Strengths:
- Magnetic Field: The magnetic field generated by the interlaced mag-coils is capable of deflecting blaster bolts and even lightsabers, although a precise stab can pierce the field and hit the armor and wearer directly.
- Ceramic Laminate: The hard pieces of the armor are made of ceramic laminate plates, which can disperse kinetic energy not mitigated by the magnetic field. Enough repeated trauma to one area can still prove dangerous to the wearer, however.
- Weight: The composition of the armored plating makes the armor rather heavy, ensuring that only physically powerful individuals can wear the armor without becoming over-encumbered.
- Perpetual Pain: The mag-field causes intense agony in the wearer for as long as it's activated, forcing the wearer to activate it only when faced with an immediate threat or for as long as their pain threshold can manage.
In years past the Sith Lords Carnifex and Prazutis favored overly flamboyant and highly decorative plate armor when going into battle, though there had been brief forays into more smooth and utilitarian designs. With the rise of the New Sith Empire just getting into full swing, and hostilities between the Sith and the Jedi reigniting into full-scale war, there came for a time for functionality to trump overtly gothic iconography and design aesthetic.
The Neo-Imperator armor, as it was coined, took design cues from the Sith armor of ages past, with a robust suit of flexible armor covered by layered ceramic laminate durasteel plates and interwoven with an intricate wirework of mag-coils. These coils, when activated, would create a localized magnetic field around the wearer. This field was capable of deflecting blaster bolts and even blows from a lightsaber, though only by mitigating a swipe into a glancing blow -- the magnetic field could be pierced by a direct and forceful stab with a lightsaber.
However, the magnetic field did little to stop the transfer of kinetic energy to the wearer. The ceramic laminate plates were designed to shoulder that burden, defusing the kinetic energy of projectiles by shattering it into pieces and simultaneously decreasing its penetration potential. Due to the inherent brittle nature of ceramic armor, the laminate plates were reinforced by a layer of thermal gel.
Though the armor afforded the wearer significant defense on the battlefield, it also came at a price. The magnetic field was known to cause crippling agony in whoever wore the armor for as long as the field was engaged, quickly dissipating once deactivated.
