Well for one is sort of defeats the purpose of the official map. What’s the point in trying to go major if we can all just make our own maps and be minor? That was never my intention but it was discussed in this thread and I can see the point
It could also get confusing since the majors still technically own the territory. A minor faction is not likely vying for control of an entire planet. That’s what a major faction does. For example a spice gang might only own 4 streets or a certain area or downtown. Small areas like that are way better conveyed in words.
Also this only highlights minors taking up territory. But what about the minor factions who are different like business or something? A list better displays the entirety of active minors not just the ones who can operate like majors.
See, I have to argue heavily against your first statement. Not all minors want to be Majors, not all Minors want to blot out the Map Game. This "Minor Map Game" isn't even half the Official Map Game is. Firstly, Roleplay Judges and Admins decide the fate of an Invasion. The Minor Faction equivalent that relies on a community-based map would be a Skirmish, which is reliant on the writers themselves. If neither can come to a conclusion of who wins, well, the map is unaffected. A community-based system relies on the cooperation of the community. Without cooperation, there is no system. Also, I mean, I could hand this file out to anybody and they could handle it, but I would not participate if we let people have more than 3 hexes. 5 at most. This is intended to be "local government" which breeds potential interaction between multiple factions, Minor and Major. An example I gave to a friend was "During a Dominion, a Major could interact with a local minor faction while they build a dreadnought."
If I'm the one that has to manage it, no. Not one faction would take over the entire map. If they want more than three hexes, they can go Major.
Your second paragraph is irrelevant when no one is forced nor obligated to adhere to the Map. My Mandalorian character is currently on a Brynadul planet, even though I've been told the Brynadul commit mass genocide so the cantina would probably never exist. If you've committed rolepay to being the king of a planet, why can't you roleplay the king of a planet? Whether or not you accept Majors being above your head or not. I don't think a staff member would jump in here and tell you that you can't roleplay somewhere unless you adhere to the governing Majors and their rules.
Yes, a spice gang may not control a planet. But the corporation fueling the fire for a few spice gangs might.
A list can be included, a friend of mine offered to write up a list. This territory map probably just shows the biggest influence. Which is why I said if someone wants to contest control (or influence) in a hex, they can. But the community has to come to an agreement, the two people have to realize some sort of duel or fight, or they merge. If they don't, I mean I sorta guess it's first come first serve. But that's where cooperation comes into play. If you're not playing fair along the rules everyone agrees to, you probably shouldn't be part of the system
