The same, obviously, goes for its speed. At the end of the day, this is still a 150 metre long ship. While it may be quick and agile for its class, it won't be able to out-maneuver or out-pace a fighter.

To answer your questions,

I know the Misanthrope isn't going to ever be quite as agile or fast as fighter craft hence the phrase "fighter-like" merely that its' handling and speed characteristics for the pilot or observer are more reminiscent of a fighter than a hulking warship for the craft's pilot or observers, this is reflected in the speed and maneuverability ratings.

The aforementioned weaknesses were present in the Prototype models constructed by the Galactic Empire which in terms of timeline was hundreds of years ago, naturally the cloaking device model on the Misanthrope isn't the same the Galactic Empire constructed and like everything else about the vessel is unique to the Misanthrope.

The Misanthrope's cloaking device is imperfect in the same spirit of the Prototypes, and is responsible for the Misanthrope closing off its' heat sinks to conceal the vessel's infrared emissions and is forced to reduce reactor output to make sure the value for thermal energy is as low as possible, as any heat is going to be trapped inside the ship. This is supposed to be reminiscent of antiquated submerged diesel-electric submarine reducing the revolutions per minute of its screws in an attempt to reduce it's acoustic signature to avoid detection by hydrophones on nearby surface warships. Hence the "Nigh Invisible" quip.

If you're adamant about the Misanthrope having stated weaknesses for the Hyperdrive and sensors, I could state clearly in the weaknesses that while the stealth system is engaged the Misanthrope can't produce enough power from the reactor to charge and initiate the hyperdrive. So it's less of a safety issue and more of a power distribution issue. Likewise I can mention that with the cloaking device being actively powered the Misanthrope cannot generate sufficient power for long-range sensors, only low-power short-range (80-120km).

I don't believe Hibridium device equipped vessels with an active system cannot engage their electronic warfare or countermeasure suite, atleast there is a lack of cited source for this claim? Given how vulnerable the Misanthrope is with the device active I think this would be one of the few ship systems that remain operational to protect a compromised Misanthrope from guided munitions at the very least.

That's not how Hibridium cloaking devices work, though. They specifically cause instabilities when going into hyperspace eith them active. While they do require more power than, say, a stygium cloaking device, this is not the issue that comes into play with hyperspace.

As for the sensors and the E-WAR suite, it's not an issue of power. It's an issue of the Hibridium cloaking device being "double-blind" stealth. While active, it prevents sensors from detecting the ship, while at the same the ship's own sensors (and all other signal-based stuff that can be detected, like E-WAR) can't get out.

Please make the edits as requested.

Ah, reading it again I understand how it functions better now. Looks like it uses the same principles as a Faraday Cage, but instead of just heavily attenuating the incoming and outgoing waves like a pair of earmuffs with sound waves it completely blocks them. Got it, alright well I'll have to re-work the weaknesses and strengths so that makes sense. I'll get it done shortly.

EDIT: [member="Netherworld"], I trust you will find the application now acceptable.
