It is, there is even special jedi fighter ships.
However, I would guess they belong to the jedi hierarchy, but in the end the Knights should often fall in with the Republic military ranks for various operations, just like jedi on the ground so to speak.

As one of the few senior officers still alive from the initial battles, Beckett received a swift promotion to Vice Admiral in order for him to put his skills to use defending the Republic (See Bio.)

Darn, Vice Admiral looks like a fun rank but my character lacks the experience.

The highest rank I believe he deserves is Commodore since he actually won a space battle while commanding many ships, albeit that's a little bit of an exaggeration.

Captain will due if you feel Commodore is being filled up.
